Seeing the sheet music drives home exactly how amazing the mind that conceived it, as well as the heart and hands that gave such ideas life. Schuman, Wang, two of the wonders of the world. Sublime.
Seeing the score as she plays it, I am able to fully appreciate the complexity of the piece.
I think this one is the most coherent live performance of the Études Symphoniques, the closest to their true spirit. Also, it is extraordinary modern in her approach. Not to say that Mrs. Wang's technique is immaculate. Thank you Yuja and thanks for uploading.

I totally agree with you too! I have been listening to this for many, many years. I have lots of different versions, but Yuja has done the best ever version, I'm so glad that I found it, I love it!
"Mrs. Wang"? Yes, yes - I know. (Hold your fire, please!) Of course it is true that Ms.Wang's marital status has nothing to do with her superb musicianship (as far as anyone knows), but is it really a grievous sin to wonder about such things?

Sorry, but Schumann wrote "Sempre marcatissimo" for Variation @7. This is not a delicate romance. Overall Mrs. Wang delivers quite a spectacular, brilliant and ultra-clean rendition, but my feeling is that it is not exactly in Schumann's style.
Variation 7 (which starts at 8' 43'')? You mean variation 8 (which starts at 8'50''). If we compare Yuja's interpretation with those of Pollini, Trifonov or Ashkenazy, it begins indeed much less “marcatissimo”. But she plays more and more energetically as she nears the end. Full of mystery at the beginning, the variation descends into drama. It's very Schumannesque, and not exactly a “delicate romance”. This gradual crescendo is, in my opinion, more expressive than a performance that stands from one end to the other in the 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑒. In fact, there's nothing in the score to indicate that you have to be constantly in the 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑒. What is marked are 𝑠𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑧𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑖. And Yuja respects them in her interpretation, which incidentally comes very close, for this variation, to Radu Lupu's.
