Love mine. Had the 10, 13, 15 and four pairs of 16's. Picked up another pair of the 16 in the Brooks sale and also have the 17's so I'm running them literally side by side at the moment. Things I have noticed between the 16 and 17... 17's are far more flexible 17's are a bit softer 17's are a bit wider in the midfoot 17's (so far) seem better on the grass/mud 17's do seem to let small loose gravel into the shoe, I think it's because they are a little wider around my ankle. 16's are wider in the toe box One thing I would say (and this might be controversial!), I honestly think the Trail Track rubber is better than Vibram Megagrip. I've had Speedgoats in the past and I honestly had less slippage in the Cascadia on wet stuff. Just my opinion there, others may disagree. The 16's have got me through two 100k's and two 100 milers with zero issues (well, other than wet feet causing issues). I'm hoping the 17's do the same.
I tried the 16 and found that they put just a smidge of pressure on my outer midfoot that made them uncomfortable, so do you think these are 1-2mm wider at least?
@@snowcrash512 I think they are personally. I have to pull the laces a lot more on the 17's than the 16's and there is a little bunching in the upper material at the bottom of the laces. Just my opinion, please don't shoot me if you find they aren't ! 🙂
Thank you for your review! Just bought a pair. How well do you think the outsole holds up on the road? Do you think the lugs would wear out quickly and even if they do, do you think they’ll still be useful on the road? Hoping to use them as road to trail if it’s a good idea.
Hey there! The outsole rubber is pretty durable but there are better road to trail options available. I’d start here: ua-cam.com/video/7COsXj0oMcc/v-deo.htmlsi=h9GgdNvuqgZPWT3-
I have the version 16 GTX Gore -tex ($160)and they are superb winter trail runners. The traction is like knobby tires on a truck. Ice snow rain streams puddles, Nothing can stop you! I also hike mountains in them. I would not run road races in them. I would not run cross country races either , They are bulky built like tank all terrain shoes. Built for protection and traction …NOT Built for Speed! I own 2 pairs and use them alot for my off road adventures. One of my favs
Hi Kep 😉 I'm confused ... was thinking the flagship trailrunner from Brooks is the Catamount 2 🫣 Love the low ankle cut. That was my main problem with the Catamount 2 while breaking them in. Thanks for the Video.
I've been running the Cascadia since version 12. I still wear a pair of v13 as an everyday shoe. I've ran the Calderas but find them way too high for a trail shoe. On road I run Asics Nimbus Lite and Brooks Glycerin. My only complaint about the Cascadia is the weight so it's good to see them in a slightly lighter version. I'm torn between the Salomon Sense Ride 5 and the Cascadia 17. Would love to know what others think!
Thanks, good review. I ended up trying the Sense Ride 5 first. No issues so far in the toe box and I’m actually surprised how light and cushioning they feel. I also appreciate being able to feel the trail more than Hokas or Calderas
@@trailandkale Really fantastic man. I never thought I'd become a runner and become "one of those" people but here I am! Really glad to see you doing something you love man 🙇🏻♂
Oh nice, good call there! We moved to California back in 2017, moved around a bit in the US, then came back to Northern California. Such great running here, climate helps too! 😄
Hi! Can you recommend please as narrow shoes as possible? Currently I have La Sportiva Akyra, it's good, but little bit too wide for size with perfect length.
I only use high top shoes regarding to gore tex, because when you use running shoes, water can splash from the sides and the goretex does not allow inside water to escape properly
I have Speedgoat 5 but they run too narrow, not wide enough, so not using them much. I just ordered Cascadia 17 today! Waiting for them, I hope they'd fit well. 🤞
Give these a go :) but for my other trail running shoe recommendations, check out my list here: www.trailandkale.com/gear/best-trail-running-shoes-buyers-guide/

Thank you for that review. I can’t pass up the sale that is going on on the 16s.

So much shoe for only $140 🙌🏼
Currently have the C16's with a spare pair but after the review really looking fwd to getting the C17's.

Does the gotcha version get too hot for summers?
I’d say they probably will get too hot on a hot summers day.
@@vilavg3657 yes !...a little...but on a rainy summer day its worth it to keep from getting soaking wet from puddles.
Hi Kep 😉
I'm confused ... was thinking the flagship trailrunner from Brooks is the Catamount 2 🫣
Love the low ankle cut. That was my main problem with the Catamount 2 while breaking them in.
Thanks for the Video.
Brooks like to refer to it as their premier mountain trail shoe but I guess that’s always subjective :) Kep says hi 👋🏼 thanks for tuning in :)

Cascadia 17 is definitely the winner of the two. Here’s my Sense Ride review: www.trailandkale.com/gear/salomon-sense-ride-5-review/

Great review, thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Nice review! How are they on a flat surface i.e. for regular walking? Looking for a pair of comfortable walking shoes for the rainy part of the year 🌧
They’re very good all rounders so a good choice for walking too 👍🏼
@@trailandkale Awesome! Much appreciated 👍

I wished they'd make these in a size 16.
Hi! Can you recommend please as narrow shoes as possible? Currently I have La Sportiva Akyra, it's good, but little bit too wide for size with perfect length.
Salomon run pretty narrow
Im looking forward to buy these mainly for summer hiking. Do you recommend the gtx or non?
For summer hiking, 100% the standard version (non gtx) / it’s more breathable and flexible.
How do you feel the width? I have wide feet and I am worried about my toes being able to move around.
Hey 👋🏼 it’s medium width but they’re available in a wide version too!
Can confirm - 2E feels incredible
Ive got these but my outer feet started to get sore, i wonder if i need wides or they just need to break in?
Hmm, do they feel too narrow?
Oi!?
Would you consider the gtx (gore-Tex) version? I hate running with wet feet.
If you hate running with wet feet you should go with GTX
@@trailandkale any idea how much heavier the GTX is?
It’s about 6% heavier or (0.7oz)
I only use high top shoes regarding to gore tex, because when you use running shoes, water can splash from the sides and the goretex does not allow inside water to escape properly
This is true - a reason I don't tend to use GTX running shoes that much, I'd rather a breathable upper that allows water to drain too@@Uberkeko.
Cascadia 17 or Speed Goat 5? 😊
Speedgoat 5 (sorry Brooks!! 😛😄)

How do they compare with the Asics Trabuco?.
Hey 👋🏼 sorry but I don’t have any experience with the Trabuco yet..
thank u so much for your review, so is this suitable for 100M race sir?
I don’t see why not! I’d personally choose the HOKA Speedgoat 5 however 👍🏼

Actually cleans well and doesn't get dirty too easily
They look too high, ankle breaker
The stack height is actually quite low relatively speaking
How do these compare with the hokas speedgoat 5 vs ?
They’re a competitor for sure! Similar to Sg6!
