It appears that they may well be an access mode button, just ahead of the electric window switches, can be seen at 10:59 … can anyone confirm that’s what this is? Seems to be a different symbol to usual. Anyway, if that is the case, my apologies! I can’t believe I missed it… Thank you all so much for watching, liking, sharing and commenting!

That should be the "access height" button - it has the same symbol as the one on my L405
Joel, Thankyou for taking time to review this car honestly , some driver points that you can notice, they obviously lack strict quality control, other wise for an expensive car like this it would be perfect. Keep up the good work fella 👍
@@PointNemo9 No it doesn't. You get a very flimsy highlight pamphlet. Gone are the days of the full owners guide and leather holders, sadly.
As a JLR employee, always interested in hearing attitudinal feedback. Very balanced review, and infortainment comments are very relevant.
Please oh please push your higher ups to focus on reliability and repairability :) Lot of former JLR buyer friends of mine loved their cars but got stung one too many times
Another piece of feedback would be to provide somewhere that owners can feedback on Pivi. Not all of the changes made on the latest v4.0.0 are for the better!
@@henrymouland02 I think that's part of the problem. If I had any idea what that was or how to opt in I might... Surely this sort of thing would be best added to My Land Rover, or whatever that is now called .... :)
@@henrymouland02 We've had all new Range Rovers since 1989 and the last owner survey offered was on our first 2014 L405. Nothing on the follow up 2017 model or our current one bought in 2021. Is the survey, that you are referring to, on the LR website? If so, where?
It seems the way all the companies are going. I have a VW and the cruise control is the same, touch sensitive controls on the steering wheel. They’ve removed the intuitive stalk that used to be just behind the steering wheel which you knew what it was doing, every button and movement was physical and tactile and now it’s just a plain gloss black plastic panel. I have to look at the panel every time, the controls aren’t as functional and easy as they used to be and it’s taking up a space on the wheel that should be used for other functions. Not only that.. it’s piano black like the Range Rover so it just looks greasy and covered with fingerprints all the time! We want physical controls! No touch and swipe rubbish or hiding everything on a screen. This is becoming a safety issue IMO. All climate/assist settings on the screen is a pain in the arse.

Excellent review, I’ve possibly watched every L460 review in English and you noticed issues no one else has reported. Your history with RR’s comes through with your appreciation of Range Rovers and I value your take.
Glad you appreciate it, I also don’t remember seeing anyone say much negative about the new model. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still pretty much the best car in the world, but there are some small issues which coming from the older models do annoy you
Probably because others don't view them as a problem? New cars often have sticky buttons and take a while to get them set up to your preference, especially something as complex as this, so for me it's never an ideal time to post a useability review. I'd rather see a review a few months after somebody has lived with it, and things have "worn in" a little.
What a great review. As a long term L322 owner, this is much more informative than the normal overviews. In the end it is all the little niggles that can make or break a car when you own it and at this price point they really need to up their game to compete with Bentley and Rolls et all. I hope LR are listening to the potential software issues, unfortunately they did not make the most of the driver screen in the 2010 model despite their launch marketing videos which never materialised in the real car, and have not updated the software since, so their short-termist view might also be an issue here.
What a detailed honest review. We have a D300 on order and it’s great to know some of the points you’ve raised, ahead of collection. As has been said, you’ve spotted stuff that no-one else has mentioned before - let’s hope the non-responsive buttons on the wheel and the seat adjustment/infotainment issues can be sorted with a software update. Excellent work - keep it up!
Thankfully, there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with the car and you’ll absolutely love it, can’t really be beaten. I think as you say, most of the points raised can be fixed with software updates, fingers crossed! Good luck with it!
They’ve just done an over the air update to the system, you can now have Apple/android sat nav in the digital driver display, just got it in my 3 year old defender, works a treat. (And not had a single problem with it, used every day as a work Van basically)

You’re absolutely killing it Joel! Such a pleasure to watch. I do like your diplomatic version of “I feel like a bit of a knobhead driving one” - I’d still take an L322 anyway but maybe when I’m older and care less what people think, the L460 will be the way to go!

Biggest issues with all range rovers here in the UK is insurance prices and thefts. There’s now only a handful of companies that will insure a land rover products and those that do charge an absolute fortune. So many of these cars getting stolen because the poor security system, kids can literally steal these cars in seconds and JLR simply aren’t interested, this has always been the issue with JLR, same with quality problems, the lack of care. Plus the dealer network for the most part is difficult to deal with. Such a shame as the cars are simply stunning 🇬🇧
Totally agree. Never mentioned in reviews or by the dealer when you order. The CEO has said that new versions aren’t being stolen due to improved security , but insurers ignore this .
My 2010 L322 Vouge went from £800 a year to getting quotes of £3.5k. I have a clean drivers record and the car is kept in underground parking. What gives
I have a new D350 Sport, no problem insuring. Try Admiral. Mine was under £400.
Also you get a Thatcham 5 tracker free for first 12 months, or when ordering its about £350 for three years. That is seriously cheap.
JLR gas also issued a free software update for most of their older cars which specifically addresses theft. My 2019 Velar was recalled for it.
So in all fairness JLR are addressing the issues.
Phil Edwards you did well not sure when you got yours insured or if previous had RR . I bought my new RRS p440e in June 23 my long standing insurer would not do and best quote was over 5k , manage to do through fleet policy in my business for £1500 plus 5% of purchase price if stolen . I have clean license and over 60 .
@@alexmurray6956 I took delivery in June 23 same as you. Admiral were brilliant, one company refused to insure, not so with Admiral. May help that I have a multi car policy and live in low crime area. I'm also in 60+ age bracket. I did hear one story of EV and hybrid insurance premiums increasing due to damaged battery cell in accidents. Might be affecting the P440e.
Great, honest review, really like your style and the way you think about all points regarding driver as well as considering those outside the car, in terms of reaction and the headlights.
@10:50 isn't that a haptic button for access mode at the bottom of the shot, under the seat controls on the plate with the wing-mirror control?

Enjoyed the review. I have a D300 Discovery and it's one of the quietest engines I've ever come across, so surprised it felt noisy in the RR. Had a couple of new RR's recently as loan cars and was also surprised how few options there are to configure the display. The Disco has more flexibility. Also on the wheel buttons, the D5/Defender have matt plastic and they seem to work all the time, no misses as you had. I also wasn't so keen on the haptic feedback, I found I had to press harder than normal and often had to do it twice taking my eye off the road to make sure. Even Apple dropped this on the iPhone so I'm not sure it's better. Finally, on the new model year, the rotary AC controls are sadly gone, and moved to the main touch screen. It's not the way forward IMO.
Joel, I think that this is the best video you have made and gives the kind of detail that prospective owners would never find on a regular short test drive, but could drive one crazy after purchase. We could have more Katie btw!

The steering wheel buttons on mine work perfectly. Never noticed any lag or failure to register presses.....
Just taken delivery of Sport D350. What a engine. Accept your concerns about D300, however the 350 resolves those issues. In terms of highbeam assist, one possible reason may be where the headlights have been set. Having just returned from France I was able to set headlamps for right or left hand drive. No one has flashed me yet. Is yours set for driving on right side of road?
Really good and balanced review I've recently spend a lot of time behind the wheel of a p38 generation and it defently has that character that gets under your skin a bit sad to hear that the new gen is missing that. As the touch sensitive button I share the frustaration I experienced them on a new gen evoque and they were terrible. About the throttle response though the long throttle travel is range rover hallmark as it heps to contol the car better offroading
Insightful review thanks. I know exactly what you mean about the steering just off centre when cruising. I used to work for JLR and drove their vehicles in a quality control role. I worked on 18 model year L405 and the other vehicles in this period mostly. This artificial weighting really irritated me. It was much less evident in the Jags but noticeable on all the D7u platform. I wish I had taken this up with the relevant engineers especially now I know it is still evident. I think it is programmed into the steering software to give a sense of stability at speed partly because of the fashion for quick steering which could make the car a bit sensitive to steering inputs at speed. Getting back into my old banger after a days driving the JLR products was an eye opener. The steering felt so alive, natural and responsive in the straight ahead position.
The steering wheel buttons and slow throttle/ gearbox response from standing were a well known issues then. Shame these issues have not been worked through.
Hi Joel, a really interesting review. I have one of these, I ordered it on the launch day and I've had her nearly a year now. D300 MHEV HSE Belgravia Green, Caraway interior.
I found some of your comments pretty interesting, but the complete opposite of my vehicle. As you say, there is an access button on the door to lower the suspension, I checked the finish around my steering wheel and it's completely smooth, no sharp edges. The buttons on my steering wheel function immediately, no lag whatsoever. I think you may of been unlucky with the car you borrowed, throttle response on mine is instant, no lag plus my engine is whisper quiet, when I heard the engine on yours it sounds like a tractor, something not right there. When mine is up to temperature and you get out and listen to the engine, quite frankly it's barley audible.
However, I really enjoyed your review, good to hear someone's honest opinion. As you say though, what a car, this is now my fourth Range Rover on the trot, and this is in a different league to all the predecessors. All the best, Simon
ps - My Rangie has performed two over the air updates in the last 6 months, so maybe these have helped with various glitches.
Thanks for watching, and sharing your insight. It’s great to hear that you don’t have any of those issues! I think ultimately, my ‘test car’ was a rental and thus probably hasn’t been treated/maintained to the same standard of a privately owned example, which could explain some of the problems I experienced!
Great video - lovely car. The stiffness in the steering wheel you mention, could it have been the Lane Assist mode coming into play? I’ve experienced a similar sensation with other cars - but turn that feature off and it goes away?

There is the option to set the car to access mode by pressing the button by the mirror adjustment cluster.
One annoying feature is when you try to fast-forward a song and the voice recognition kicks in and is too delayed.
I have the P530 first edition and think the engine performs well, it’s not the most economical.
However I find the back seats with the screens and deployable armrest very tight. My old model seemed more spacious.
I'm from the USA...., " EXCELLENT " review...., I will keep watching for more reviews. 👍👍👍👍👍

I have a RR Velar and can say that I have the same problem with the Cancel button. If you take your foot off the accelerator, it works ok, but if you are driving at the time, I have to leave my finger on the button for around 5 seconds before it cancels or touch the brake. I have to say though, that I utterly love my car.

Was just thinking as I watch this just how far you have come since the Z4 days and the production quality keeps getting better - which is saying something, as back in the Z4 days its was pretty good 👍
Would be good if you can keep on a JLR roll and do the same with a new Defender (perhaps the D300 for a like-for-like). I had a P400 X for nearly two years and swapped it for a very low mileage 2016 D4 Landmark, mainly because I wasn’t bothered about the tech, was a bit glitchy at times, and prefer real buttons and the rear split tail gate on the D4 is just much better. 🤓😎
Biggest issue with the RR and others at the moment is insurance, many won’t insure, especially the RR Sport.
As a previous gen Range Rover owner , I have noticed ALL Land Rover models now share lots of 'tech' read , being Indian owned , Indians are not scared to trade with the Chinese , so now , even more so , the newer the car , Land Rover are fitting electronics that they find in Chinese lucky packets ! The L405 started off dodgy and steatily got worse as the tech got newer , I would hate to own one of these anything after a year old . Remember , LR products also have a sorded relationship with workshops to keep your wallet empty !
I drive this in D350 HSE form, it's ok, but I really don't think it's £20k better than the better looking and more dynamic Range Rover Sport. Great video, some useful comments some down to personal preference. Ie I find the seat appearing on the screen when adjusting a good thing as surely you adjust your seats before you start driving? I have the deployable side steps and I agree these are a must have option for any owner.

I have a 2018 L405 and have the same problem with those buttons on the steering wheel - very unresponsive to the touch. I would’ve thought by now that they would’ve taken care of that problem. Anyway great video. Thank you.
Thanks for your balanced review. Review like yours help all customers and the brand to have a real informed decision when buy such expensive car like this. Land Rover brand ain't cheap, they really need to get their quality at the level of their price.

Personally I would buy a Jag F Pace instead and save a load of money - after all they’re using all the F Pace tech. I driven these Rovers recently and they are comfortable but cumbersome - I was always pleased to get back into my F Pace. You should try one. Want to borrow my SVR?
The RR has never been my cup of tea but I think, like any vehicle costing £100k plus, one should expect it to be pretty much flawless. Nice review.👍

Luxury car buyers will love this new Range Rover. Original RR lovers maybe not so much unfortunately.. I do totally understand why Land rover does this though, the afficionado's cannot keep this brand afloat by themselves (Look at Saab for example). Anyway, love your content Joel!
access mode button is where the wing mirror adjustment controls are. My moan about my L460 is the position of the window controls. everything else, I love.
Definitely possible to fix by a steeing wheel replacement and software updates. Luckily because it’s an amaizng car. But, for me the thing I will miss thr most is the Software from BMW I currently own. Also the hand signal control option where if I rotate my finger in circles the volume will go up or down and if I thump to left or right it skips or replay the music.

Very nice vehicle. I ordered a new one, in the UK (circa£110k),to replace my 2020 model but I had to cancel it and ask for the return of my deposit because it was impossible to get it insured. The keyless system is too easy for thieves to clone and then steal the vehicle. So insurance companies in the UK are refusing to insure Range Rovers. Land Rover are aware of the problem but seem to be ambivalent. Had to go to Audi Q7 Vorsprung which is also a great car and cost15k less
I have one of the last, of the last models, The Westminster. And after watching your very informative review, I’m not sure I want to change to the new one! The one I have at the moment is my 5th Range Rover.

Your comments about auto high beam dipping are similar to our 2022 Subaru Forester. They don't always dip when they need to. I tend to use them "manually".
Vehicle builders - having too many centralised controls on a touch screen is not welcome, it's a pain!
Fantastic review - you need to live with a car for a good few weeks and put on some miles to really get a good feel for the + & -.
Would love to see a similar look at the new style Defender 110, I'm looking at taking either an L460 or a 110 to the Arctic circle late next year with some friends and it really would be interesting to see your thoughts!

Timing chain problems have been solved? Chain in the front of the engine, or is it an engine out job in the back of the engine?
Great cars. The touch screens on a lot of new cars are a pain. Peak Range Rover for me was the late L322
@itsjoel You can turn off the seat adjustment pop up in the settings menu if you don't like it popping up each time you adjust the seat.

No worries, I think from memory it's under the apps section of the settings menu and then under seats.
They took the trim piece off below, the dashboard approaching the windshield, because on the older models it used to squeak
Honest and balanced except for access button by the windows. I have a D300 HSE and it’s stunning. It gets better every drive!!!
Good review, was really annoyed at how dirty the dashboard looks with all that touchscreen fingerprints everywhere and dust everywhere!!

I have the P440e! Same colour, but tan interior! I prefer it to the Diesel! Accelerates quicker too! Also handles better. I chose the 21 inch wheels.

Good honest review Joel. I understand sometimes if your in a nice car you get the "evil eye" from some people which can be strange. Nice RR but the L322 are my favorite.

@@bertramfarmer7698 Yeah I don't why some people give you the dirty looks when you are in a Rangie. I drive fairly curteous, let them merge in traffic & give a wave & they don't wave or screw up their face lol. Seem to be a bit of hate towards the car. Its there problem really!

Still watching, but at 10:07 you mention no button for access mode. I believe the button is located on the driver’s door just ahead of the window switches, please confirm.
Okay I have found a picture of the manual access height button in the L460. It is directly ahead of the top left window button on the driver’s door. It is just like on the L322; it only lowers the car to access height. The manual raise/lower knob is gone but a manual access button is still located on the driver’s door.
I'm on my second L460, first was P400, current car P440e, car on order another P400, the 400kg of batteries in the P440 is really noticeable when driving, the P400 is much nicer ride.
The current car is my 6th RR in a row and this version is a positive quantum leap on the previous model. It is by far the most desirable 4x4 on the road, friends with Bentayga, G-Wagon, etc. do say the problem with their car is it isn't a Range Rover.
Some of the functionality eg air vents and ride height are a bit of a faff to adjust, but they are minor in comparison to the drive and manoeuvrability of this model.
I own this car and model and have owned a Range Rover for the last 33 years. I can tell you no matter how polite you drive or well you behaved you are on the road the response of others is quite astounding, you cannot believe the animosity the car evokes in others , I am a working class guy but to understand the average persons (motorists) reaction to this car you have to drive one.
Have you seen the harrys garage review with Clarkson for the l322? It lines up more or less with exactly what your saying.
The peaked with the L322 - best 4x4xfar, dare I say the best car by far...........
Looks nice but way expensive. Told my mechanic that I want to maintain my 2016 HSE for at least 7 more years.
I don’t understand why Range Rover gets flappy paddles yet my Defender with the same engine doesn’t. It needs them offroad yet they aren’t even an option on L663 unless you buy a V8 petrol ….. Also did you find it really really annoying in this car offroad that if you are in a TR mode and have to stop the engine, the car defaults back to Comfort mode so the car systems have to set back up every time you stop off road.

JLR used to plough their own furrow but now just go with the in crowd very much to there detriment and they are getting worse, the very newest MY have ditched the center console buttons in favor of functioning through center screen. I do agree this is the best looking Land Rover vehicle produced at the moment and even looks good from the rear end unlike many others including new RRS .

Very honest review. However a car is a car and these crazy electronic TV screens are just getting ridiculous. If you're scrolling down menus you're not looking at the road ahead. Simple. Far too dangerous ! It might be a comfortable car but you need instant controls. Mmmh not for me ! I got done by the cops for putting a tiny sat nav on the bottom of the windscreen of a pick up truck. It apparently would stop me seeing pedestrians. The fact that the Isuzu D'max has a long bonnet and the Sat Nav was well within the bonnet length hence not obstructing anything but paintwork was not taken into account. So how do these new Range Rovers pass the crash and safety tests?? Madness. I'll keep my old Series 3 😁
Cracking big car however as you know its a reliability issue that always lets Landrover down, lets see if they have got it sorted yet. If they did they would sell a hell of a lot more..
Still waiting for ours to turn up… perhaps summer 2024😵💫. Happy with current L405 anyway and so no worries 😝

Excellent review! I found many little things, that Volvo XC60 has more comfortable and more usable.
The Range Rover is huge for what it is, it’s even pretty large over in America.
14:25 steering wheel is sharp. Mine was the exact same! Stupid of JLR to not sort this out.

i cannot get passed the stuck on tablet look. looks like they designed the interior and forgot about the center dash and at the last minute put a tablet there

Not nitpicking it’s all justified points, to much has to be accessed through these screens taking your eyes off the road to gawp at the screen searching for the item you want to change, still a nice car though!👍🏻
Throttle feel: tune-out the EGR valve and it will feel like a petrol.
Btw Land Rover just got rid of the physical air conditioner controls and terrain response knobs on the dash and center console for MY 2024. Now everything is in the display.
