i seriously have no clue what the cause of the runecarver bug is but it's hilarious. i can only attempt a guess which is the "needs new target -> hits someone other than the barrel" thing.
If it's after chain lightning, I suppose you're triggering the chain lightning on the barrel (because you still deal 1 damage on it), which chain on the nearest target, which is a valid target for passive, which counts for runecarver.
maybe it has to do with the fact that sometimes with the good timing you can (could ? idk if it has been fixed, i tested it last month) farm golds on the dummy while shopping. Like it only happened if you Q'd it really fast just when the barrel reached 1hp left, and it looked like it when you succeed to do wifi runecarver so idk

Just an observation, it looks like the barrels aren't actually applying the passive burn unless the barrels are at 1 HP. This kind of makes sense as the Ethereral Weapon proc is being triggered on the barrel so it doesn't hit the enemies. Overall cool but Riot needs to sort some of this stuff out.
I thought it was when he chained the barrels that it was applying rather than just one barrel because the cd wasn't reset until after the barrel hits if it is only one
Yeah, GP is balanced cuz his melee passive mixes bad with his q and barrel range. so if a barrel procs his passive on range and the barrel resets the passive is op af. We all know the 6k HP Mundo burst barrel Aa rest combo
Yeah i've noticed they added it kind of long time ago.When i played old corki similar colors would pop out for mixed damage. Also it might change its purpleness or redness based on ratio between physical and magic damage

Firstly if you look at 4:30 it’s pre-chain lightning but it’s still jumping to the enemies. My only guess is some weird interaction with Gangplank Q, ethereal weapon, and the barrels but honestly I have no clue about that one. Secondly at 4:30 it seems to somehow go for both Garen and Sona, it could be unintentionally activating static shiv’s energised effect with runecarver. Lastly at ~12:33 despite having 10 runecarver stacks, only 3 hit Anivia (3 shots of 59 dmg). What I think happens here is that since runecarver can proc on just the barrel, it eats some of the stack before it dies, but when it dies it throws the rest at the nearest enemies.
There is something weird with runecarver redirecting to other targets. I’ve noticed this with shaco boxes. When you kill a box with an ability and runecarver is up it changes to shoot at another box if there is one visible and/or close by
I think at some point Riot made GP's Q work like a ranged auto attack. Since auto attacks apply the passive, they must have hardcoded to disable it for Q.
No gp passive is coded as an empower on next attack like gragas w. His q proccs on attack, on hit and also deals 0 spell damage instance to proc spell effect like ludens. But since ethereal is kinda coded to work with any on-x type spells/damage it applies passive
You are half right, its not a ranged auto but it is hard coded to not apply the passive. Its still melee in regards to everything that matters, its just also a missile/projectile

Me and a friend got Pyke/Jhin with chaffeur, double homeguard, with haste and shadow runner. Almost 4k movement speed. Best high roll I've hit so far, more to come.
Runecarver applies to the most nearby target if the original target is dead. Either that or the barrels exploding with the Q triggers some kind of hidden damage on the opponent. But that does not matter to know for the interaction. You also need to be near them and have vision of them for this to apply.

Watching your arena videos gives me hope when I load into a game and see people playing for goofy interactions like this instead of just stacking damage on damage on damage. I know that's fun for some people, and it's definitely fun for me once in a while, but silly things like this are what make the game for me
hi nidhogg ive been watching your arena videos for a while and had a video idea. theres a briar build that i run thats really funny that includes high rolling mystic punch, mirage blade, and cdr for your q or just ability haste in general. (the dream build that i was able to achieve once was dashing, mystic punch, earthwake, and bread and butter for my q) the idea of the build is to be able to infinitely stun with your q with your teammate being taric or a support thats able to keep the other player busy while you make the main person unable to move. if you have any question lmk ive been wanting to see people run this more because its really funny. keep in mind that mirage blade is necessary and mystic punch as well (moonblade is a decent alternative as well)
I think your prismatic augment causes apply runecarver i mean the barrel is enemy and whenever the barrel is closer enoughly to enemy to activate augment, runecarver works too
15:10 I think you were about to say it before you moved on to a different train of thought but yeah pink/purple numbers are when you do both true and magic damage, it will become more white/pink or more purple/blue based on if you do more true or magic damage respectively when you do DoT. I think it has to specifically be caused by the “same” source, like Swain ult with old Riftmaker or Vel’koz passive with ulti. Meanwhile Amumu passive just pops up as a separate source of damage entirely.
My favorite rune carver interaction definitely still has to be Katarina's Ult, it applies ever tick + per enemy hit, so you get to insta stack it so quickly after one 1 ult.
This phantom 1 true damage on abilities coded as an AA is so funny and nostalgic. Zilean had similar thing for his bomb for the countdown, so he dealt always bomb damage plus 6 true damage.
So, people may have mentioned this, but the reason why Runecarver jumps on them is because you DO proc it, as you've said, by hitting the barrel. And you know how when you proc it on an enemy, it kinda jumps on them and their ally, if they're close enough to each other? Well, same thing happens if they're close enough to the barrel. And since the barrel is dead, the entirety of the Runecarver jumps on them, if they're in closer proximity. As in, it has nothing to do with Chain Lightning. Or even Ethereal Weapons. As long as you get Runecarver on GP, this will happen. As for the 1 True Damage you saw on the barrels, my guess is that the way Ethereal Weapons is coded is to make your abilities do a bonus 1 True Damage, and then code that 1 True Damage to proc on-hit. That way they don't have change manually every single champ for Ethereal Weapons. They just add 1 bonus True Damage, and make it proc on-hit effects. It would explain why abilities that already proc on-hit effects proc them twice. Once for the ability already, and once for that 1 True Damage. In fact, if you look closely, every ability you do (after the 1 sec CD of Ethereal Weapons ofc) deals that bonus 1 TD.
also while playing gp there is an interaction with the training dummy while it's 1 hp you can farm gold with e q combos. I think it is a bug but I don't know.

If you are running out of video ideas, I just played with a weird bug on Udyr where I got master of duality and ADAPt on a second augment. I got like -70 AD on start of the game but after I got like 3k AP. This might be common knowledge for you, but, well, it wasn't for me. So there u go
Purple damage is 100% magic and true damage combined, I play a lot of gwen and whenever you hit her center q (which converts some of the magic into true) it's purple cuz it deals both
My assumption would be that you did 1 damage to a barrel, which caused you to chain lightning near by enemies for 0.5 dmg, it didnt seem like riot even considered this enough for a dmg number but still counted the dmg for runecarver.
the purple damage is just damage over time true damage that exceeds like 600-700. It's pretty hard to get after riftmaker had its true damage passive removed
i think maybe you have to have vision on them for the runecarver to bounce off of your barrel? not 100% sure but it seems like when you have vision on them and they are close enough it will proc but when you didnt it wouldn't. not really sure but thats the only difference i can really tell from the inconsistency. edit: also at 12:20 if you notice it looks like it was slinging runecarver at anivia until you walked away and lost vision so it stopped.
i dont understand ppl like that diana, goes to arena ( a supposed fun gamemode) instead of trying goofy synergies, goes full assassin ap nuke diana with a full assassin ap nuke kennen and complains when someone outplays them, i cant imagine what would be playing with those ppl on summoners rift.
I played ad gp some time ago with ethereal and vulnerability it was a lot of fun even tho sometimes it felt like it wasn’t working I had sword of the divine tho so I’m not sure what happened
Weapons make your Q deal 2 damage, chain lightning deals 50% of that to a nearby enemy activating rune. It doesn't really have to do anything with rune being able to proc off barrels - you can even proc it off plants with AA modifying abilities like Nasus q.

it's purely a runecarver thing, the runecarver tries to hit the barrel but since it's dead, the runecarver instead hits the nearest enemy
