    Hi everyone! A couple notes. If you want us to get a PO BOX, please comment below. But no perishable food items as we do not eat snack foods. Also, we DO have many healthy options in the US. We do have amazing farmers that are strictly organic in produce & meat. We have lots of options. Sadly lots of people don't really care what is in their food as long as it "tastes good." But we want to make sure you're aware that while this list is compelling there are plenty of healthy, non chemical laden foods here in America. Thanks!

      Well done for sticking up for your country. It's a pity a certain ex-president couldn't have encouraged healthier eating instead of KFC and McD. Remember when the athletes went to the WH and he served them cold McD? Whatever your diet is you're both looking really good on it.

    The major difference between US and EU safety is simple. In the US everything is assumed safe until proven otherwise. In the EU everything has to be proven safe before it can be sold. It does not mean all EU food is safer but EU food has a lot fewer additives compared to US foodstuffs. There many foodstuff in the EU that cannot be sourced in the US at all.

      just like the American justice system, you are guilty until proven otherwise.
      so if someone pointing finger at you, then you are guilty until you can prove otherwise... that's why so much innocent inmates there I guess?

      @@HenSt-gz7qj I can't speak much about the American justice system in specifics, but I do have an English law degree so I'll give it a shot in general terms since the US system is derived from the English one. You are innocent until proven guilty, that doesn't change. However, cases of miscarriages of justice such as false imprisonment is not 100% the fault of the system itself.
      Around one third of the US prison population self-reports as being wrongfully convicted, but the true figure is around 6%. "This estimate masks a considerable degree of conviction-specific variability ranging from a low of 2% in DUI convictions to a high of 40% in rape convictions. Implausible or false innocence claims are estimated to occur in 2% of cases." (Loeffler et al., 2018).
      The reasons for these cases of wrongful conviction also differ from case to case, and from person to person; poor or incomplete evidence, false testimony or mistaken eye-witness reports, mishandling of forensic evidence, taking the blame for someone else, misconduct of criminal justice professionals, etc. None of these assume guilt before innocence, but represents the factors that led to a bias of the jury in favour of guilt.

      It's fundamentally about in America making money is seen as a right, where in Europe it's more of the result of giving a service. That's a generalisation, obviously.

    European goes by a " do not use until deemed safe" standard , the US seems to go more "do not ban until deemed dangerous " 😕.

      Which leads to major issues like poisoned water. When a chemical company realises if it hides its new chemical from the fda they can't ban it. So they dump it like land waste and it poisoned the people near it. And they technically do nothing wrong ad its not banned.

      Somewhat agree - but current UK Gov is becoming far too cosy with FDA 's limits for political rather than health based reasons.
      MHRA is our anchor in these matters.

    I’m a Brit,and having left the eu,my biggest fear is we allow our food standards to go so low as to admit usa food into our country,I love meat but a vegetarian is what I will become

      Not quite correct. French beef is now containing materials which are harmful, yet are allowed by Brussels. I think that you will find by doing an in depth research that UK food standards are far higher than the overall standards set by the EU and there is no way that those standards would be allowed to be eroded. When I was in the US some years ago, I found the taste of many foods to be rather "tingly" if that is the correct word. Would that be because of the amount of various chemicals added to the food ? I was glad to get back home and down the farmers markets for fresh meat, vegetables and fruit. Just an opinion.

    I used to work as a security manager for one of the UK’s larger supermarkets at its abattoirs, considering they slaughtered the animals the standard of animal welfare was unbelievable. Full bedding in all pens if any animals (pigs, sheep and cattle) were held overnight, always a supply of drinking water, toys in the pig pens as pigs are very inquisitive and get easily stressed, full CCTV coverage of the whole process from the cattle in yards all the way to despatch of the final product. We had Food Standards Agency staff on site while in production along with a FSA vet, these government staff could stop production if they spotted anything wrong. All the security staff at the time were employed by the company’s head office and didn’t answer to the site manager, this was because all security staff were qualified in animal welfare as well as holding food hygiene certificates and would monitor via CCTV and report any problems or concerns to the site manager. If the management didn’t take appropriate action over animal welfare concerns raised by the security team they would be brought to my attention and I had the responsibility to report these concerns to the FSA vet.

    Chlorine washing is agreed by all sides that no adverse effects are know about but in Europe it was agreed that allowing it would lead to worst standards of chicken health, as big companies will get away with truly industrialised battery production with chickens living in filth for most of there lives

      Which is also why eggs aren't washed in EU countries, which means eggs don't have to be refridgerated.

      As a general rule. It does vary though. Eggs are washed in Sweden. But not washed in Denmark or Finland, but both countries still require them to be refrigerated as though they were.

      @@sorencyrano1413 I refrigerate my eggs too, but only for consistency when cooking them. Added to that, once eggs are refrigerated they have to me refrigerated after, because refrigeration destroys the cuticle in the same way washing does.

      @@sorencyrano1413 not directly, but cold eggs in fresh air attract the humidity of air, and that water destroys the natural protective coating like washing them.

      Keep it dry and it will last decades, just like it is, without any additives. The key is really that it has to be super dry, anhydrous and stored somewhere below 40C.

    19:10 No, EU regulations no longer apply in Brexit Britain. One of the reasons why large international (American) companies poured that insane amount of money into the "Leave" campaign.

      Not true. Copies of the regulations as they were at the time of Brexit were retained in the UK. Some have been changed since but many have not.

      Yeah that’s not how it worked. All EU directives (laws) at the time we were a member had to be passed in the UK parliament before it became law here. When we left all those laws were still in place as they were British laws passed by our own parliament . There has been some divergence since. leaving the EU did not immediately repeal over 40 years of British statutes and laws in one foul swoop.

    The guy behind the counter used tongs to put them in a bag.
    I commented, "It’s nice to see you don’t handle the food here."
    He replied, "Nothing here is handled by hand, sir."
    "What if you need a pee?" I asked.

    I couldnt believe the size of the chicken tenders/goujons in the US when I went. One tender was about the size of an entire chicken breast in Europe. Its overkill, just pumped full of growth hormones. Then I got fish and chips and they gave me 2 full fish, that would never happen in Europe either. Why do they give such huge portions, its wasteful?

      First time we went to the US, my mum & me were staggered by the portion sizes. No matter how much we ate there was still so much. Also we went to the cinema & had to ask for a child size portion of popcorn. It was still very large. Then there was the problematic side salads. The waiter asked about dressing & acted as if I was insane when I said I didn't want any. I much prefer my nice salad without grease all over it. And why are all potatoes mashed? What's wrong with some lovely boiled ones?

      @@ruthfoley2580 Wise to avoid dressing. 'Vegeable' oils are industrial, chemically extracted frankenstein oils - except palm, coconut and extra virgin olive. See 'The Big Fat Surprise' by Nina Teicholz.

    You might not like him but do you remember when the chef Jamie Oliver went into the schools to look at what the kids were being given for their meals? He took a load of veg into some classrooms to ask the kids what they were. Most couldn't relate a potato to the fries they ate. Not even mashed potato. They'd never seen a real potato.

      You should watch Jamie's attack on McDonalds in the US, and the pink slurry that is used to make the burgers. This is why McDonalds in the UK have been pretty aggressive in their advertising about the quality of their ingredients and where they come from.

      Jamie (good Essex boy) uncovered that we in the UK spend more per head on prison inmate meals than on state school dinners. I agree that inmates should be properly fed, but do we value that over schoolkids? Raise the bar. Healthy food for all please.

    One difference you will find in the EU, is that eggs, in supermarkets are on the shelf, rather than in the chilled section. I only refridgerate eggs if there is a particularly hot summer. By law, US eggs are machine washed to clean off the odd feather or bird poop that might be stuck to them. This removes a natural protective layer from the shell, which is a barrier to bacteria. In the EU, some people wash the eggs before use & most people wash their hands after handling eggs.

    if you want to get even more dissapointed, look at drug prices.
    In Europe drug prices are set by the regulatory bureaus and are in general less than 5% of US drug prices, because in the US, the FDA lets the companies set the price for medication and drugs.
    A month of Insulin costs upfront between 3-20€ (3.48-23.30$), depending on country, with a refund by the health insurance for diabetics in Europe. In the US a month of Insulin costs you 275-500$.
    Similar pricing differences for EVERY drug and medication.
    Also the FDA allows active advertising on prescription medication like opioids and the opioid manufacturers financially pushed doctors to prescribe opioids to their patients for every stupid symptom, building a massive addiction problem.

    I used to live in China about 20 years ago. The food over there was always freshly cooked simple ingredients, nothing like the versions we have here in the west.

      I’ve never been there, but have several friends who have and they told me the same thing, most Chinese food is heathy and the produce fresh.
      One friend was staying with a Chinese family and the mother wanted to make ‘American style hamburgers’ and so asked my friend to teach her. My friend (who is actually Polish) found an American recipe online and told the mother what ingredients she needed. When they got to the amount of beef required the mother replied “but that’s how much beef we usually eat in a month!”. They ended up not having burgers, she taught my friend a Chinese recipe instead.

      Firstly it’s not yet known what caused Covid, and secondly China is a vast country, some areas still have the tradition of wet markets, the Chinese government is working to eradicate them. But thanks for demonstrating your bias, Octavius, maybe you shouldn’t believe all the anti-China propaganda, their food standards are generally higher than those in the USA.

      Whilst that was the case, many people in China no longer trust their food suppliers. Toxins in milk formular, supposedly for babies, selling plastic pellets mixed with tapioca, to bulk it out. The Wikipedia article, food safety incidents in China, will put you off your lunch.

      I wouldn’t lump “the West” into a single category. Mediterranean countries are still very bound to their freshly made foods, and rightly so.

    You should check the ingredients list on US McD fries and UK McD fries. There's quite a difference.

    Unfortunately, in the UK, Brexit means that food safety standards will go down the drain as well. Deregulation is the name of the game and that’s how they sold Brexit to British farmers and now it’s biting them in the bum. The government already signed a deal with Australia that will allow to bring poor quality meat products into the country. It will be cheap and it’s in general bad news for UK farmers.

    18:55 on the EU / UK thing. That's one of the many problems with Brexit now. Yes the UK is out of the EU so they don't need to follow these standards anymore. But if British farmers and food producers want to keep exporting to the EU, they do have to meet these EU standards anyway. So the UK now needs to follow standards of a political union it no longer has any say or vote in...
    And of course the fear of some British people now is that standards will be lowered in the UK to appease the USA in a trade deal, allowing all these "bad" foods and chemicals into the UK. This would lead to a bit of a schizofrenic situation where foods produced in the UK are held to higher standards (so they can be exported to the EU) than the food imported from the USA to the UK. And this might also lead to somewhat of a class division where wealthier people can afford the British produced food held to higher standards, but poor people can only afford cheap imported food from the USA full of chemicals and hormones. Kind of like it is in the USA now...
    This even links to problems with the Irish border between Northern Ireland and Ireland! But I'm not getting into that since my comment would be pages long...

      Yeah, poor British farmers are very disappointed because theoretically they could poison their customers now but that damn EU prevents them from laxing their practices. What a shame indeed!

      I’m hoping the standard will stay on the same quality, with the red tractor too that keeps the standard fairly high. There’s also a new farming scheme that’s meant to improve animal welfare and the environment, also to help farmers too but we’ll have to see how well that actually works out.

      @@lm5730 Yup they are. But are you sure the standards will stay that high when the UK market is flooded with cheap US produced foods after Boris Johnson sold out to get any sort of trade deal with the USA?
      Boris Johnson says a lot of things. All of them lies. None of them true. Just last week: He said before and after brexit, the UK government would be taking over EU funding of local projects in economically weak areas in the UK. Last week he said the UK government was not going to do that after all. So he lied. Surprise. But it got drowned out in the media by the row with France and the EU over fisheries, which Johnson uses as a distraction tactic all the time while he breaks his promises.
      And there's so many, many more examples of him doing this consistently.
      So you bet, if the UK is desperate enough to get a deal with the USA, the USA will take the UK to the cleaners, Johnson will break every promise he ever made, and cheap, low standard food will come flooding in into the UK.
      But we'll just have to wait and see won't we?

    In 2018 my doctor was surprised than I lost weight after traveling to Germany, Austria, and London. Especially with all the “bread, pastries, & sweets” (her words). But than she did say their food is “cleaner” with smaller portions..

      I think the way cities are laid out had influence as well. I have no medical proof for this, but there's proof that even little amount of exercise excretes dopamine, which prevents eating to improve one's mood.
      So… move downtown and go for a walk from time to time.

    Hi Ladies, I'm from the UK. Nice vid by the way. just recently over here, there was to be a export deal with the USA. There was uproar, when as part of the deal, it was found that we would have to except your beef, full of growth hormones, "tenderisers" and god knows what else. Also included in the deal was your chicken. Reared in s/holes, so that it had to be chlorine washed! When I visited the USA a couple of years ago (been many times, through many states and have so many great friends in the USA) I ventured into a super market to find some cheese, (a real passion of mine) all I could find were those horrible pale squares of manufactured "cheese" in plastic. I walked over to what seemed a deli, asked the guy (describing what I needed and was told, we don't sell that kind of cheese! Hope your visit to the UK goes well, have a great time!

      @@TheNatashaDebbieShow I can only agree with the other two people - even if you don’t eat McD at all, it’s a super good video to showcase just HOW much worse the food quality is in the US, and how the consumer isn’t protected.
      It’s not only McD, not only other fast food chains, but the food that you’re consuming from the supermarket - it’s a good case to show an overall problem! :)
      Oh, and they don’t have to list the chlorine on the chicken, since it’s not an ingredient IN it (dumb but true) :-/

      @@Elderglade Interesting that fries in the UK contain potato, cooking oil, and salt. Fries in the USA have a list of additives as long as your arm. The fries in the UK taste fine, not that I eat at McDonalds very often, probably once every two or three years or so when needs must, but it does raise the question why fries in the US have to be blitzed with so many chemicals when ours taste OK with nothing added.

    I'm a Brit living in Spain post Brexit. I only buy fresh produce. The last few times I tried to order snacks, chocolate etc, they were seized at customs. I now live on only todays veg, and meat that was locally reared, and I buy only when its available. Yes, I treat myself to a steak once per week from the supermarket... but other than that? And its much better. Just eat what is in season / fresh.

    I live in Sweden, and I only eat meat from local farmers where they allow their customers to walk/inspect their production and it's been an increasing market. We have our share of problems regarding mistreatment of animals at bigger slaughterhouses, so if I can see the slaughter and create a bond with him or her that makes me feel a bit safer.

    As far as your organic meats and dairy go, check how organic certification is awarded. In the UK organic certification is very strict, no growth hormones are allowed, also antibiotics are very tightly regulated and only used if an animal actually needs it.
    I’m not 100% sure, but from listening to friends who are farmers I think any animal that’s had certain medications then loses it’s organic status. All animals are ear tagged and closely monitored so the farmers know exactly how each animal has been treated.

    Fun fact: Some american bread are considered cake in the EU. The sugar limit for bread is 1,2 (or 1,5) grams pre slice, everything above that is cake. Some american breads contain as much as 6 grams of sugar pre slice.

    I remember a article in the newspaper years ago when I still lived in the uk it was about an American woman who was in Europe on a family vacation and her son had a meltdown when she gave him a packet of M&M and he said it’s not she showed him the packet well anyway he ate them and she put the empty packet in her pocket and thought nothing more about it until they were home and she was doing laundry and got the packet out of the pocket and read the information and compared it to one in the USA and was shocked with the difference and wrote to the company asking about why are these ingredients in the USA m&ms but not in the ones in Europe and the manufacturer more or less replied saying that the is no law that says they can’t put them in

    Might be interesting for you: we can get the foods, but the indregiends had to be adjusted. So what MC or Subway serve here p. e. Is very different in recepie than yours. A lot of us brands are produced in EU for our markets.

    In Finland if you go to the store and buy fish, meat, eggs or any other farm product the packaging has to state which farm did the food come from... Also if you go to the butchers they have these big signs telling e.g. "Todays fish, sander, fished from Saimaa 12th October" and other information so that the consumer can track back the origin of their food if they want to.
    Also I remember coming back to Finland from Belgium there was this big sign on top of one local burger joint advertising their patties are made only from domestically raised pigs / cows, see the farms here. In fact the local dominating burger chain Hesburger triest its best to make more ethical and sustainable food setting goals like carbon food print of their product reduced and over half of the sold food being vegan by 2030.

    I read an article recently about Subway. In the UK it can’t be classed as a sandwich because there is too much sugar in the bread! It is officially classed as cake! 🤯

      True, but it is also a good way of going back into eating like our ancestors did, eat season veggies and fruit, make our own jams and preserves, make our own bread , snacks and cookies ,to not eat meat or fish every day but more vegetables and fruit and soups. It changes our eating habits in a healthier way. And with time and experience also comes a better management of our food and financially it is worth it.

      @@bluezauza Yes, like padding out a chilli with chilli beans uses less meat and is healthier for you. There are so many good recipes out there that anyone could give up meat at least a couple of days a week. That would make a huge difference. After all we're not just carnivores - we're lucky enough to be omnivores so we have choices.

      No wonder. It is normal in Europe that the bread is fresh and doesn't have additional chemicals etc. Just for comparison, your normal bread in Europe will go bad in few days, in USA they can last a month and i kid you not.

    Sugared drinks in the UK are subject to extra tax. Some energy drinks like Red Bull are age restricted due to some young people becoming very ill due to over consumption. Americans coming to the UK are suprised how quickly our bread goes off due to being naturally baked.

      Early on you commented that you want to get started raising your own... Honestly, for meats I would say you should. Unless you specifically know the farmer, these chemicals are a threat. The fact that Britain and the EU both lock out ORGANIC meat farms because of hormones tell me that these are acceptable under the FDA "organic" label. But at the same time, yes it is very hard to have my chickens, rabbits and pigs butchered, and even though it lets me be sure of their lives, not everyone can do that.

    My family taught my siblings and I to eat healthy food really early, my great grandparents were farmers and my grandparents kept their families habits : eating vegetables and fruits only in accordance with the season, always eat in simplicity (almost no processed food) and preferably quality over quantity. It's less cheap but not that expensive and better for your health, I prefer to eat less meat coming directly from the butcher or the local producers store than eating a lot of crappy meat from the supermarket, in France an apple pie from the boulangerie is 12 to 15€ for 8 but if you bake it yourself at home it's about 5 or 6€ for the same quantity.

    I may never eat again!!! It is hard to know WHAT to eat!! I am with Natasha & Debbie---let's all move to a farm & live off the land in the U.K. I have been adding protein to my vegetarian diet since I was diagnosed with cancer but now I second guessing that choice. I am taking lots of vitamins (thanks to Natasha) at a GREAT nutrition store! But want to get better educated about food. Thanks, Natasha & Debbie!!

    One thing worth noting, because our countries in Europe are much smaller, our food travels shorter distances and so need less preservatives. A generalisation of course, but other than foods that can't be produced in our climate, people are much more aware of buying locally and how far food has travelled.

    When Simon talked about salmon he kept saying "fresh water" when he probably meant "wild". Most non-farmed salmon are fished from salt water oceans and not fresh water waterways.

Although salmon can be caught in fresh-water rivers due to their spawning, the salmon sold in stores here is about 50% wild & 50% farmed. The wild is more expensive. Salmon farming is big business in Canada. Aquaculture in the province of British Columbia accounts for 65% of the world's farmed salmon. Those aquaculture operations are located in salt water.

    G'day ladies, just discovering your vids (love the intro too) and wanted to say how refreshing it is to see a different style of 'reaction video' as they're all pretty much the same these days. As an Aussie, I'm happy our food and medical regulations are of a high standard, albeit not perfect. I traveled to the US over 20yrs ago and the biggest difference was the food, even back then, especially in quality and choice. I'm also Coeliac so I have to be very careful about what I eat, but that comes at a price. Unfortunately it costs twice or three times as much, but I have no choice. Money is always the determining factor.

      Actually the nordic countries has ever harder standards than the UK... which gives us hell of a fight with the rest of the EU. In general the northern european countries are alot harder on these things than the south and specially the eastern part of Europe.

    Skittles are now sold in Norway btw and not sure were Simon got his information but plenty stores have Skittles both the sour and the normal versions.
    I think they were banned for a time but then made a comback after Skittles afficinados like myself complained

    The Eu and US have different ways for food additive and such things, the US will use it before aprooved by FDA or Banned for that matter, meanwhile in the EU it won't be used until it's aprooved by the EU.

    Over here in the UK, when we have organic or free range, it usually means nothing has been tampered with, pigs get to do what pigs do, and chickens get to run around and scratch for food, but they also get feed natural food stuff, also a lot of people have allotments, and we grow a lot of our own fruit and veg, fertilized with only poo.

    I've never got that 'relatively safe' thing either - crossing a busy road can be 'relatively safe,' but you're still supposed to be careful, so you don't get hit by a chuffin' car!
    The farmed salmon thing does take us Europeans by surprise as well, when we visit the US. We're used to our salmon being a sort of dull coral pink, so when we see something that looks like it got a PowerPuff Girls Makeover, we're like "Whoaaa, what the heck is this?" But you are right - it IS possible to find healthy foods in the US as well. You just have to be prepared to hunt for it, read labels properly and maybe go a bit further out of your way to shop at the places where they sell it. (Of course I'm speaking from the perspective of a Brit who's been to the US quite a few times in the past, and is used to doing that at home as well.)

    I'm British and if I can get meat and other produce from local farm shops... That's honestly probably the best thing to do. As you can directly ask the farmers what stuff they use, see how the animals are treated etc.
    Not all farms do this, but it's worth checking!
    I would rather support local farms and their shops instead of going to the supermarket, because that supermarket stuff is designed to live a long life... Which means God knows what goes into them.
    I genuinely find your takes on the food and health differences between the UK and US very interesting! I'd honestly love more videos like this

    Just picked up your comment on Chinese food, it´s the MSG they ad to the food in the kitchen, my wife had the same reaction, the estimate is 5% of all population´s suffer in the same way, when you order your food just ask them not to ad it,
    many foods you buy in the supermarket have it, it does have an E number, a quick search will give you more info, Enjoying tour content.

    You need to check on what you feed your dogs too as dog food has to be suitable for human consumption which doesn’t seem to mean anything in the U.S. I think the only way is to cook from scratch and all organic and free range.

      Vicky, your right. I worked at pedigree petfoods at Melton Mowbray U.K. where they made Whiskers and Pedigree chum. People (samplers) came out of the laboratories every few hours and take samples off the production lines and taste them themselves. NO, I wasn't tempted myself. 👍

    Good video, obviously in reverse there are a lot of products that aren't allowed in the US from the EU or UK often listed as food safety. I think one of the more interesting one would be eggs, and the most amusing kinder eggs although I think they might now be allowed in the US :)

      The egg thing is related to how the EU/UK processes eggs compared to the US. It’s not because EU/UK eggs are less safe, its to do with the fact they aren’t washed. But the reason they aren’t washed is because they don’t need to be as farming practices mean they aren’t covered in chicken poop.
      As for Kinder Eggs, they used to be banned in the USA, but the ban was lifted a while ago now.

    In the US is the term "Organic" a regulated term? It is in the UK and producers have to conform to set standards before they can use the term, other common terms like "traditional", "Farmhouse" etc are not regulated and are meaningless here

    The best example is Mc Donalds because in Germany they usually have a problem with the highest food control, the purity law! But Americans notice that when they eat at Mc Donalds in Germany, it tastes better, you can really taste the purity of the products. There would be an uprising of the citizens against Mc Donalds if they would sell the same shit as in America here in Germany. Yes, then Mc Donalds would disappear just as quickly as Walmarkt because of poor quality and attack on the body of an EU citizen!

    The eu is the European Union, its made up of several European countries. Brexit removed us from the union but most of the laws will continue over , I’m sure food laws will be one of them as this is very important to the people of the uk, I remember seeing scandals on imported chlorinated chicken , done sneakily , and water injected chicken to make it look bigger.

    In many cities around the world the tap water is chlorinated due to outdated plumbing, with who knows what germs living in them. In soviet era Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, the tap water was so heavily chlorinated, it tasted like drinking from a swimming pool. The recipe had to be something like: "Take some water. Add chlorine to taste"

    There are alternatives, British Smarties (for example) have red smarties, but our sweets are natural colours, flavours and no MSG or HFCS...
    If 70% of people buy food produce without thinking what it is, they really don't care about the vegitarians, vegans, fruitarians and fitness freaks who do care... Its simple economics, why improve their product at great expense to cater for a minority that may not like or eat it even if they do? You can see their point-of-view, even if you don't agree with it, that's why theres a specialist market for those niche suppliers of speciality goods.
    Have you thought about reviewing old pre WWII films American and British? If not, how about pre-1970's?

    One of the concerns we face in Scotland at the moment is the fear that our food standards will be reduced to the level of US standards to facilitate a trade deal. Free market capitalism makes profit far more important than the health of the consumer. Wouldn't it be nice to live a society organised for the benefit of communities rather than corporate profit.

      Because we're in a capitalist society, we can demand the kind of good we want to eat, and create our own companies which mirror our ideals. Because our government has low standards, it means we can't trust them.

      @@amysanchez3699 Much of your issues in the US is that you demonized socialism as if its the boogyman despite using socialist enterprise to organise some of the most important aspecs of communities. Like power networks, the police, the fire service and schooling. This is compounded by the US move to global imperial fascist financial control.

    when the UK was busy disentangling from the EU people were worried that we opened ourselves up to US food standards and kept these bans

    The UK has even stricter food regulations than the EU. This is also the case for some EU countries, as the EU regulations are just the minimum baseline. :)

    You can find many American food brands here in Europe, but what they sell almost always come from their local European factories, made from local agricultural products, in order to meet the EU's food standards and local tastes. This is why Americans who visit Europe find that the same products, same packaging, don't taste the same on both sides of the Atlantic; the taste can even be different from one country to the other.

    Hi there, new sub from Hertfordshire, uk. Just to say that a little while ago, say about two years ago, it turns out that some of our beef wasn't beef, it was horsemeat, which was a shock to everyone. So uk has its shady side also.

      We had the same in Germany too, but it was always in processed food, like frozen Lasagna. Basically, there is nothing wrong with horse meat, as long as it is declared correctly. In the Rhineland area of Germany (around Cologne) the sour roast was traditionally made from horse meat, but nowadays it's mainly made from beef.

    Loved the new intro, your channel is definitely moving up a gear and becoming more professional with each episode, nice work 👍🏻 And as for the food topic, years ago a lot of this stuff mentioned on the video was simply called POISON or TOXIC ☠️ I guess food manufacturers and the bodies watching over them use chemical and scientific terminology to deliberately confuse us to what is safe or not. Let’s be honest even the most educated cannot say these words let alone understand what they are. I guess if you can afford it buy natural produce and if you can’t hope one day the USA follows the example set by the EU.

    Folk from the US living in the UK often comment about bread, fruit and veg going bad quickly. That’s because they aren’t treated with preservatives and are have to be eaten whilst still fresh. Also Eggs here aren’t kept chilled whereas in the US they have to be refrigerated because they are washed. The wash removes the natural protective coating on the egg. Birds don’t refrigerate and wash their eggs!

      We get eggs from friends who raise chickens. We typically don't buy them from the stores.

    If you're making a vegetable curry and the sauce is a bit runny then sprinkle of instant mashed potato can thicken and improve the texture.

    Oh - and if you're looking for suggestions and you're doing cooking I'd be interested to see some traditional American food that you would not expect to find elsewhere, perhaps even outside of your State never mind internationally.
