12:15 history should teach us people want the longer unbound version of any Snyder movie. But the situation has an easy answer: Netflix has a double punch with 2 versions… I know I will watch both.
I think the directors cut is just netflix way of trying to milk it and get more subscribers.. Its like when you buy a video game and then you can purchase downloadable content to make the game better. They used to do that with DVDs where you'll get a directors cut, deleted scenes, alternate endings,etc
How many more subs do you think they would’ve thought they would get exactly? I’d love for you to clarify
Being as it’s nearly Xmas, I completely understand them doing it being as many families can watch it over Xmas, it’s makes complete sense
Also, for them to get this cut they agreed that Snyder can do whatever he wants, nothing is off the table
So, people being annoyed at this online is actually minuscule, most people are not online and do not care about this nonsense

knowing how snyder work goes his directors cut is always the better version and fully realized i dont know why netflix wants to have two versions of each movies unless u was gonna do a theater release for the pg 13 versions. im excited to see it but if both dropped at the same time i would go straight to watching the r rated 3hr version.
Because more versions = more views = more money. Duh.
Funny how Snyder is just an innocent bystander in all these situations to his fans even if he has 100% control like he does now. Maybe Zack just isn’t very good at creating a coherent story?? His screen plays are historically bad and you can’t really have a good movie without a good screenplay regardless of how it “looks”.

Self proclaimed critics are biased as hell, I like synder, with exception to sucker punch that was freaking awful and I have to say that.
I’m watching this Friday, but I will watch the extended cut in February when it releases.
I dont understand why netflix decided to release a lesser cut just to release a director cut afterwards.

I don’t mind the old stories being retold, but I would love scifi stories where the weird world rules remain and the characters have to deal with how life is… but there is always a revolution to change what makes the world unique and interesting: maze runner only has a maze the first time, hunger games ignites a fight to end the very Hunger games, Altered carbon S2 has a revolution to end with the sleeves, etc.
Sean, I have to agree with you on this one just about point for point. Telling an old story a new way can be fresh and exciting, but telling an old story the same way is just boring. I was intrigued enough visually to stick with it, but I don't know if even that is enough to make it rewatchable. And while the imagery is very striking and cinematic upon first viewing, there's not a lot there to take away from later on. No Millennium Falcons or X-Wings that kids will buy toy reproductions of in droves or, as you said, Han Solo-like characters that stay with you in thought as you leave the theater and head out to dinner.
We'll have to see just how much the Director's Cut improves it. I almost wonder if Zack suffers from similar issues that George Lucas has, but with storyline instead of dialogue (although, arguably, his dialogue in this isn't great either). No one can argue that both Lucas and Snyder are fantastic visual and technical directors, but I'm guessing that like Lucas with Empire Strikes Back, Snyder would be at his best when someone else is handling the story-to-screenplay writing responsibilities. I will say he seems to at least be better with directing actors than George.
And yeah, this whole situation with Netflix telling Snyder up front to make two versions is really odd. It's almost like he's conducting some sort of social-cinema experiment, which I'd buy into if he hadn't already done basically the same thing with previous movies.

How long the dirctor's cut version?? How diffent is it?
It's not that they're making a theater-friendly version. They're making a version that can be seen by a wider age range where they can market games, clothing, etc. Not saying I agree with their decision.
Problem with releasing director's cut of Part 1 before PG-13 Part 2 is that more people will know the difference and just wait for director's cut of Part 2. Netflix has backed themselves into a corner if this plan doesn't work out.
It's Netflix -- kids watch what they want on streaming. Parents aren't bothered by the ratings of NETFLIX'S movies. And Rebel Moon is only in theaters a week. They could have released a R rated version
Hello mate, I actually agree with you. I really liked everything in this movie, it just felt like there was a LOT left out. The 'Part I' element also did feel like half a movie, as opposed to something like Star Wars Episode III which can exist on its own
I suspect the part I and part II directors cut 'ULTIMATE EDITION' will be a great package - just unfortunate that the decision was made to release the all too familiar 'cut down studio version' - first
I'm not going to watch it again until the grown up version appears - so hopefully it is sooner rather than later!
I found it somewhat ironic that Zack's biggest strength, the ability to introduce powerful characters so wonderfully and at a pace that feels nourishing to the soul (Watchmen and Zack Snyder's Justice League) - as opposed to being rushed through various set pieces like most modern movies, is the very thing that was missing here

As a Snyder fan, huge props to you sean for delivering an actual review of the movie you saw by talking about its actual positives and negatives and going in depth with them. You let it be known that yes, you didn't enjoy the movie all that much and gave actual genuine criticisms on why you didn't, and i respect that. Far to many critics review a snyder movie and you can tell by reading it that theyve been influenced by their dislike for snyder or dislike for his fans(who can be a bit harsh) and it ends up not even being about the film itself.

Hey Sean, So why do I want to watch this part 1 of Snyders Rebel Moon if there's a better R rated longer version coming. My guess is by doing this NetFlix is hoping to start Snyder cut fan buzz for this movie like the one for ZSJL and drive more subs for their service. Also if there's a directors cut for part 1 of Rebel Moon will they're be one for part 2 as well. In the end I think this is a bad strategy by NetFlix that will blow up in their face. Your thoughts.🎬
Well your wrong cause the 3 hr -R Rated version was announced like 7 months ago and it will not be a Snyder Cut scenario. Netflix asked Zack to do a PG-13 watered down version 🤦🏽♂️ and again these are called by studios not the Director himself and it will be released at the end of January cause Part 2 comes out in April 2024. Now I'm pissed that Netflix would do something so stupid and backwards by showing the inferior version in theaters and it was only going to have a 3 day run. I believe Netflix is going to try and sell the real version on Physical Media and Digital

I just love Snyder's style, casting and vision so much, that all of your legitimate critisism fades for me while watching the movie. My 2 cents.
The problem is it's not visually stunning. It has poor CG and blurry cinematography. We are leading with an inferior version because that's all Zack Snyder has. He's a hack. He promises a director's cut because he knows the film he is paid to make is going to suck. So he'll try to fix the criticisms and fail with the director's cut.

I seen it Tuesday night in the theater. I really liked it but felt it need more characters development to help a few things hit. I am frustrated hearing about the other cut. I agree just give us the best version.

Netflix undermined their own product from the beginning is such a Netflix thing to do. This other cut has been attached to it from the beginning. Hell, it was even promoted along side this chopped up shit sandwich Netflix decided to put out first. Baffles me they didn’t put out his version.

From what I understand an extended length isn't the important reason for a directors cut, but the rating. The current version is PG-13 and the "Snyder" cut will be rated R.
I like your review. But I will push back a little. To me from what I gather from many reviews. Not everyone has the attention span to take in a 3 to 4 hour version of a film in one going. Lord of the rings extended versions. It is hard to do in one sitting. I like the movies. I do agree that they should have had both versions of rebel moon. Or have one version split into sections like zsjl, and then a full version straight through. I think when they look at the feedback. They will release the longer version in a week. They will see the constructive feedback. Your legitimate complaint is the complaint of others as well. You said this pg-13 version is sometimes what people want as well. Star Wars is only pg or pg-13 because there is no blood. Episode 3 barely got that pg-13 rating. But those same pg-13 parents will let their kids watch things like the walking dead, or vampire diary’s. So it is up to the parents to decide if something is really bad. Some of Jim Hensons older work is definitely not pg. there are some adult themes. The never ending story 1. We are all still carrying scars from that film.
3 things are guaranteed in life; death, taxes & a Zack Snyder joint having good production values but the story/dialogue/characters being comparatively underdeveloped & underwhelming. No doubt his diehards are complaining about Critics/RT even though some of them/their publications gave Army of the Dead & his JL Cut a fresh rating! There's clearly a non-nefarious reason why Rebel Moon's currently @24% (3.8/10) with 18 fresh reviews out of 74 & only has a 72% Audience Score (3.8/5) from his most dedicated fans! Metacritic has it @32/100 with a 6.1/10 Audience Score. It's also interesting how his diehards are able to influence the audience scores on sites like IMDB with an unnaturally high number of 10/10 scores (predominantly from Brazil & India as per the breakdown), but still can't get it over 7/10 for its overall IMDB rating with its current 6.3/10 rating. Also, if you keep needing a 'Director's Cut' (at least 3 now) to make your movies better/more coherent, then the problem just might be with you!
It was review bombed in the extreme negatives by snyder haters just as much as it was review bombed in the posmsotive by his fans. So it cancels out

Here we go again 🙄 the usual Snyder related BS. I thought him moving on from DC to allegedly artistic freedom over at Netflix, things would change. That doesn’t seem to be the case. I was looking forward to see this (loved 300, Watchman, BvS ‘extended cut’ and the Snyder cut of JL) Not so much anymore.
I’ll catch it sometime down the line I suppose, but there’s no rush. As you said, he should have put his best foot forward first, so to speak. No more mysterious, superior directors cut that we might get at some unknown future date. That doesn’t seem to be happening for “reasons” as in Netflix itself apparently. Don’t particularly care anymore 😒

Why not just release the R rated snyder cut first? It's probably WAY better than the one we got.
You always want to put your best footing out the first time. This is frustrating. On the flip side, why doesn’t he get a great writer to pen an amazing story? After all, filmmaking is a collaborative effort. I heard he was also the camera man, DP and Producer. This is too much for one person. Christopher Nolen or Ben Affleck would work with Department heads to make their movies great.
This review is not encouraging at all. I will wait for the Director’s cut.

Me as a BIG Zack Snyder Fan have to admit I didn't like this one very much, I think mostly it's the script and dialog 😔
I have a theory why they went with this release strategy. Hear me out.
Basically, Netflix wanted a tent-pole Christmas release. And since it's Christmas, they wanted a sanitized version that was family friendly. For them, at the end of the day, it's all about those eyeballs.
So they probably pressured Snyder - or made it part of the deal upfront - that he had to deliver something that was Christmas-ready; and this is the compromise they arrived at.
I'd bet anything this was the scenario.
And, lastly, just to address the concern you had about this possibly tainting the sequel and any subsequent director's cut versions: Netflix don't care - they don't care because they don't think it matters. They know that general audiences will tune in to this one out of sheer curiosity - which is all they want for this Christmas season - and the die-hard Snyder fans will watch whatever comes out later anyway.
I read something similar on Twitter and I tend to agree. Doesn't make it less puzzling for me tho. Hopefully they release the "Snyder Cut" (and I'm willing to bet they will dub it that way) soon because if Zack says it feels like an entirely different movie, I'm inclined to believe him.

I give 3 stars out of 5. It seems like Rogue One with a female protagonist and an Asian swords-woman with laser swords. I wish it can just be male for all major characters. While not Woke, definitely diversity of casting with a Native American style character with language that sounds like it. A Kylo Ren type enemy. A spider alien creature. The difference is the environment building seems unrushed compared to Rise of Skywalker that went from place to place as quickly as possible. There’s many differences to Star Wars especially the unique interrogation crane. Mounting a resistance seems like suicide. They should evacuate. Ewok village in a farm.

Ripoff Moon-A dumpster fire. A copy and paste derivative fest😂. Netflix is pulling a Snyderverse gimmick ala Justice League by teasing a extended a extended mature cut to drum up more anticipation from his cult followers 😂. Snyder is a visual music video style rapid fire edit director who couldn't write decent dialog to save his backside. Too much slo mo even when there's no action activity makes a 90 minute film extended to a 2plus hour slogfest. A rinse and repeat is right on!😂

I liked it. Fresh of breath air to watch a movie where I don't have to worry about whether he broke lore or not, the film's entertaining and fun.
I really want to see Snyder direct scripts rather write his own. He just can’t. No one talks about Gahoole but that, Dawn of the Dead and Watchmen imo work orders of magnitude better just by being written by someone else. There was so much effort put into this film and it just sucks. It’s incredible how much craftsmanship goes into essentially a 2 hour hard shart.
Visually stunning, with incomplete stories that need director cuts will be his legacy!
AND the director cuts were notoriously of higher quality. His legacy will be interesting imo. Despite what anti-snyder folks will say, he's very accomplished, and good or bad, has had an impact on pop culture.

I wish he'd let other people help write his stories with him. His strengths are in visualization and conception, not writing lol. Someone already made "The Seven Samurai" in space. It's called "Battle Beyond the Stars" That makes "Rebel Moon" a ripoff of a ripoff.
So overall it's a SHITTY movie
The main problem with such films is the assumption that civilizations in other parts of the universe are developing according to the patterns of earthly history. With "empires", "dictatorships", "democracies", including the style of clothing characteristic of these societies. But military men in German-Soviet uniforms from a distant planet are even more cretinous than horned humanoid aliens. And who challenges them in this film? A girl with the weight of a lamb and the appearance of a schoolgirl (ex-elite soldier, "veteran"!🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️), who will not be sold cigarettes either in Europe or in the USA. Sorry, but this all looks like banal money laundering at a freak show, not art.
That is a kind of SciFi or fantasy story where the fantastic and scifi elements are more like a skin to what it is actually a very human/real world story… which is ok. But I would love some scifi movies that are sooo weird because the elements and characters being so alien. That would be interesting.
Star Treck, Warhammer, Star Wars, Fire Fly, Marvel, DC and many more with same trend must've really irritated you huh?
