Plugs are a temporary repairs to get to a shop. The tire and rubber manufacturer association specify that punctures need to be fixed with a glued plug from the inside which will restore structural integrity to the tire.
Speed rating of the tire no applies after that type of repair.
In the UK, this type of repair (a string repair) is only recognised as a temporary form of repair to get you out of a bad situation.
Afterwards you need to get it repaired at a tyre shop to 'BS AU 159' standards to be deemed a safe and roadworthy repair.
As for repairing Runflat tyres, a lot of tyre garages in the UK do not repair them, so a replacement is recommended.
Little trick I always remember.. If you can keep some air in the tire, it makes it easier to get the plug in..
pretty easy for the front tyres, but still need to jack for the rear in most cases
That’s why after getting rid of run flats buy a hydronic jack and keep it in the trunk along with a flat-fix kit
I was told years ago that the only tire repair you want is a pull through and something else about it being vulcanized to the rubber. Not true?
I've read you're not supposed to do this with run flats. I still do it just like he does with these kits.
Companies actually expect you replace the entire tire when you get a flat which is ridiculous.
Do you people have a video on how to fix Vanos issues with beemers?
Every person should know how to do this. Great skill to have! Thanks, Bryan!!
I’ll go tire shop $30 can fix it
Well done superman. These cars (a real M car) don't have a spare tyre or run flat. Will you call and pay for a tow truck too? $100?
No contact cement on the plug strip?
I can’t imagine the slime being very good for your TPMS either
How and why?
Damni just did this yesterday
hey bryan! Can you do a comparison video for the Bavsound amp and speakers VS. Bimmertech amp and speakers ? Thanks -Frankie
Once again. Thank you for the timely video. I just ordered my kit from Amazon. Most of us BMW enthusiasts forget we no longer have run flat tires. Gotta be prepared and I was not. Nothing worse than a flat tire, no spare, stuck on the side of the 15 freeway half way to Vegas!
Really good video didn’t know these kits existed 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Yep had the low tire icon come on the other day. 1.5 inch screw in the the tread (run Flats) got home about 1.5 miles and got out the kit. Plugged it and its good to go!!!
Thats so funny i had a screw stuck in my rear tyre yesterday and had it plugged just like that. What are the odds.I have a F30 M sports
Just had to do this myself lol gotta love nails in your tire
Worst case scenario: you have the kit and tools but the air is leaked out completely.
I have been caring this kit in my car since I have been driving.....
Thanks for the DIY video. I am going to do this myself from now on.
It works with ur flats I’ve done it three times 😂
I have one in my F30 for 2 years now, no issues so far ! Good video
My 2018 ZCP with the same wheels recommend 32 psi. Why the change? 35 must run really rough. I put 33 once and the ride became too uncomfortable.
Smart video for all drivers.
Very good. Anyone know how long this can last?
These plugs work great. I've had to do it to a few vehicles and they lasted the rest of the tire life. Someone else commented earlier that they've had theirs in for 2 years with no issue.
Where’s the glue ?
Nice, Thanks
Pro Tip: Never use Slime in modern vehicles that use TPMS sensors. Tire sensors have small holes to read the air pressure in the tire, slimes job is to plug holes. Therefore $10 Slime will quite literally ruin your $200 TPMS sensors. Just add air plug like Bryan taught you and get to your nearest authorized Variant dealer for a new set of wheels and tires 😎
Will this plug work on runflat tires?
First
First?
First 👍
I’m surprised that it works on run flats, usually no one does it. Thank you for sharing I’ll definitely try it one day.
No one does it as they want every excuse to get you to buy a WHOLE new set of tires, you know, because selling 1, the others aren't worn the same, and hey, you have AWD? Have to change all 4 out (what they'd say).
Hopefully you won't have to try. But its a good tip to keep in mind
Yeah I had my run flat tire patched for $40 dollars have had no issues 🤷🏻♂️
