What’s great about this series IMHO is that we see the “same thing” over and over, with the main variables being environmental circumstances and post-processing decisions. This I think shows how much can be done by just considering all the possibilities for one “simple” subject, then choosing appropriate edits for different light conditions. Learned a lot (even three years later)
Thanks for sharing, love the before and after. There’s nothing like bringing your raw photo into Lightroom and Photoshop and bringing it to life. I enjoy the finishing as much as I do taking the photo. My favourite was probably the photo with the high lighting on the waves leading to the mountains.
I could not pick a favorite but I have to say that your photos are inspirational and I am from australia and we have nothing like the conditions you have but you have given me so many ideas so i cannot thank you enough
All are awesome Mads, but my favorite is the one at 11:00, where the sun is reflecting back up onto the mountain. I really was drawn to the dunes at this location when I was there, so that too is something that I like about that picture. I think the banding of the sun onto the mountain is also very very cool.
I'm in love with the North - I can't get enough of all these images. I'll put in a vote for the swirling water at 13:17. Virtually monochromatic, but so much luminance and movement. Just lovely.
Favorite for me is the image @ 10:35. Really like how the light plays on everything. Dead brown/yellow grasses in foreground and how they sweep around as a leading line at their edge. One thought I had was there is one tuft of grass kind of lower rt that keeps the black sand from the immediate foreground to be uninterrupted into the beach sand which would be a second contrasting leading line all the way to the mountain. Definitely not a deal breaker though, it's a fantastic image
When I think of you as a photographer I really am in awe. But after seeing the before and after images I'm really confident in myself as a photographer as well. I cringe when I edit my own photos always worrying about doing too much. But seeing the before and after images here I'm blown away by how much I don't do in edits. And I'm sure you are doing what all of the other top photographers are doing. Still I find myself chasing images in nature that get all of that special light or other conditions without digital input to bring it out 10x after the fact. I'm not criticizing in anyway. Just really mind blown to see the before and after images. Thanks for being so open about it and obviously am a big fan of your work either way.
I love the ice beach photo as I have not yet experienced that condition at this location. But I agree it is magical. By the way I love this video showcasing all different kind of different conditions. I you can you maybe can do this for other locations too. Extremely well done
Great video Mads, inspirational as always. I really liked the clarity & tones of the image with the rolling waves lead in near the end, but my favourite has to be the one with the ice in the foreground as it's so unusual & quite striking.
All great shots but I especially like the one with the waves that act as leading lines. The concept here is also excellent, showing the SOOC image and the post processing for each, done from different visits or simply different times, and finally what your thinking was for the post processing of each. Great idea!
Great video. Favorite? Do not know yet. I always kinda hang my favorite candidates from a shoot 'out to dry' as my background slide show. After a while, it becomes very clear which ones I like better than others. Sometimes with surprising outcome in comparison to initial rationale based choice. For now I am super intrigued by the shelf ice one. I have been in Iceland a few times now, including last November and March. It is incredible how conditions change, almost instantly, let alone by the day or the season. So far I missed Stokksnes on all occasions though.
This is really incredible and inspiring. there are so many possibilities for nearly any locations. looking forward to seeing this by myself, thank you very much for your videos and the inspirations 😊
I can't really say which one is the best because they are all so beautiful. But I am so happy to see that even the old A6000 actually performs so we'll. And for all those that can't afford a expensive camera. You should not bother so much. Skills are more important than pixels. Use time on learning composition, post processing and you will get there. Thank you for another great video. Love your channel.
Amazing! I really love how you processed the image at around 3.20, its a great before & after and shows how much information a raw file can really hold
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and work. There are quite a few images in here, but 17:30 captures a unique emotion of this place. Love the edit.
1. I love the Panorama with the reflection and the sun at the left side 2. I love the image with the wave going around that stone Both my favourites!!! Good Job👌🏻
Love the image at 8:08 with the leading line in the surf. Very powerful scene that draws you in. Also like the the one at 13:15 with the curving streaks in the water. This is my favorite for its subtly and mood. Looking forward to attending one of your workshops.
As someone who grew up in the area, I used to play in Stokksnes a lot as a kid. That was of course before social media or digital cameras so there were not (m)any photographers around. I never saw it with the ice pushed up to shore like it is around 9:27. For me that looks unique and spectacular. Great channel you have. I appreciate the effort of doing these deep dives into specific locations. It's addictive to watch. Keep it up!
My favorite is the photo with the most color with the foreground green - the only one. As for my one year delay in offering my opinion? A year ago I hadn’t been blessed with discovering you.
Another great video - you found some nice images even though the later than usual season and wind were working against you. The reddish leaves on the ground added a layer if nice color to the video footage even though they are essentially "dead leaves."
love the comparing season afternoon season .Vestrahorn my fave mountain in the world .My faves from here are the moodiest ones ,the ones that were surprises that you were able to see the hidden atmosphere.I love the one that you captured the swirl around the rock at the end and the moody one on the A 6000 and the earlier one with the lush green dunes .I love this place and your renditions so they are are all beautiful to me.. I love that you share your thought process,it helps me in the field when I feel it seems boring and when I look closer that is almost never the case if I look deeper.
So many facets to the one location, interesting to see the raw and processed images thank you for sharing. Hard to pick a clear favourite, they all have something special about them. Looking forward to seeing more later. Thanks again Mads.
I like three photos, first the picture of Stockness-1.50-,the nigth and northern ligths never fail, the picture of november 2018 with the ice is awesome, and finally the photo-14.44-with the dark blue sea water and sky is just perfect, the background too(the contrast of mountains).
Wow epic photos ... Hard pressed to pick a favorite but the last one was in my top three, along with the photo toward the middle of the bunch with the white s-curve in the beach. Thanks!
Really enjoyed this video Mads. Always great to see how others interpret and then process their images. Very helpful. Would love to see more videos like this, after all you have plenty of outstanding images!
Wow thanks a lot for another great video. In march 2019 I went to Iceland for the very first time but not without having watched at all your videos from there. And Stokksnes is one of my favorites spots too. I saw a sunset, northern lights and a sunrise during the same night. And I really know these magical feelings Stokksnes radiates. My favorite is at around 8:00. I love the way the white lines of the waves lead to the moutains.
There's not nearly enough of videos like this, I know Adam Gibbs does show raws a lot but he is a landscape of the year 1936 so there's that. Seeing before and after brings back hope, I almost deleted everything from my last venture, I saw this video and imported everything back into Capture One, thanks mate.
The image at 7:55 is my favorite. Like the curved line of foam leading in to the mountain, and the slow surfs crashingin from the right. Also the sunset shot at 3:18. Find the foreground and the background equally pleasing.
and thank you very much for creating this video. brought a beautiful spot again to focus. your passion for this place caught my travel lust few years back, and last year in September i visited the place and had the most memorable aurora sight over Vestrahorn of which i captured in few beautiful images. beautiful!
Hey Mads, some awesome images there mate. They are all strong but the one that speak to me the most is you one at 17:29 That is such brave and bold developing. I love the vision you had for it. Many people (maybe including myself) would have skipped past it in post and said... "Ekkhhh...." And i do keep having a laugh at someone's expense (you?....) as that fall into the waves.... is just spectacular! Not funny but good for you for including it. Regards Ewan
The wave photo with long exposure of 4 seconds is probably my favourite because of the uniqueness of the fore ground.... very thoughtful video and good to see the same location over a period of 2-3 years timeframe and how much weather varies
If I have to choose only one, I would go for the a6000 one at the end 17:31. It is very calm, and moody. Nothing that distracts. Also, it was very interesting to see before and after on each image. Thanks for the upload mate!
They are all wonderful. My favorites are the October 2018 shot with the strong leading line from the water and the February shot with the simple reflection. I love the simplicity of it. It's almost minimalist. Phil Zivnuska
And yet another very interesting and informative video Mads. Well done. Visiting the same location repetitively over time and in different seasons really shows what an artist can do with a subject. Well done. My two favorites images appear at 13:30 and at 18:10 in your video. Lovely.
I think for me my favorite was the one with the streaks in the long exposure waves - it's a beauty (though they're all beauties to be fair). I find it really simple and balanced. I love the look of this location, but the lines from the waves almost help to guide the viewer through the image and keep the peaks on either side of the frame from competing against each other for attention. Wonderful work!
All of them are nice but my favourite one would be the symmetrical one with the least distortion in min 2:29. It feels more natural/least processed than most of the others and the symmetry and reflection are almost perfect (the almost part adds to the realism), one can see the full mountain range and the tops. The colour palette is muted, earthly doesn't scream for attention, I could spend a long time watching it and reflecting without getting tired. And it looks like a bit like a fractal. If I meditate watching it feels like it is going to move or moving (I think the ripples help in promoting that illusion). I also like that it is free from the cliche compositional conventions of landscape photography; e.g. foreground, middle ground, leading lines...
An interesting video ...... it's nice to see not only your best shots but also the pictures in other conditions. The picture taken with the a6000 at 18' 00" is for me the most magical, a calm moody scene with a lot of drama. The monochrome tone and the softness makes it for me the best shot off the video. Like you described "like a ghost ship in the mist".
My Favorite is the one I will be shooting June 27th-28th 2019. I will be there in the Stokksness area. I like that you show the raw images, So many times I am discouraged by the photo straight from the camera. I need to learn more in post!.......Thanks for sharing this video Mads.
Interesting evolution of same object capturing process in different weather conditions and showing how things can look dippending on different timing and angle. I love it. Thx for this enlightenment 🙌🌱🤯
Amazing video. Getting to see the range of images from a single location and the commentary and thought that goes along with them is super interesting,I couldn't pick a single image that I like more than the others, instead it's elements of photos that make it for me. The black dunes and grass details are amazing as a contrast to the mountain, but also the long lines of waves catching the sunlight to form leading lines. Also when light and shadow hits the mountain for clear crisp details. I don't think it's all in one single image, but that's what makes the series so interesting to watch. I think this will need watching again in a couple of days, slowed down to a crawl and much bigger screen.
Haha you know me, Mads. I tend to love the ‘gung ho’ fantasy sci-fi images! For that I like the first one with the (star trekky) lens flares on the far left and it feels like from where the shot was taken you’re floating in space because of the absolutely dead still, glassy water. For your more portfolio worthy images, I’m partial to the misty long exposure tide pool shot with the strong leading curve of the receding water. It’s such a tangible and dreamy texture and really pulls you into the atmosphere beyond. Really enjoyed seeing all the before/after and images we’ve not seen yet!
This is a great video, Mads. My favourite photo is at 15:34. I'd be super-interested to learn a bit more about your post-processing techniques, especially how you craft artificial light and these fantastic flares.
Love all your videos. I hope one day to make my way to Iceland. Not sure how I will handle the weather conditions. My favourite shot is the one you go through at the 8 minute mark. I can feel the cold from halfway round the world.
I really love your videos from Iceland. Especially when it comes to Stokksnes, which is my top favorite place (along with Eystrahorn). My preferred photography is the s curve, it's a pretty strong composition ! 👍 Would love to hear your thoughts about the video and photos I will release from this place within 4 weeks. A little spoil for you, as I will probably mention your name as part of my inspiration to travel to Iceland and to this part of the island in particular. It also changed completely my work as a photographer after shooting news pictures for over 35 years... big thank you 😉
A superb video on before and after. One of your best... All your Stokksnes photos are great. My prefered ones are were moody/mystical look is shown. What I mostly liked is your before and after with the informations . Great video. As a suggestion could you using one of your Stokksnes photos give us a complete tutorial (lightroom/photoshop) on your workflow ... it would be fantastic . Thank's Mads
Ok I can understand your position. I think that should you decide to use one complete workflow to promote your tutorials it woudl be commercialy a positive moove. A lot of your followers would surelly view it , love it and be motivated in purchasing the tutitial promoted by the free complete workflow. As an example FS and Elia Locardi made 3 tutorial series named "Photographing te World" They promoted the first one by a free complete workflow made in Iceland. As you know I really like work and always look forward for your next video. Ps pardon my english writting I am a french Canadian.
A fair old variety there that’s for sure. For me it’s between the one with the dark foreground tufts that you say covers the footprints and the one with the ice waves. Gun to my head I’d probably go with the ice one as it’s got a spiky otherworldly quality.
I really enjoyed the video. I like the very colorful sunset as well as the one with the strong leading lines of the waves. I will be in Iceland in July. I don’t think you have a workshop then, but could you recommend a local guide to take me to the key photographic spots? Thanks again for a great video!
Hard to decide as each had a particular attraction but I was drawn to the image at 13:37 as I loved how the streaks in the waves and the clouds drew the eye towards the mountains. Beautiful work Mads 👍
Wonderful video as always. Hard to choose just one favorite but the one at 3:20 maybe I like best. Some of the others with the reflections and close second. I like the 3:20 one because of the colors and I like having the tufts of grass in photos of this location. B y the way it was really your set of Iceland videos that led me to develop my itinerary for a 13 day self drive tour. I did my Stokksnes photo shoot 3 days ago and hoping my shots come out 1/10 as good as yours.
Big fan of all your work! You've inspired me to visit Iceland next month and I cant wait! The photo at 3:25.. what time did you shoot the mountain/foreground itself?
Hi Mads, what a great video as always. Can't wait to go there in about exactly 23 days. Just wanted to ask you, do you have any video about your photo editing, how you stack those pictures together? That would be very interesting. Keep giving us great videos like you always do. Kind regards, Hugo
@@MadsPeterIversen I mean how to blend multiple photos like you do combining two photos for example to show both mountain peaks when one is covered by the clouds for example. I will have a look on the tutorials. Thank you very much once again!
It's funny... Other than when you deliberately exposed a certain way for dynamic range, I prefer all the images unprocessed. This was actually the most eye opening thing for me seeing this video! I sometimes get mixed up in the social media hoopla but at the end of the day, we all just like different things.
I really love the one on 9:22. The light source makes the whole image dreamy. Did you use any long exposure to soften the water on the lower part of the image?
Hi Mads. I think that 4s exposure (somewhere in the middle of the row) is screaming for B&W. It has great contrast and composition but the colors just don't give to the overall image rather take away the focus.
It would be easier to describe the preferred images if they were numbered. My general preferences are images with a strong foreground, middle ground, and background. The images with foreground grasses met those criterial best. The other one that was among my favorites is the one with the bright white snow contrasted with the very blue sky.
thank you for all the tips and inspiration ;-). I'm preparing my first personal photobook from iceland and editing photos. what sw do you use for stitching panorama photos together? btw my favorite photo is the one with ice crystals in foreground, I'm not sure why, probably because of the textures of ice and mountains...
I really love the image with the green grass on the dunes. Actually, all the shots with the grassy dunes really transmit a feeling of depth; but I'm a fan of color. Well done, sir.
What’s great about this series IMHO is that we see the “same thing” over and over, with the main variables being environmental circumstances and post-processing decisions. This is such an inspirational video. Just one subject, but so many ways of composing and capturing it's beauty!
0.58 seconds.......dude got cleaned!!! Another amazing video Mads
I could not pick a favorite but I have to say that your photos are inspirational and I am from australia and we have nothing like the conditions you have but you have given me so many ideas so i cannot thank you enough

3:15 I just love colors!

I like the green one and the one with the green grass in the foreground.

my favourite one is the wave curve round the rock pool, the 4 second exposure with streaks.....stunning Mads
Fantastic! The favourite was the image with the autumn coloured tussock. At 7:44
All great shots but I especially like the one with the waves that act as leading lines. The concept here is also excellent, showing the SOOC image and the post processing for each, done from different visits or simply different times, and finally what your thinking was for the post processing of each. Your 4 second exposure is my fave, but I enjoy seeing all of them! Heading there for my very first time in a little over 2 weeks!
really interesting and helpful, thanks Mads

You're welcome and yes! It sure is not about the camera :)
Amazing! I really love how you processed the image at around 3.20, its a great before & after and shows how much information a raw file can really hold
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and work. There are quite a few images in here, but 17:30 captures a unique emotion of this place. Love the edit.

Great video Mads! Stokksnes is my favourite place in Iceland. there is something truly magical in this place.
My favorite is the photo with the most color with the foreground green - the only one. As for my one year delay in offering my opinion? A year ago I hadn’t been blessed with discovering you.
I was with you when you took the shot from 2016 man was great meeting you dude and especially seeing and shooting the northern lights
Great to see so many different photo's from the same amazing location. The photo at 3:16 is my favorite, love the composition and the amazing sky!!!

Thank you very much, Rena! Happy to hear you like moody, it'll likely be like that on the Faroes ;)
Mads Peter Iversen 😊
started following your work yesterday .you have your won style which is wonderful thank you.
I always enjoy watchimg your videos. It's so informative and educative.
So many facets to the one location, interesting to see the raw and processed images thank you for sharing. Hard to pick a clear favourite, they all have something special about them. Looking forward to seeing more later. Thanks again Mads.
You're very welcome and thanks a lot, John!

Super set of images Mads. I'm going to duck out of choosing one favourite as I like them all.
Super nice video and photos! Love from Nepal!
What an amazing collection of images
Thank you, Darren! Much appreciated :)
My Fave has got to be the pano you did on your A6000 at around 17:30, so surreal and ghostly......
Thanks! Also one of my favs :)
My favorite is at 16:44 before you processed it! Great and informative video.
Someone other group of young people ;)
The wave photo with long exposure of 4 seconds is probably my favourite because of the uniqueness of the fore ground.... very thoughtful video and good to see the same location over a period of 2-3 years timeframe and how much weather varies
If I have to choose only one, I would go for the a6000 one at the end 17:31. It is very calm, and moody. Nothing that distracts. Also, it was very interesting to see before and after on each image. Thanks for the upload mate!
Awesome! Very interesting to see your before and after images :) Top editing!
They are all wonderful. My favorites are the October 2018 shot with the strong leading line from the water and the February shot with the simple reflection. I love the simplicity of it. It's almost minimalist. Phil Zivnuska
Nice images and very kind from you to share the view of raws and the final result after processing. Cheers mate, regards from Spain!
14:30 shot is particularly beautiful!
And yet another very interesting and informative video Mads. Well done. Visiting the same location repetitively over time and in different seasons really shows what an artist can do with a subject. Well done. My two favorites images appear at 13:30 and at 18:10 in your video. Lovely.

Make a complete video of PP from start to end would be great in the lockdown situation.
🙂👍 8:00 is my Favorit I think
8:30. A fresh perspective on a well-photographed location. Fortunate to say I've been there - epic location and a photographer's playground!
My prefered ones are at 03:15 and at 14:30.
Reasons are the colors for the first one and the simplicity and clarity of the second one.
Thank you
An interesting video ...... it's nice to see not only your best shots but also the pictures in other conditions.
The picture taken with the a6000 at 18' 00" is for me the most magical, a calm moody scene with a lot of drama.
The monochrome tone and the softness makes it for me the best shot off the video. Like you described "like a ghost ship in the mist".
Thank you very much, Mario! That's also a favorite of mine :)
My Favorite is the one I will be shooting June 27th-28th 2019. I will be there in the Stokksness area. I like that you show the raw images, So
many times I am discouraged by the photo straight from the camera. I need to learn more in post!.......Thanks for sharing this video Mads.
Post processing is absolutely essential! :D
Interesting evolution of same object capturing process in different weather conditions and showing how things can look dippending on different timing and angle. I love it. Thx for this enlightenment 🙌🌱🤯
You're very welcome! :)
Ice waves is pretty good, but overall I agree with you, overprocessing is always a risk
Hehe, thanks a lot for the thoughts, Mads! :D
HAha thanks as always, Seth! I like the flare photo too ;)
This is a great video, Mads.
It also changed completely my work as a photographer after shooting news pictures for over 35 years... big thank you 😉
Thanks a lot for the thoughts, Patrick, would like to see what you got from Stokksnes :)
You're welcome, Paul :)
I keep my editing workflow for my tutorials as that alone would be a 1-hour video :P
I absolutely cannot pick one right now. Every single one made me feel something different. And all of them made me wish I was there. #someday
A fair old variety there that’s for sure. For me it’s between the one with the dark foreground tufts that you say covers the footprints and the one with the ice waves. Gun to my head I’d probably go with the ice one as it’s got a spiky otherworldly quality.
Thanks for the thoughts, Steve! :D
I really enjoyed the video. I like the very colorful sunset as well as the one with the strong leading lines of the waves. I will be in Iceland in July. I don’t think you have a workshop then, but could you recommend a local guide to take me to the key photographic spots? Thanks again for a great video!
Kaspars Dzenis is pretty good if he is available :)
Brilliant !!
Hard to decide as each had a particular attraction but I was drawn to the image at 13:37 as I loved how the streaks in the waves and the clouds drew the eye towards the mountains. Beautiful work Mads 👍
It would be so interesting if you could make a video about how to choose which photo will work on instagram, which for portfolio and so on
20 great images! love the last one (not the last with aurora)!!
it would be very interesting to see how you did the panoramas (incl. on site shooting)
Thanks a lot, Maico! I have many videos with on-site shooting and also have another entire video from here :)
It was during sunrise, so something like 3:30am :)
Liked, subbed and saved to my playlist. A question, do you use ND filers, and in what conditions?
Thanks, welcome aboard. Yead I use a selection of Kase filters. I talk about them in my gear video from December :)
Hi Mads, what a great video as always. Can't wait to go there in about exactly 23 days. Just wanted to ask you, do you have any video about your photo editing, how you stack those pictures together? That would be very interesting. Keep giving us great videos like you always do. Kind regards, Hugo
Hi Hugo, stack exactly what photos together? I have some tutorials for sale via the links in my bio :)
Amazing pictures !! Difficult to make a choice.. probably the same as yours ...
I really love the one on 9:22. The light source makes the whole image dreamy. Did you use any long exposure to soften the water on the lower part of the image?
Nope, this is a pano, was a very still afternoon :)
Sooooo Mads, explain to me the difference between vibrant, dramatic, and HDR?
Prob your best vid imho
I love the images from my A6000 as long as I don't need to severely crop or the ISO wasn't too high.
What is it about the area that makes the shallow layer of water on the sand and the reflection? High tide + calm winds?
Hi Mads. I think that 4s exposure (somewhere in the middle of the row) is screaming for B&W. It has great contrast and composition but the colors just don't give to the overall image rather take away the focus.
Hi, I honestly disagree. I really don't like B&W unless I shoot for it. In this case it's a no from me ;)
Could you show us how you edit the pics?
I have a couple of videos from a year ago where I edit photos. I have three tutorials for sale and I plan to make a small video soon :)
It would be easier to describe the preferred images if they were numbered. My general preferences are images with a strong foreground, middle ground, and background. The images with foreground grasses met those criterial best. The other one that was among my favorites is the one with the bright white snow contrasted with the very blue sky.
Well I think all the images are amazing but if I had to pick one I'd pick the last one shot with the Sony a6000 since that is the camera I use.
thank you for all the tips and inspiration ;-). I'm preparing my first personal photobook from iceland and editing photos. what sw do you use for stitching panorama photos together? btw my favorite photo is the one with ice crystals in foreground, I'm not sure why, probably because of the textures of ice and mountains...
I normally use CameraRaw or Photoshop for my panos :)
I prefer the unedited version of the shot at 8.03 personally
13.37 @ wow
I really love the image with the green grass on the dunes. Actually, all the shots with the grassy dunes really transmit a feeling of depth; but I'm a fan of color. Well done, sir.
