Most of the time, in my experience, Americans will thank veterans and active military for their service. It makes me feel good that Korea and America cross train between the two military forces. I like SFC Kang's self confidence and it is packaged in a very beautiful young woman. She does the ROK proud. I wish that I could afford to treat her to a full vacation tour of the USA. If a wealthy patreon reads this, why not underwrite her visit and complete an item on her bucket list. Good people deserve good things happening to them.

Well, it makes total sense that the US and Korea would cross-train. If the Korean military ever gets into a war, it will be against the DPRK/China, and the US will be fighting as well. Training together prevents a lot of unnecessary confusion and conflict between allies. It also means that personnel from either service can be used to reinforce a unit if needed and a system of command and control is already familiar to all, with (mostly) the same supplies used by all.

@Advanced Driving she is a Korean soldier in the Vietnam days where the Korean troops are in Vietnam the VC turned around and headed for the hills as fast as they could because the Korean Army personnel did not take prisoners. If you're a Korean soldier on guard duty and your sergeant found you to be asleep the sgt. would take out that Korean made 9 mm handgun put a bullet in your head. According to army and Marine personnel that I knew it were coming back from Nam. In my younger years I spent some time in Korea. but in the US, I had a Korean girlfriend for number of years and because of such I do speak Korean. In a Karen fight the first thing a Korean woman will do is attempt to scratch the other woman's eyes out. If you have not lived within the Korean community and been given a Korean nickname you do not know what it is to be Korean. When I introduced myself to a Korean person male or female I say Ang-young- hash-sha-meeka ( formal first greeting of the day); Koke-tade-em-me-da( Stork Legs😂🤣 is my name).

Seeing the wide open desert in the US must have been shocking for her to see for the first time.🌵 She would have been at the US Army's Military Freefall School, part of the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School in Yuma, Arizona. It's a joint forces training school covering all aspects of military freefall parachuting - including HALO (high altitude-low opening) and HAHO (high altitude-high opening) parachuting techniques, etc.
Students come from all military services and typically originate in elite organizations that fall under USSOCOM, such as the U.S. Army Special Forces, and Rangers, Navy SEALs, Marine Force Reconnaissance, and Air Force Para-Rescue and Combat Controllers.

My dad was a pilot in Vietnam who was saved by a Korean unit called The White Horses during one of the times he was shot down. They made a big circle around him to defend from several waves of attacks, but when he tried to use his own gun to help shoot they sat him down and handed him a beer that one of them had brought in their bag. They had apparently learned how pacify an American at some previous point, so there he sat sipping on a beer as the chaos continued all around. He said they were the most impressive soldiers he had ever seen, and either from seeing them in action or the beer kicking in he stopped feeling scared, because he had no doubt they were going to handle it (which they did as he tells it like they were just showing off). Then here this woman is so humble, but I bet she's not to be messed with lightly.

There is really nothing stopping her from joining the US military except time.
If she gets a US sponsor and then legally immigrates to the states and gets a green card, and she is otherwise qualified physically and can pass the background check for security purposes, she can join the US military. There are many non-citizens in the US military. Non-citizens in fact can earn their right to US citizenship faster than other immigrants by serving in the US miliary. However, if she joins the US Army, she might find it difficult to get into Special Forces - even with her experience - due to her inability to speak fluent English. SF needs members fluent in foreign languages but a fluent comprehension of English is needed to pass the SFAS and Q Courses.
There is a place in the US Army that might welcome her HALO experience - the US Army Parachute Team - The Golden Knights. When I was in the Army I was assigned to a unit at Ft. Bragg and I was in an airborne unit where we were required to jump about four times a year for pay purposes. I had a roommate who had about 300 free fall jumps sport parachuting before he joined the Army. He wanted to join the Golden Knights so he signed up to go Airborne so that he would be assigned to Bragg. When he arrived at Bragg, he discovered that 300 sport jumps still wasn't enough for him to qualify to try out for the Golden Knights, so he had to join a local sport parachute club and jumped every weekend for months until he had enough jumps to qualify for a tryout. He subsequently joined the Golden Knights and spent his whole Army career with them. He eventually got commissioned as an officer and, as a member and eventual captain of the team, he made many thousands of jumps before he retired.
With nearly a thousand HALO jumps, if she joined the US Army, I suspect the Golden Knights might want to talk to her about becoming a team member.

Just a comment about how big Americans are: in hand to hand combat it's likely an advantage, but in a "normal" firefight bigger is not good. A bigger target is easier to hit. I remember a comment from a WWII vet to the effect that all the big guys in his unit died first. The East Asian infantry may be small, but they definitely aren't "easy". The Gurkha infantry are small, yet they are some of the most highly respected fighters around.

Many outside the USA describe conditions in the USA they have no way of knowing are correct or true. Of course with 330 million people in the USA, isolated examples can be found for any negative behavior, but cannot be used as common behaviors of USA people. I think it's more about whether or not they go career. From what I understand only a couple years of service are mandatory, so assholes that don't value that commitment would probably be talking about people that stay by choice and are good at what they do.

in the early '70's trained a detachment South Koreans on the Nike Hercules Air Defense Radar System. First day (Friday) was a quiz to determine their level of expertise. Of the 9 ROK in my class, one poor soul scored a 68 on that quiz. On Monday, when their training commenced he showed up missing teeth, bruised all over and a broken arm! From that day on, every one of them bastards got a 100% on EVERY TEST and QUIZ. I can't begin to imagine what would have happened had they been North Koreans!!!!!

Korean military tends to be really top heavy in terms of experience because only officers stick around the military as a career-and most officers are officers because they come from a family that had officers. Most rank and file attempt to leave as soon as possible (as they are almost all non-volunteers). I’m not sure they even got around to improving the quality of food given to soldiers, at least, in the early 2010s, calling them prison-quality food might be generous.

Our instructor was adjunct professor whose day job was neurosurgeon. He claimed that Korean women were known to be, on average, the toughest group of people on Earth. Watching this sergeant bolsters that claim.

Well in the us military, we roast each other quite a bit and it can be jarring if you're not used to it. But as long you pull your weight and do hard work, we recognize those efforts. We got shitty upper leadership also that treats enlisted like crap, but then that's pretty much universal in all militaries anyway.

Korean Soldiers: *eat candy one by one*
    American Soldiers: *E A T*
Lmao. I love it. Yeah, I'd party with her.
The US has it's fair share of derogatory nicknames for soldiers. It's just that the soldiers more often than not take those very names and turns them around as a badge of honor. One of the prime examples (and perhaps most famous) is "Devil Dogs" when referring to the Marines. Germans were reasonably religious (at least up until it was outlawed when Hitler came to power) so them calling the Marines "Devil Dogs" was meant to be an insult. One, why would anyone want to be called a dog? And from hell at that? Well, the marines REALLY liked that name.

-0:56 The US Army is the only branch to pick your job title/MOS but you are a soldier and still have to pass shooting standards even in noncombat role, all Marines are trained as Infantry even with non-combat roles, and apparently, in the Airforce it is a job first. There are a lot of differences in the branches in the US Military. Anyway it would be an honor to have you join our forces, Sergeant Kang. Warrent Officers in the US Army are addressed as Mr or Mrs or they might let you call them Cheif if they are rank 2 to 5 Cheif Warrant Officer so a heads up.
