Hiking the Carpathian Mountain Range of Romania; Mount Omu via Cabana Malaiesti

  • We began this hike in the small town of Busteni Romania and made our way up to Cabana Malaiesti where we spent the night. This mountain cabin is in a beautiful location on the edge of forest and mountain. The next day we went to the summit of Mount Omu and then descended back down to Busteni. Being from Australia, (a very flat country) I found this hike to be challenging. It is steep in parts and there is a scramble heading towards Omu's summit from Malaiesti. As far as the scenery and the beauty goes, you cannot go wrong with this hike especially in the warmer months. Lush green forests lead to valleys of wild flowers surrounded by jagged rock faces. This was a hike I will never forget and one I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Busteni looking for an adventure.

So the mountain range is called Bucegi, the peak is called Omu (the man). Malaiesti is an incredible valley, though the cabin itself became quite the party place in the weekends...

You are a city guy as long as you don't know that all the mountains sprig water isn't from the snow but as any river spring is from the earth deepness and it's the cleanest water you can find in the world. All of this small springs united are forming the rivers all along the year no matter if it's the summer and no snow or winter but the snow isn't melting to drain. 😊But I'm happy for you to be finding the beauty of the world. Many young people are knowing the nature from the coloured screens.

As a Romanian myself, who has made it to the Omu pick, i can confirm that our Carpathians Mountains truly are special.
I love when foreigners from all over the globe come and visit my country and can’t get enough of it. ❤
If only our politicians would come up with a system that benefits everyone and not just them, Romania could be a country like no other, i really believe that.

What an incredible hiking adventure! I thoroughly enjoyed watching your journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Romania. From the beautiful trails to the majestic peaks, every moment seemed like a true adventure. The views were simply awe-inspiring, and it felt like stepping into a movie scene. I appreciated how you shared the details of your itinerary, including the town of Busteni and the cabin where you stayed. The encounters with horses and the deer added an extra touch of magic to the experience. It's evident that you both have a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors. Thank you for taking us along on this incredible hike and reminding us of the beauty that awaits us in nature. Looking forward to your next adventure!

@@pursuetheadventure, just fyi, the black goat/Alpine chamois, the largest chamois subspecies, is very timid (that`s why it was so amazing that you spotted one out in the open) and, unfortunately, very hunted as a trophy.

That's a chamois not a deer. Go high res and zoom in, the stripes on the head and ofc the lower rear legs, made for climbing. Chamois are ridiculously good at climbing almost vertical walls. Not too hard to spot in Piatra Craiului and Fagaras mountains but maybe rarer in Bucegi.

Dont be a fool and climb those mountains with the highest concentration of brown bears in Europe without a bear spray . You should watch basic bear documentaries to get an idea of their strength and speed
