    The kind of dedication it took to perfect that kata will be useful for you throughout your life. Ignore the haters and stay focused on your goals.

      Although it looks cool, it is not any form of kata, but merely some perfected circus dance. Good for amusing kids, and proof of fantastic agility... but it has no connections to real martial arts.

      I agree.
      The kama, bo, sai... ect. have no connection to "real" martial arts. That's why our modern military doesn't carry them.
      In the age of the gun, most people practice for self-perfection, not self - protection.
      Check out Keanu Reeves and Halle Berry at the gun range to see an example of civilians engaged in real martial training.

      @@bongothom Kid, don't be silly. Those weapons are the only connections to real martial arts, but thats it. Those moves are cool and that guy is great gymnast, but what he is doing is pretending to look mean, do some moves and strike some poses. Those kind of acrobatics are as fake, as Wrestling. Sure, some wrestlers tried their luck in mma, but most are just bodybiuilders with charisma. Lets take this guy witk kamas. Dress him as Power Ranger and there will be no diference. Thats just a show, and people should not call it martial arts.

      Again, I agree; very little of what is passed off as martial arts should be using the descriptor 'martial' without a qualifier such as 'old-fashioned', 'medieval' 'archaic', 'traditional' or 'pretend'. (To include this skillful demonstration).
      Nonetheless I stand by my initial post that the discipline, dedication and work ethic required to achieve that level of skill will likely carry over to other areas of his life increasing his chances of leading a successful life.

      @@ugabuga156564 it's called tricking. has its roots in martial arts but isn't one itself. and he's definitely no gymnast. he didn't do a single gymnastics move in this sequence. he's not "pretending to look mean" people do tricking because it's fun and looks cool to a lot of people. a lot of trickers came from martial arts and tricking is used in martial arts demos, but it's not a martial art and nobody claims it to be. nobody does these moves with the intention that it makes them a better fighter or that they could use it in real combat. it's not "fake" it's just a different sport

    It's too funny when people insult these guys. I LOOOVE XMA. It's not about who can fight, it's a mix between gymnastics and martial arts. It's meant for show. I fell in love when I found this Christian man who practiced it for himself. He did so because it gave him purpose and something to master. This kind of thing just demonstrates what the human body is capable of doing. It's astonishing, almost not human. I can tell you that 90% of the population probably can't do that. Even if it's not traditional or whatever, just imagine how fit and athletic these guys are. I bet the Monks at the Buddhist temple would be secretly impressed being that we're Americans.

    I am sorry if you can not do flips and tricks with your kamas. These hyper kids have more talent than the vast majority. Don't hate on them, just appreciate what they can do.
    In real street weapons, they won't twirl and spin.. just know they are lightning fast with complicated moves. So expert level with your basic moves. Yeah they could mow you down if they needed to. Respect from me (regular old black belt) to the hypers of today.

    I love all the comments acting like what you did wasn't impressive. It's like they don't know the kama can be the most lethal weapons on the planet if used correctly, and you just demonstrated a routine that, in my opinion, was convincing enough that you are very skilled with kama. All I'm saying is in one-on-one armed combat you could take on just about anyone in the world (minus a gun of course). Assuming it's a fair fight. That being said, there aren't really any fair fights in the real world anymore.

      Isn't the biggest counter to karma just... decent arm armor?
      I mean I won't deny that they're good as a makeshift weapon for farmers back when it was actually used in combat..
      And the routine he preformed is certainly impressive, but Kamas do have quite their limitations as weapons. Idk about taking on anyone in the world lol

    While he is extremely good with kama and can obviously do tricks with them does he know how to actually use them to fight. Because know how to deflect an incoming weapon or hook/slash the right areas of the body is much different than just tricking. For example i can trick with my nunchucks and a good with them. BUT it does not correlate to fight ability if the other person has any knowledge of close quarters combat. I would get my butt kicked every time. I guess Im just curious if he trains with them in a historical (aka fighting) sense or is it all just this trick flashy stuff. Or how people in competition run their bow staff through their fingers while twirling sometimes but that would never be done in a fight no matter how cool it looks. Mainly because when adrenal kicks in most people lose a good portion of their fine motor skills especially with finger dexterity.

    • @historybuff8701
      @historybuff8701 7 років тому

      and spinning the kama around his finger is not a cool trick to me. This is because a real kama has a sickle blade where he is spinning it on his finger. Talk about a loss of finger dexterity.....

    • @HaruUch1ha
      @HaruUch1ha 7 років тому

      We all know that the first weapon we're grabbing when someone comes in with a bow and arrow is grab our kamas... because it's apparently 1456 and not 2019 where none of this nonsense your spouting makes any sense.

  • @AdmiralMcGravy

    I understand that this took a lot of work. I understand that this took many hours of practice. However what I don't understand is how is this martial arts. I've been training since I was 4 years old. Something that has been drilled into my head since day one, is that we do not show off.When a true artist loses their humbleness , they lose their art.
    We only train for what is practical, we only train to be better and to be better than our enemy. This modern age martial arts is a disgrace. We need to go back to the basics. We need to understand that we our artist challenging ourself daily.

      +Joshua Stallings Shut up. Please. Let him do XMA if he wants, it's what he likes to do. You have no right to say this is a digrace. Besides, he probably is very good at traditional martial arts techniques as well, you don't know that. I've been doing martial arts for almost 8 years and I know a ton of basic basic traditional martial arts: self defense, kata/poomsae, etc., but I also love to do extreme Kama forms for show. Nobody EVER said you can't do both.

    • @joshuastallings7126

    • @AlexBaez99
      @AlexBaez99 8 років тому +7

      +Joshua Stallings They are two completely different types of Martial Arts. XMA is made for competition and demonstration, while traditional is meant to keep you humble. I do XMA because I love to perform, but it doesn't mean I'm a show off. I always keep my skills to myself unless I am asked to perform. If you don't see how doing both is possible, that's you're problem.
