The visuals in the MV was beautiful and I liked the first verse....but the rest of the song was a bit repetitive. I really hoped to see them trying something new and showing more growth. Hope their title track is better than this.

I don’t know why everyone is complaining about the song?? This is one of my favorite things that they’ve ever done. It’s just different compared to their other stuff, which is why people are complaining. But if it was similar to Kill this Love people would find something to complain about too. I think people just have way too high expectations for Blackpink. Which is YG’s fault, if they released more music, they wouldn’t have as much pressure on them.
I literally hear every track they released so far in this song. I'm genuinely curious how people find it so different from everything they released? Like what is different? I literally hear boombayah in every song they do, and i like that song, but like hearing the same thing over and over again gets boring and it just doesn't do it for me anymore. Blacpink in 2016 was revolution, and it's sad they still sound the same in 2020. YG needs to get rid of Teddy, and both Blackpink and us deserve better.

I think the reason people are complaining is quite the opposite though, it is because the song is kinda similar to BP's previous songs. Like you can hear Ddu Du, KTL, or even Boombayah. And people were expecting much more than similar concept and music color.
But again, it's BP and no doubt this song will top the charts and all.
@@Orgil0122 I strongly disagree with you, along with OP's comment. I am 100% backing @Luna Lopez's statement. The track is extremely similar to BP's previous hits but although consistency is key, repetitiveness soon becomes boring. They literally borrowed lyrics from previous songs (ex. Look at me, look at you from Kill This Love) and even though BP is not renown for their deep lyrics, they had over a year to come up with more interesting lines. The girls are gorgeous, the MV is high quality. Kudos to the stylists and the make-up artists for their great visuals. However, I hope the rest of their album portrays a diverse array of songs.

I'm so underwhelmed. I really want to like Blackpink because I think they could be amazing, but I am so tired of YG releasing the same freaking song over and over and over and trying to pretend there's something new here. This sounds outdated, like it's been in the vault since 2016, and the lyrics are cringe.
Rosé in particular deserves better. She is criminally underrated and is having all her potential wasted with boring, paint-by-numbers songs like this.

That said, my initial reactions were pretty similar to David's, right down to the criticism. My only con with this song is that it runs waaay too short and the dance break could've gone on for longer - it's so good! HYLT is a fucking bop and I can't wait for the mashups/rearrangements from the community! 🖤

Since I'm Greek, I couldn't NOT notice the greek elements of this video which are actually really interesting. To name a few, in first scene, this statue is the Nike of Samothrace and represents victory, also the first scene looks like ancient greek theatre. Also in the last concept you can see the wooden horses which are the famous Trojan Horse. It's about Trojan war, where the Greeks tried to enter the city of Troy and win the war. Long story short, after a 10-year siege, the Greeks constructed a huge wooden horse and hid a select force of men inside, including the famous Odysseus. The Greeks pretended to sail away, and the Trojans pulled the horse into their city as a victory trophy. That night the Greek force crept out of the horse and opened the gates for the rest of the Greek army, which had sailed back under cover of night. The Greeks entered and destroyed the city of Troy, ending the war.

To be honest I was really looking forward for this music video to be something different but they are still using the same formula over and over again. They may be changed 20 or 30% about it and the visuals are obviously different and stunning but it just highlights the fact that the whole song has the same structure as the previous title songs. I wanted to love this song so badly and I really hope that for the title track they will really break out of that formula and do something new.Because BLACKPINKS Vocals and Rappers are more than able to do that and it would really help to oppose against their imagine of just sticking to one thing

I really loved the mv. I felt all members shined equally but the song felt a little underwhelming for me and this is SOLELY my opinion!!! I genuinely liked it when Teddy experimented with styles like Whistle, playing with fire. I feel that When D4 became blackpink's biggest hit, Teddy found out what the audience is in for. So now all he wants is to follow that template. It's no secret that it's working for them because of the views they've been getting. But I think blackpink themselves would want a little diversity in their discography, especially considering the fact that Jennie wrote stay which is TOTALLY different from their other tracks.

My idea for the Trojan horses is to represent that they’re giving us this but sneaking something else in.

I am so satisfied in this reaction.
So a few things I liked and disliked about this song.
I really liked Jennie and Rosè voices in this, especially when they say "Hah-How you like that!"
Jennie's vocals have improved significantly in this comeback, love them.
Jisoo, wherever she came she slayed, I was expecting her to say BLACKPINK IN YOUR AREA this time but okay YG! .
The part just before the chorus is the best part of the song for me I guess.
They look pretty, ofcourse, nice costumes.
Things I disliked-
The chorus sounds scattered, like it's all over the place.
Lisa's rap doesn't make sense, sense a sin she can rap but the rap part didn't have any meaning.
The part 'look at you now look at me' is repetitive and not catchy.
The lyrics of the song overall don't make much sense. It's as if they are trying too hard.
The last drop sounds like one of their older songs, I don't recall the name right now.
Choreography is so so.
In all I expected a lot more from them after a comeback this long. 🙁🙁
