Hello mate, I am about to get a L405 in a couple of months but lots of people having mix of opinions about Range Rover reliability and I owned a Range Rover sport and I was a bit unlucky with the car as the engine and gearbox gone the same time I’ve lost about 10k! But I really want to get L405 4.4 V8 anything do I need to be aware of before buying it please l? Much appreciate your opinions.

    • @Motorflix

@@alanarinotts honestly…. In my family we have had probably 10 Range Rover, discovery’s, RR Sports. Some have been amazing and have not put a foot wrong. Others have had a few issues. I don’t think there is much you can do to work out which is going to be which. What I would say is I bought mine with a year warranty and that gave me peace of mind, it has since run out (about a year ago) but it has been great since then too, buy the best you can afford and one that has been looked after and you should be fine. Hope that helps, and good luck with the purchase. 👍🏻

I had an 2008 L322 and travelled over 320,000kms in it, and literally just upgraded to an TDV8 L405 Autobiography. It's the 5th Range Rover I have owned. I once had said to me in my youth, once you own a Porsche, you will never be too far away from owning one again, this is 100% true for Range Rovers.

I have a 2014 5.0 V8 SC LWB - it has 118k miles on it and in the last 8 months all I've done is an oil/filter/air change and changed out the trans filter and fluid. Nothing has gone wrong on the car. I do plan on doing the front/rear differential fluid the next time I do the oil. And, I disagree on the satnav (at least in the States). I did a nearly 3k summer trip through 3 States using the statnav and it worked flawlessly.

I've got a Discovery 4 that I've owned since new (it's been great, no issues), and I was chatting to the Land Rover/Range Rover specialist during its last service. He's a Lexus/Toyota master mechanic as well as Land Rover/Range Rover - and he now specialises in just Land Rover/Range Rover products. We both had a laugh about that probably being where the money is, and I quizzed him on whether I should really be looking at a Lexus/Toyota product for my next vehicle instead of a Range Rover. He said "it depends - do you want the most reliable car, or the best car?" And that, I think, sums it up beautifully. And yes, I want the best car. :D

i have owned TDV6 2013 since it was 3 years old 29000 miles for 6 years up to 70000 miles now Autobiography in Gold black roof 22 inch wheels and Ivory trim. It has been excellent , the only problem cannot get top rear tailgate to auto close. Had cam belt and brakes replaced and gearbox oil and filter replaced. I am ex Brit motor man purchased the car in UK Ex lease and exported here to New Zealand. Love the vehicle am now approaching 77 so will keep it another 3 years and hope the crankshaft behaves itself. Do not tow or put it under load and garaged at both of my homes. Serviced by non franchise Range Rover specialists at a third of the cost . Would not want the later model with extra screen thankyou. My previous L322 Diesel served me well for 7 years although a bit underpowered. Enjoyed your video. Michael

All the controversies, negative experiences about the RR which I regard a phantastic vehicle, spread uncertainty and indecision of buying one. I see so many RR with engine fails and other massive problems. I wish they would be more reliable. Because there is no better Luxury, timeless elegant and noble SUV on the road with such a presence. Looking at a 2015 with 39K miles in the V8. Looks new and wife drove it. Problem is they had the car serviced at 3700, 17,000, and 36,000 miles. Very sparingly driven and mostly on short trips by the elderly couple. Looks immaculate and am getting a PPI however the lack of services concerns me. Thoughts?

Hey pro tip, if you get like a microfiber rag and put some rubbing alcohol it takes off all the gunk off the steering wheel buttons and really most of the buttons on the car. I went to change the Range Rover for a new defender first edition and just found it a little less luxurious, a bit more “plasticky” if you know what I mean. Still a great car, just has a little “less” for me. Petrol supercharge will guzzle fuel but if you are ok with that then it would be a mega thing!!

Mine has now done just over 100,000 miles and is still going strong, just had the inlet manifolds done, which is a common fault on them, across the Disco and the Range. It is very labour intensive and not a cheap job to do. So I would check if this has been done if you are buying one with a few miles. Other than that it is a gem and I adore it. Just done a big trip to the South of France (2500 miles) and it did not miss a beat.

2014 RR L405, and I jumped off. Nice but Just too expensive. At 60 k miles, all fluids replaced. At 70k, rear diff went, $2k in parts, $1k in labor. Then at 80k miles, again all fluids, brakes, tires, and suggested all coolant hoses and pipes. All this would have been near $6k at an independent. I sold it…felt like I was on a time bomb and a money pit. I had a RRS, 2011 prior and repairs were under warranty. Nice cars but…
