I watch a lot of watch channels and this is my first time watching one of your episodes. Absolutely loved it. Informative , funny, educational, brilliantly edited and loved the outtakes. You've got a new subscriber in me!
Just for reference the "Arrow" seen on all of the brit watches is actually known as a "Crows Foot" and it is the standard marker for all government ordinance hence should only be seen on items actually adopted and issued by the MOD.
still loving my m100 Rich! Laying this watch next to my other watches the brushed finish is no joke. Like you said, the pics and video do not do this watch justice, its very luxurious looking compared to my other pieces. This is definitely a no bullshit field watch that you can dress up too, very versatile. Very happy to be able to own it for sure, thanks again for the code bro
Hi, Andrew. That’s great to hear. I know exactly what you mean. Whether it’s on the new steel bracelet or strap, it looks awesome. It’s the kind of watch we never get tired of. Enjoy! 🍻
I've an original 24ct Vertex/Dreadnought piece that I inherited from my Grandfather and was presented to him by Unilever for good service. Lovely watch
Your videos are so entertaining and well researched! I love all the animations and jingles. You’re really gifted at video editing! It makes a 10-plus video on watches feel like it’s only five-minute long. The jingle at 4:11 is for me your signature jingle!! Keep up the good work, and I can’t wait for you “to be back at it again!” 😀
Hey Rich: Great video about this Vertex. I appreciate you bringing this brand to our attention. Lots of military watches don't get the love they should. This Vertex looks really good. I'm going to keep my eye on this brand. Thanks, Gary
Well done Captain Rich🙏🏻🙏🏻 Great watch, the sunburst small second dial looks great and not too big and with 10mm easy to wear. Lume looks great as well. Love you background stories there. Cheers from Germany, as usual well done 👍🏻
I don't feel the need for a modern copy of a classic vintage wristwatch as I have my late father's 1944 Vertex, yes it's one of the Dirty Dozen, still working perfectly and keeping excellent time because it's been used but well looked after. It now sports a NATO strap because the original gave up the ghost after the many years of use and I recently took it to a local jewellers to have it serviced but he wasn't interested in doing it, he did want to buy it though but I told him it's not for sale at any price, it'll be passed on to my grandson when I go because he loves it and appreciates it's history.
Nice watch I think this is by invitation only. Part of the appeal for vintage watches is that those specimens are more handcrafted using older techniques. From around 1930 to 1960 maybe mid 1970s would be the sweet spot. With reissues it's nice to get it in modern sizing, materials etc i can see the appeal.
A very beautiful looking military watch, I was all into it and considered buying it until you mentioned the price... Sadly, for me at least, it is too far away from my comfort zone 😅😅
Whatsonthewrist, epic intro bro. I’ve heard of Vertex but r u sure it’s 40mm because it looks like 38 or 49? I think we have the same size wrist. Anyway it fits u great. I’d personally go with NATO because rubber is usually hard until u break it in. I was leaning toward a new seamaster until now. Thought vertex was always priced to high until u put it into context with the Speedy. But it still might be high. Great info and nicely presented as usual. U give us to many choices. Keep them coming.
Hi, Stephen! Yes, it's 40mm and thank you! I know what you mean regarding stiff silicone straps, however Vertex's does not require a breaking in period. It's soft and comfy out of the box. I put it on the same quality level as Everest. Interesting conundrum you have with the Seamaster. Let me know what you decide. Thanks again! ✌️😱
Whatsonthewrist, my brother in law just watched this video and in his words “WOW NOW THIS IS A VIDEO. “ I agree. I think u just gained a new watch enthusiast and fan.
I just heard $3,200 for a watch with an Eta Peseus manual wind movement. And you just said it is price accordingly...btw you can get the speedy for a little more than this Vertex, at an AD, if you cared to ask for a discount.
Hi, Hong! Yes, in my opinion it is not priced outrageously for a little guy making a Swiss watch. The parallels between the Speedmaster and the M100 is its genuine history. 👌😁
@@whatsonthewrist uhhhh...no it is not priced accordingly. It is waaaaay overpriced. It is a $1000 watch to be sure. I doubt the box is worth the $2,200.
Hi, Effin4! Great point, it's even a bit more exclusive. Don, the owner, of Vertex gives that special customer service touch that means a lot. Thanks man. 👌😁
“You had me at Panerai” lol. Hey Rich, Interesting review on the Vertex MOD watch. In many ways the old military watches set the stage for the Tool/Sports watch craze in terms of style and functional durability. I was an avid collector for the old British Broad Arrow watches back in the day. You could pick them up for relatively cheap in the 80s, 90s. But when the military watch collecting craze really hit in the 2000s I sold them all, like an idiot. I had many by big name watch companies like Lemania, Omega, CWC etc. but the pinnacle of the old British MOD watches was and still is the Rolex 5517 milsub, with all the appropriate markings.
Hi, evan! Yikes to having to selling those brands. Oh, man. But we couldn't have forecasted the future. Nice choice for the 5517. Thanks, evan for sharing your experiences and for enjoying the show. ☕️😁
Whatsonthewrist your videos are like watching a mini movie-so entertaining and informative. I find myself liking a watch more then I would without seeing your video. The Vertex is very cool. I don’t know about those pins to change straps, are they secure enough? I’m also looking forward to the grand sons future watches. I also support family business. Cheers.
Hi, Tom! Well, the goal is to introduce watch enthusiasts to great watches and brands, so your comment pleases me. I haven't found any issues with the self-changing strap system. It's actually very convenient. I am, also, looking forward to Don's future watches. Thanks very much for the heavy words. 🤛😁
Rich, wow great video....nice opening. The watch is beautiful. I appreciate the information you provided as always. BTW do you ever do meet and greet events with followers? I would love to attend a whatsonthewrist watch gathering some day.
The Vertex M100 is a beautiful British military watch. the recommendation requirement to buy the watch makes it exclusive. Other watch company like Rolex made watches for the military of Oman or Qatar. Panerai made watches for the Italian navy and Invicta made watches for the Russian navy.
Hi, Andreas! I think many people are glad with the size instead of 44mm. Who knows, they could make a different size as an option with their next models. Stay tuned...👌😁
I love everything but the sub dial. Would have left it out myself. Personally I've just never cared for unnecessary complications cluttering up a dial. What in my life am I going to need to time in seconds that that little tiny second hand will be much help with?
Hi, Land Scapes! You're funny, subidal may not be for everyone. To me, it reminds me of the old pocket watches and it's also staying true to the original 1944 edition. BTW, I'm sure by now your Helmsman has formed its nice patina. ☕️🤛
Hi, Rhino Watches! I will look into that right now and get back to you. You can email me at whatsonthewrist@gmail.com. I'll email you back with the code.
No nevermind ! I just heard about the price ? $3200 ! I’ll just go for a Speedmaster ! No disrespect but this Vertex M100 at most is $800! Not any better then Hamilton

I understand about the mix bag of people who like and not so much the referral thing. I believe Vertex was trying to keep the limited number of watches within the like-minded community. They were trying to ensure all owners are connected by six degrees of separation as they say. However, the M100B isn't sold via referral method. We can simply buy that version on their website.
Very nice but clearly overpriced. Take a look at the similar Timor revival of its www-watch which is even more true to the original, yet only cost 700 €.

I don't know, Rich. It's a real test of my imagination to rationalise 3.2k dollars for a hand wound field watch; no matter how lovely it is. Cost notwithstanding, Vertex's referral policy offends my egalitarian sensibilities -- I don't like that Patek and Ferrari do it; even less so when a rebooted watch company does the same. I don't doubt that Vertex's strategy was successful the first time around but i can't see how a referral policy can be sustainable in the long run. Personally, i wouldn't go near a Vertex lounge let alone spend more than 3k on a Vertex -- I'd be too embarassed if anyone knew i spent that kind of money on a 3 handed field watch. I don't know your friend, Don, so it may be unfair for me to write this; but i hope that he's not a tenth as pretentious as his watch company seems to be.
