because he used the 63 telecaster a lot up until the stadium arcadium tour. an amazing guitar with amazing tone. IMO it's one of the best looking & playing guitars around.
Yah, the director of that show's favorite band is the Chilis and he based some of the characters off of them. If you notice John and the guitar player (can't recall the guys name) from the show have somewhat similar appearances. He also wears a shirt in some episodes that say Red Hot Chili (something). I guess they had to change the name due to copyright.
@LightDecor90 If I just listen to the sound I'ld say the same thing (or maybe some sort of treble booster) but if you look at the pictures of his rig/pedalboard you'll see that he doesn't have one at the beginning of the by the way tour, and he has the same sound their... it's life's biggest mistery :D
