  • We see this type of damp proof course throughout the UK and they are normally associated with Frank Schijver. In the many years that I have been coming across this type of DPC, i have yet to see one that is actually performing any useful purpose. The target audience for this type of DPC is generally senior citizens who have seen adverts in the national press and like the fact that they do not have to remove the internal plaster (a big selling point of the installers) so it is seen as an attractive solution. In most instances, there is no rising damp present, but even where rising damp is present, these types of DPC's offer no protection. Once installed, the company says you must allow a period of up to 5 years for the internal walls to dry out although, in my experience, they have not accurately diagnosed the cause of the dampness the walls generally do not dry out at all.
    Avoid at all costs.

These were originally used in Holland where houses are sparsely located, the land is flat and the wind can thunder around, causing high levels of wind to pass through the system and allegedly dry out the walls. Fast forward to over urbanised East London, where I've seen these on estates, with brick walls and zero air flow around the property. It will come as no surprise to know the worst damp issues were found where these air bricks were located.

Dear oh dear, I didn’t know this rubbish was still peddled or at least up until so recent a time, apart from the appalling installation I will personally guarantee the guarantee for this system is worth about as much as mine.
