See this vid: ua-cam.com/video/uJ4w63wZyFQ/v-deo.html Head check is a skill unto itself my friend. Often, at the same time that you're head checking, you're turning on your signal, and checking the mirror too. Drop us a note if you have further questions. All the best, Cheers Rick
A “head check” means turning your head to check your blind spot. Your blind spot is located in the window next to the back seat on the side you plan on moving. There is a large area on the corner of your vehicle that is not in the field of vision of your wing mirror, your rear view mirror or you front side window. This area is large enough to completely obscure a small-mid size car. You must also do a head check and mirror check when crossing a bike lane to enter a right turning lane, for example. Another blind spot is located behind the driver side “A pillar” and usually hides pedestrians. You must check around that “A pillar” when turning left towards a cross walk, for example. Failing to check either of these blind spots is an accident in the making.
When planning to turn on right we shoulder check amd change lane and now we are at the intersection , So do we still shoulder check when finally making the right turn when there is no other lane at the right hand ???
I'm 45 and JUST took MY driver's LICENSE test today and 🤸🏽🤸🏽🤸🏽🤸🏽I PASSED with 85!!!! word of advice take your time, speak over yourself with positive affirmations and thought's, pray and relax YOU GOT THIS!!!!!🙏🏽🥳😁
I'm 26 years old and have had severe anxiety to start driving. Luckily I lived in BC where we had great public transit. I've now moved to the states and can't survive without driving. Your videos are helping me beyond belief to get over my fears. Thank you so much!! ♥
Mercy Mohan hey! I’ve been driving for two years now. I’d say the biggest things that helped me get past my fears were to take it at my own pace and to trust myself. The odds of you getting in an accident are slim to none, especially since if you’re anything like me you’re hyper focused to the road. You can get past these fears and it will become second nature to you! Just keep watching videos and don’t give up! You got this 🥰
Did you keep practicing on your own, alone in the car? Or did you have someone experience with you in the beginning? I feel like, having someone with me makes it even worse for me.
@@kamranshekh9404 I had my husband with me and it was a lot more nerve racking with him there. It's definitely hard when you feel like someone is constantly judging/critiquing you but it gets better when you have confidence in yourself.
You said that and I had a common sense epiphany. Everybody else on the road wants to get where they are going safely as well- nobody wants to be in a car accident. So they are going to cooperate so everything goes smoothly. (I always just kind of thought, I don't know what other drivers are gonna do and worried they would do the wrong thing)
I always get so anxious soon as I signal like I have to hurry up and move like the other cars are gonna be expecting me to merge immediately but I realized I was over thinking and scaring myself. 😥
Hi Brit Brit - Apologies for the late response. Thank you for your comment. And you are correct my friend; there is a lot of social driving pressure to hurry up and not impede traffic. Hi Dan Leone - Thank you for your comment. And you are most welcome. And yes, at times that happens as it did here in the video when I was waiting to get past the crosswalk - 13.13. I'm very nervous because I'm almost 25 with hardly any driving experience but i have been studying the handbook and watching these videos. I'll be 25 in 2 days, and I have finally gotten over my driving anxiety. I tried to get my N twice. And I failed twice. At the start the first time, which was in heavy rain(I have never practiced in the rain, like an idiot.) and for the second.. I was merging and cut someone off at the end.. It's better. To wait until you are actually READY to drive before you try and drive. I took lessons, take those and you will get SOOO much better! They have a wheel and everything so you will literally get better!
I passed my test a couple days ago and wanna say thank you for all your help, and will continue to watch your videos to better improve my overall driving! You're awesome man you're doing a great thing!

I'm 30 years old and have been driving for 15 years. Although most of this stuff is intuitive at this point for me, I still have a lot of anxiety with changing lanes in heavy traffic or other drivers overtaking me from the wrong side. In particular, I learned a lot from your handling of the situation at ~13:20, trying to switch into the right lane, while a speedy driver was overtaking you on that side -- that always makes me nervous, but your handling of the situation (keeping the signal on for the rest of traffic, holding steady, and waiting until he passes) was very enlightening. Watching this was a good reminder to stay aware of the road but keep calm and not to panic -- seems like most near accidents are due to panicky or ill-managed communication. Was actually really fun and informative watching this whole video, despite my tenure as a licensed driver. Thanks for the nice video, great work you're doing here!

I have trouble changing lanes both because I pay too much attention to what’s behind me than what’s beside me and I don’t give myself enough room. This makes my lane changes less comfortable and I find myself second guessing them. What I’ll try to do is build a routine on changing lanes. Three turning signals with a shoulder check and then one final shoulder check after the three turning signals.

Also, wanted to share for those who may be feeling nervous/insecure out there that I had a lesson before my test and my driving instructor told me I would not pass because I hesitated too much. I thought this was such a horrible thing to say right before a test, and it really contributed to my nerves. I tried to keep in mind what I learned through lessons and through these videos and told myself: I've got this, and it worked!

Hi, Rick! I passed my driving test a little under 3 months ago and I commented on the other video to say so but I want to thank you again and ask a question because there’s still a couple of things I’m having troubles with. Your videos were so helpful and I still find myself watching them and going over things even still because I want to be a safe driver. So, I’ve been having an issue with looking out of my left side mirror, specifically when I’m yielding to traffic coming off the interstate. My city has two major interstates running through it and while I’ve so far not driven on it because I’m not comfortable yet, it’s something I want to work my way up to. I feel like merging on to the interstates is going to be a huge problem for me because my brain doesn’t seem to like to compute what I’m seeing in my left hand mirror and while I still do shoulder checks, its hard for me to really gauge my surroundings about when it’s safe to go. I try to avoid taking the access roads unless I have someone riding shotgun with me to help but I’m not always going to have a passenger. I have no issues with the right side mirror at all. Maybe I don’t have the left mirror adjusted as it should be but following the advice of others, it is. When I’m stopped at the school to pick my kid up, I practice looking out it and when I drop him off in the morning, I have no issues with moving away from the curb but when I’m on a flat surface and not at an angle (such as on the curb) it doesn’t want to compute. Any advice on mirror adjustments or any other advice regarding using the left side mirror to merge on to a freeway?

Just coming back to watching your videos since I realized I commited some reckless driving today. As I was driving I tried to pass a truck that was going at 60 mph or less near to the exit I wanted to take. As I tried to change lanes and go back to the slow lane to take the exit, I think I just cut off the truck (or at least the distance I ended from the truck was a lot smaller than the one I am mostly comfortable with, the truck could still be seen completely on my side mirror, however, give a second or 2 and the truck would have covered my mirror). After entering the exit, I got upset with myself since that just didn't feel smooth, I would have rather going at 60 and wait for the exit or wait for the next exit when passing the truck instead of having imprudente taking over me. Thank you for your content. It has been around a month since I started to drive and your videos help me feel confident!!!!
I really enjoy your videos. They recently helped me pass my driver’s test in New York City. Ironically after I got my actual driver’s license, I traveled to the United States Virgin Islands 🇻🇮, where they drive on the left side like they do in Europe. I rented a car and had a great time driving and exploring the islands.😊

I don't have difficulty changing lanes. I got my license when I was 17 and now I'm 49. I moved out of state with a ticket and let my license expire for over a year. I went back to the other state and got my ticket cleared up. Like you mentioned people who are driving for many years get into different driving habits. I need to retake the road test. Your videos are coming in very handy, especially the lane changing one. I got in the habit of turning on the turn signal, looking in the side mirror for it to look clear then when it does look over my shoulder to be sure and then get over. However for the purpose of the road test they want everything a particular way. That's where your videos come in very handy. I'm definitely going to try to get a mock road test in if possible as well, thanks for that tip too!!

Hey Rick, thanks for the response. Well, what I had a problem with is changing lanes in heavy traffic in a city scenario, that would be a useful video for me. For example, how to change lanes when the lane you're in is moving slower than the lane you want to go in so you can't match speeds, and it's a very heavy, congested traffic situation with lots of crosswalks, pedestrians etc. I failed my exam in this situation because I cut somebody of, I had to change the lane in order to make a right turn and just couldn't find enough space to do it.
Hi PeterM - Thank you for your response. I know it's intimidating on a road test, however, if an examiner wants you to make a turn and you just can't change lanes, some time you're going to have to abort. Then it's up to the examiner to get you back around. Some times aborting a manoeuvre is needed to ensure safety - especially on a road test. Also, this video may help: ua-cam.com/video/YwWd8fLvih0/v-deo.html If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hello, following distance and backing off. I did that during my driving lesson. I saw him far from my red light so There was a white car double parked while I was driving he didn’t had his signal on and his wheel was on the left. So I stood aware keeping in mind about him. While scanning my surrounding. Like you said. As soon as he was about to turn I stop smoothly and just let him pass. Safety first. Im having trouble steering wheel while turning my left and right ahhh! I know I can do this! I will learn how to drive!
This happened to me yesterday morning I didnt see the car coming while turning into the right lane he honked and then he braked suddenly Infront thank God no one was behind me and I kept a distance when he braked aggressively but I did apologize to him but I did scare me and I have anxiety of driving this video does help me and you are right you get anxious thinking you just have to make a turn right away because if someone is behind me they are rushing me that's my problem

Hey Rick, I’m a new driver and I have trouble gauging the distance between the car in the lane that I’m trying to change to. How do I know that the car is slowing down and letting me into the lane?
Hi Sobia Ansari - Thank you for your comment and query. Before you start moving over, you need to shoulder check to see that the vehicle isn't moving into your blind spot. And the vehicle should NOT be getting bigger in your mirror. Have a look at the video again and watch the vehicles in the mirror and see their size there. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
Fantastic job teaching lane changes. I found that it had many more examples than most other videos and the extra cameras showing the speedometer, side view, and your profile were a great help.
Well here in holland that is not the case... here they don't give you a break to change lane and are very impatient. This is very frustrating sometimes when taking a drivin lesson or even just regular driving🙁
Hi Thyrone Williams - Thank you for your comment. And in my experience when drivers tell me that, I find that they don't put their signal on and request for other drivers to give them a space. Remember, signal are to request that you wish to move over, not that you ARE moving over. If you put your signal on early with lots of notice, most of the time other drivers will work with you and create a space...regardless of where you are in the world. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

I failed my driving test yesterday. One thing that got me was that when I change lanes and shoulder check, I tend to veer over to the right. I did that one my test yesterday and I hit the curb. My question is, how do I stop myself from veering over and help myself be more confident when driving?
Hi Madison Hawkins - Thank you for your comment. And sorry to hear about your unsuccessful attempt. We're confident with a bit more practice you'll be successful on the next attempt. One of the reasons you're likely veering to the right is due to slow shoulder checks. The vehicle goes where you're looking, and if you speed up and quickly turn your head, then you'll stop veering. Have a look at this video: ua-cam.com/video/uJ4w63wZyFQ/v-deo.html&list=PL0x-bChcUvwGBEpLkeqdis7_2SDy5gMbw&index=3 As well, have a look at this video: ua-cam.com/video/dJpMKkwEhxI/v-deo.html&list=PL0x-bChcUvwENfxb3Gsaj4ZNLWleZCNzG&index=3 If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. While waiting for your blinker to blink three times before changing lanes makes so much sense, here in the Twin Cities, MN, this signals to people here to speed up so you can't get ahead of them. It is very frustrating and so unsafe especially when you are trying to teach your teen how to drive safely.
Hi Theresa Wood - Thank you for your comment. And yes it can be frustrating, but it's important for your to keep you calm and tell your teen to let them go by and then simply merge in behind them. One of the hardest things to teach teens is to stay calm and simply say, "Oh that happened." Let those aggressive drivers have their crash somewhere else. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

Hi, you have great videos, and are a great driver. I recently got in a car accident, which was a very unexpected accident (their fault), so I’m more scared of other people’s driving. I get super anxious when someone comes too close to me, or someone changes their lane super fast in front or in back of me...My problem is how much anxiety and fear I have while I’m changing lanes/driving. I keep thinking the car in front of me is going to pound their brakes, right at that moment when I shoulder check. I also live in Los Angeles, where no one gives you the right of way and traffic is very congested. So... my question is how do I get rid of this severe anxiety? Side note *the car is brand new which makes me even more nervous and the accident i got in also plays a huge toll on my anxiety*
Hi AM - sorry to hear about your crash and anxiety. Yes, crashes are super upsetting. First, cars can be fixed or replaced - you can't. It sounds like you're OK!?! Could you do a video on highway driving, particularly changing lanes? Should one accelerate slightly to ensure a gap between you and the car that will be behind you, compensating for the possibility he me be going faster than your backward (and mirror) glance suggests, as well as in case he may unexpectedly accelerate?
Hi Andrew Maltz - Apologies for the late response. Thank you for your comment. And if you watch the end of the video, I show you how to merge on the highway. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

Hi ItsV TV - Congratulations on getting your license. We're happy to hear that the information helped out. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
So does the head check here mean mirror check?
Failing to check either of these blind spots is an accident in the making.
head check = Shoulder check
When planning to turn on right we shoulder check amd change lane and now we are at the intersection , So do we still shoulder check when finally making the right turn when there is no other lane at the right hand ???

Hey, CONGRATULATIONS!! What errors did you make
I'm 26 years old and have had severe anxiety to start driving. Luckily I lived in BC where we had great public transit. I've now moved to the states and can't survive without driving. Your videos are helping me beyond belief to get over my fears. Thank you so much!! ♥
Your me too I need a car to get anywhere bro
Mercy Mohan hey! I’ve been driving for two years now. I’d say the biggest things that helped me get past my fears were to take it at my own pace and to trust myself. The odds of you getting in an accident are slim to none, especially since if you’re anything like me you’re hyper focused to the road. You can get past these fears and it will become second nature to you! Just keep watching videos and don’t give up! You got this 🥰
Mercy Mohan I was exactly the same! You’ll get used to it, don’t worry. The main thing is being used to the feeling of driving.
"Driving is a social activity!" Great way to think of it!
Hi Marveline B. - Thank you for your comment. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

Everyone over there in Canada is so nice! When you drive over here in Germany and you want to change lanes, the other car accelerates and literally tries to prevent you from entering their lane.
Hi Jamie Lannister - Thank you for your comment. However, it's not drivers in Canada. It the strategy of driving.
Thank you for your kind words. So happy to hear that we can help out our veteran smart drivers to be professional and improve their skills. All the best my friend. Cheers Rick

I am scared to drive but your patience and calm voice helps. Hopefully I will do good this afternoon.

Just pass my full G License today by watching all your videos thanks so much.
