- In this homesteading video, we give our experience raising a LGD in New Hampshire during the wintertime! Leo is our purebred Maremma sheepdog, and he is a full-time outdoor dog. He protects our flock of Katahdin sheep, as well as our barn cats, chickens, ducks, and bunnies. During the NH winters, we often get snow storms, blizzards, freezing temperatures, and snow squalls; but our Maremma puppy is built for the winter weather!

We should keep in mind that snow is a protector against wind and cold. Eskimos know and build igloos. My sister's Newfoundland like it, especially snow storm with two feet of snow on him. In the morning, we had to knock on the door, and he jumps throw the white snow with his black body. He had more problem with his paw after one hour of walk, ice pack was build there. So, need to groom perfectly.

Big silly dogs when they get in the snow they absolutely love it and no, they won’t freeze, and my dog would always play so hard just like this one. I always prayed for it to snow I know that’s a little ridiculous but I did for him lol he was my best friend until drunk driver killed him and almost killed me while I was walking all four of my dogs rest in peace captain
I agree with you. I had a St. Bernard actually a couple of them but the last one him and I were really close and he would love to go out in the snow. I’m in eastern Washington, and when it snowed, he never came in unless we were leaving to go somewhere and then I would just say wanna go for a ride And he would just get up and act all crazy and go for a ride so I prayed for the snow as well especially when it was 117° or 115 here a couple years ago I have my temperature set at 66°I still do that even though he’s gone because I have other dogs like a husky and a few others lol
I just want you to know I have had Saint Bernards, and in the winter time they never want to come in because they are so much happier in the snow. Mine would bury himself and sleep out there would not come in no matter what I did he was 200 pounds and he absolutely loved being in the snow. You can leave them out there and they will never freeze, that’s just them and the dog that you’re talking about in this video dogs like that need to be in some of the coldest weather otherwise they just overheat I have to keep my house at 66 or 64 now with my dogs that I do have, we have a husky and he loves to be outside and he never gets cold. Also a Rottweiler that’s a little different they need to be inside. Excuse me not Rottweiler pitbull
