I don’t think that’s the 2816 will travel on the former NYC according to the scheduled stops, which if I’m not mistaken is actually going down to Mexico.
If you're referring to British locomotives, it's because we don't use lamps as classification lights like Brits do. Most people think that the lamps are to be seen in the dark, but they're mainly so people can see the train at night or in poor visibility. We used lamps on top of the smoke box called classification lights, which can either be red, green, or white. Now, how we tell what train is what and where it is supposed to go is beyond me. I shall do further research.
