- So now that the snow has finally started to thaw I thought I'd go back to one of my garnet spots to see if I could find any higher quality garnets. I also brought a gold pan with me to see if I could find any good stuff in the gravels. I should be testing a couple more creeks this week so we'll have to see what I can come across🙂

Thanks!! This is one of my favorite forests to hike in my area and this mountain is the very first mountain I ever summited which is pretty cool too. Hopefully this summer I'll be sharing some more adventures like that one😁

The specimens you collected from chiseling the rock are still beautiful and shiny if not gem quality. I really enjoy seeing how you do this and what you look for. And the creek is really beautiful too! Thank you for taking us along on a very cool hunt!
Thanks!! The garnets came out way better than I had expected!! Most are quite etched in this spot but I guess this boulder had enough biotite mica to protect them🙂

Great video! Such a nice creek. I'm also in BC and you inspired me to go to my local creek to try and find some cool rocks for the first time, (without much expectation) but I actually did find some cool looking stuffs, one if them is I think a red jasper! It was really fun and makes me want to learn even more.
That's awesome!! Jaspers are by far one of my favorite rocks, they take a polish super easy and can have so many different colors and formations!! Also there are lots of great local rockhounding groups on Facebook if you ever need help with identifying minerals.
BC Rockhunters and Vancouver Island Rockhounds are a couple of my favorites🙂

Thanks!! I'm still making plans with the camper, I've just been planning out how I want it all to work out. The charging system is mostly where I'm struggling right now, I could use a regular 12volt charger that runs off a regular 15amp plug but I'm not too sure🙂
@@NWRockExplorer do the 110 volt charger but make sure you can get to your battery to use a solar panel to charge it.
@@brucevanderzanden9638I think I'll give that a go and it takes up a little less space and is more understandable to me than the typical system. I'll definitely be putting solar in it too, it seems fairly simple to do and will help keep the battery topped up while I'm out and about. Thanks for the help😁

I have been a little busy lately but I should be getting back to that project soon. I still need to order some parts for the charging system but I think I might be able to start doing some work on the interior getting things ready. i should start pulling out the old electrical and fixing up some odds and ends🙂
Aw man I can't believe how little snow you have there, I won't be able to get out to some of my spots until march or june! Do you know why some garnets form brittle and/or cloudy? Is it impurites, poor conditions when forming, weathering? As always great video!
This is one of just a few spots I can access but I'm not complaining at all haha. We had about 2 feet of snow earlier this winter but then it started pouring out. You never know with the weather around here, the jet stream could move slightly and dump another foot on us at any time haha. About the garnets, I haven't found any good research on the formation of them I just go off of what I've seen in my sites. the more micas in the schist the better, usually too much sillimanite or quartz will bond to the outside of the garnets and make them rough. They also need very consistent heat and pressure, if they cool too fast the minerals wont have time to separate and will form with inclusions I believe🙂
