This may sound weird, but your videos are relaxing and calming. Thank you.
Nothing like being out there for hours listening to the pitter patter of rain on your rain gear and the ting tang on your hard hat. I never liked plastic hard hats and I spent most of my time in the riggin. If it was sitting in the rocking chair (unemployment) or jump on the cutting crew I would jump on the cutting crew. Thanks for the video and keep having fun..
Hey young man, Larry. Thank you for teaching us how to pronounce your name. It’s the ne that changes it. I’m 73 and don’t get around a lot any more. I truly love watching you fell these big trees. You are such a skilled tradesman! Be careful, a paycheck is not worth your health!
Thanks for watching Larry
Man, these videos are friggin awesome!
How many people get to work that hard banging wedges and then turn around and say, “Man, that was fun.”
Good gig. Dangerous. But fun!
Thanks Bjarne, nice episode. Bucking can be more interesting than falling sometimes 😉
Sure can🤙
I'd help, but I'm eating oatmeal right now. It's nice and warm here by the wood stove.
Very impressive...👍
They both laid out nicely Bjarne 👍👍
I would usually tape my way out and buck my way back but otherwise spot on brother ✊ Very cool movie 🎥 today 🔥
Thanks Bjarné, once upon a time you have to make a Q&A
Good idea
7:42 Damn, that's one smart undercut Bjarne. 29:41 yeah pucker time can be anytime aye...Just when yah think the weather can't get worse the rain/sleet starts howling down sideways. Chur for the swish reel.
As a flatlander I always hated cutting in the rain everything wet slippery slimy would rather cut in the snow myself.
Agree…and I’d rather work in the cold, dry snow of mid-winter than then wet, soaking snow of November and December!
Beautiful look 👀 fir BJarne, excellent timber to work with buddy . 😊
That was a nice damn tree there. Beautiful undercut, too.
Way kool. Be well.
Love does Doug fir
LOOKS COLD!
Nice Douglas fir
Wow 😮
Hey young man, do your corks last very long? The reason I ask is because they are not true tool steel. I am a retired Tool&Die maker and I know steel like you know wood. If they were heat treated tool steel they would last forever and you could sharpen the point more. Just a thought.
Interesting. They’re probably not, if they lasted a long time then they wouldn’t sell as many.
As long as an avoid walking on rocks then they usually last a while. Maybe 2 months at most. Also depends on how steep the ground is. I’ll sometimes replace the corks early if the ground is very steep.
Sounds like you are near the Comox/Tofino air base with jets going overhead?
I’ve never seen Bjarne immediately set three single wedges like that. Musta been worried about the wind catching that big barrel.
Do you sharpen your own saws? That ax looks like it's special made. Do you have a piece of steel welded on the back of it?
Hit the 👍!!
👋🏻
I love working in this type of weather. Keep the chips flying B. You're doing awesome. Are those class 1 or 2 pants?
Dunno about the class. They’re Gladiators by Phanner
Is it the rainy season there, it seems cold when cutting down trees
Vancouver Island gets alot of rain so u get used to it real fast.
im from the lower mainland, so i speak from experience, lol i got used to wearing a rainjack fairy quickly. or you have a good dryer at home because it will be used a lot
I'm far away
Bjarne, what axe do you use and is there an equivalent on the European market? Thanks
best guesstimate 4 1/2lb Council Tools with a piece of 1/4" flat steel welded on the pole with a belt hanger added and the handle wacked off at his preferred length maybe 26-28" so semi customized.
Might try researching this Council tool and check its availability, 5 lbs. Fallers SB Axe; 28 in. Straight Wooden Handle
SKU: 50DR28S
😂😂😂 comment of the day.
felling ?
Imagine that limb hittin a man…
What a gross day for May .... just plain miserable.
There was never a time when even making good coin would be worth it on days like those.
Don't miss that part of the job .. ... at all.
Ya the miserable days sure are miserable. Beats sitting in traffic on my way to an office and having to deal with coworker drama and office politics. All I gotta do is dress warm and have a good lunch and a saw that cuts straight 😁
@@BjarneButler Heard that. After a 16 yr "stint" in the woods with little more than miserable weather causing grief, I became an Owner/Op for Loomis Courier in Victoria. It was quite the reality check.
Didn't take long to conclude miserable humans cause far more grief.
That's a massive furu Bjarne, isn't many of those in Norway
The thin wedges have less lift so it’s a compromise… Lift over ease of hitting.
Correct. The thin wedges don’t lift as high so you may need to double them up. 🤙
😊
Curious me ... what is the weight of your HuskyPowerHead/bar combo??? The big fir you dropped you hoisted the saw way over your head to finish the cut ... made it look easy
rough guess 16.5lbs powerhead, 5lbs 36" bar and chain, quart of fuel, pint of oil= 23-24lbs
As my dad told me many years ago, “You walk around with a saw all day, you get big arms!”
