If you pop the garlic cloves into the fridge for about 2-3 weeks it can give it a fair cold snap and trick the bulbs into growing bigger. 😊 I start many of my seeds off in the fridge for a few weeks. 😊 I 😘 ve your channel so much. Didn't think of using the greens. I live in Northern California so we have the cold to grow these. You have great ideas for warmer areas.
Yes! I just took my tulip bulbs out of my refrigerator. I put them in a brown paper lunch bag and tuck them in the back of the short top shelf. They started pushing out roots and little green nobs after only 4 days. 😊
I live in So Cal and get great garlic crops. I refrigerate my bulbs for 40 days before planting. Then I prep my beds 1 week before planting and plant Oct. 31. I plant onions the same way except refrigerating them.
During C19 I had garlic in my garden and winter time just a green part part was in the ground and I was cut a piece of the green off and chew on it a couple of minutes and spit it out and swallowed the juice. I stayed pretty healthy.
Hey Robbie, I just bought some garlic. I’m gonna try putting them in water like you do. I think I’ll like the green part of the garlic. Thanks for showing us how to grow our precious garlic. ❤️
I've got bulbs that I grew last year to get planted. I grow mostly Elephant garlic and it does well in the south. I also have some bulbs left that I planted last year from store bought garlic. I've never just used the greens but like that idea. I have to get them planted ASAP.
This is my first year trying to grow garlic. So far so good the planted cloves are doing their thing without me interfering. However, I really like your method. The idea of using those leaves off the growing segment is a brilliant idea.
I love it! I'm up north, we don't get much sun in winter, and I use Aerogardens to grow greens indoors. But I could do this right next to an Aerogarden. Can't wait to try it!
You explained it very well. I had planted some garlic cloves a while ago and the plants look very green and healthy. I tried pulling them up to look for the bulbs and they were not there. Now I learned that it is because of California's sunny climate. Thank you!
Oh gosh this is amazing. I’d only harvested the garlic scapes before from hard neck and I live in east Texas zone 9a and garlic just doesn’t get very big here (even soft neck varieties) and it’s been frustrating! I like this method very much! I might even try to dry the greens and make green garlic powder! Thank you so much! No more making do with tiny bulbs. Yay! 😊I can enjoy homegrown garlic flavor the whole time they’re growing. Ingenious.
If you put your cloves in your freezer for a few days , it will split, it needs the cold to make a bulb with in dividual cloves. Putting it in the freezer will trick it into splitting. We do this all the time, especially when we have mild winters as we have had in the last few years.
This is interesting. I've had garlic I failed to use in time grow a sprouty thing and I think "oooh, I can grow this" but it doesn't work. This is helpful! Actually, I never thought about using the greens! Also like your "raised beds" on cinder blocks!
I’m forcing red tulips for the holidays. Seeing your stemware with glass beads gives me an idea. I couldn’t use a wine glass it would be too unstable for tulips, but I’m sure going to use some of dollar tree pressed clear glass bowls with the beads.
I met a woman that has garlic that’s different than the store…it comes up every year and spreads out and looks like a large green onion but is a mild tasting garlic…another elderly woman’s family have saved seeds all the way back to the 1800’s of okra…it’s the only thing that did good this year in my garden except the Tommy toe tomatoes.
Robbie I was ordering seeds and Walmart had a note that my Dog Kennel you told us about is now sold out ! That’s wild , you should get some commission !
They should be able to get more because they are getting them from Kennel Master. Keep checking on the Walmart site, they should open it up again from sale. Just the post in my past video, they do have the kennel on sale. Tomorrow I have an update with a tag on the Kennel, they are available, check the video, 😊 thanks
Robbie have your hummingbirds started to go down in population! I was running out of sugar water like crazy for a while there but seems to have slowed down considerably this week
I love your container garden idea. I watch tons of gardening videos but no one ever seems to have to deal with fire ants. Anytime I plant outside the fire ants immediately move in. I garden organically so pesticides aren’t an option. Have they ever been an issue with you?
Nice!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I live off San Francisco Bay and we don't get many chill hours either. I do this with my onions which don't bulb. Eventually, they go to seed and I get new onions. Would the garlic do the same? TYSM
Have you ever tried growing garlic in an extra fridge like the garage? LED grow lights could be kept inside on a timer for sunlight. Isn't it strange how potatoes and onions take off in the fridge? I wonder if garlic would too.
Right off the bat, I see individual garlic cloves are put into a container with "a little water"... Yet, at the beginning of the video she has a whole clove in her hand... which is it???
Fabulous Robbie. Thank you. Every video reminds me of something I need to do! Were coming into summer here, but why not have a crack at growing garlic greens!🏃🧄🙏 Oh......boring???? I'm sure none of us can keep up with you! 😂

Yes they are, hummingbirds everywhere❤️❤️❤️ Thanks

Heh I saw your post after I made mine. So was the green garlic was thicker or no?
This is what I came here to comment. It totally works!
I put some garlic in the freezer last year and forgot about it. I found it yesterday and was wondering it would still grow. It's been frozen a year.
Yes, that works perfect ❤
@@Maishu777it can grow thicker as it grows in a pot with soil
I live in a small home, travel, and have only containers... I am doing this for sure! Thank you!
I grow green onions from the store in water. I'm gonna try the garlic like that. Thanks 😊
Sounds great! I think you’ll like it❤😊
Dear Robbie thank you so much for posting even if is a small video!! I can listen to you for hours!! Thank you for making my day!! Much love 🙌🏻🤗🦋🫶🏻
You are so welcome, take care ❤thank you

During Event 201.
So cool. Thank you. I’ve been so disappointed in the garlic I tried to grow… Thank you, Bobbie!
You explain (teach) so clearly, so directly. Thank you.
This means so much to me, thank you so very much ❤️
Hey Robbie, I just bought some garlic. I’m gonna try putting them in water like you do. I think I’ll like the green part of the garlic. Thanks for showing us how to grow our precious garlic. ❤️
My pleasure ❤ enjoy😊
If you like the green part you should just grow garlic chives much easier less expensive
We planted some garlic last week for the first time 🤞
So glad you state you're from Southern Cal. this would never work where I live Western NY. thanks anyway.
Love Your hummingbird bird picture or painting.
I see you like humming birds as I do
You could never bore anyone ❤❤❤😊
OMG thank you ❤️
Thank you for sharing your experience.
My pleasure! Thanks❤️

Sounds like you are doing great, do try some of the greens, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Thanks so much.❤
Always love watching your videos.❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!❤️
Good timing, Robbie. I still use the small garlic next spring or summer. Maybe not a really big garlic head but still garlic.
That’s what I usually end up with, small garlic heads❤ Thanks and the greens are wonderful
Genius! It’s like green onions only garlic. I’m going to do this!
Oh yes, It's so good! 😊❤️
Grow green garlic all year long,. I don’t care about the large cloves. I dehydrate them and I have garlic 🧄
Wonderful thank you for sharing❤
Thanks. I’m going to grow some garlic now.
Go for it! 😊
Thanks, Robbie - I want to try this as soon as I can find some organic garlic in the store!
If you can find USA garlic, organic or not, that would be worth a try 😊❤️
This is my first year trying to grow garlic. So far so good the planted cloves are doing their thing without me interfering. However,
I really like your method. The idea of using those leaves off the growing segment is a brilliant idea.
Do both, grow some in a flower pot separate just for the greens😊 and let the others grow fully❤
Thank you so very much! Joy joy joy to see this vid. Can now plant garlic at last, the easy way. 🙏🏼♥️🌺🌴🇵🇭
I loved this video!
Thank you ❤️😊

Fellow gardener here in zone 6.
Your garden is beautiful. 😊
You are so welcome! Thank you fellow Gardener😊
Now I know to check that garlic didn't come from China...Thanks so much! You are never boring!❤❤❤❤❤

Thanks for sharing. No luck growing softneck garlic in zone 9, Arizona. I will try your suggestion. Best,
You can this way for wonderful garlic greens, that have the same nutrition as the bulbs😃

Thank You. I have been wanting to plant some garlic. Thanks again!
Gilroy, California, is a fantastic place to learn about growing.
Yes, they are very north of us, we have driven through there years ago, you can smell the garlic 😊 there
buy seed garlic that store garlic is sprayed with citric acid which is organic to keep it from maturing
thank you
Thank you ❤️
thank you for sharing
Wow! I'm going to try this! Ty.
Central Texas here.❤🙏

Where have you two been Been looking for your site. How is the doggie. Good to see you again.
Garlic is good to grow with roses 🌹
The squirrels love to dig mine up
Thanks. Great video
I need your help with growing green onions!!! They are so fickle to me - need to use container gardening either in or out.
Have you tried putting it in the bottom drawer of the fridge a month or so before planting it? That's what I do before planting
😊❤ HI ROBBIE

Good
When should I grow garlic on the northcoast of California. zone 9b
I'm in zone 9 as well, you need to get your garlic in now.
You should have already stored the garlic in the fridge for 5weeks for cold stratification.
Hi Robbie!
Hi Jackie❤
Try putting it in the fridge for a couple weeks before you plant.
Robbie have your hummingbirds started to go down in population! I was running out of sugar water like crazy for a while there but seems to have slowed down considerably this week
Can I plant the garlic on the ground.?
do the leaves also have allicin? Or can you just get that from the bulb?
My question too.🙏😊🇨🇦👍
thank U

Alicin in the greens?
YES, we found it is in the greens too
Garlic leaves have More antioxidants than the glove.
❤❤❤
Thanks ❤️
🌻💖🌻
FYI they do not iradiate garlic bulbs
They do some and they are allowed to, to extend the shelf-life, imported garlic is irradiated
Put in the fridge
Try freezing your garlic frist then plant.
Good tip for hardneck type, thanks
Your ears must be itching. I was just going to aak about growing garlic
Have you ever tried growing garlic in an extra fridge like the garage? LED grow lights could be kept inside on a timer for sunlight. Isn't it strange how potatoes and onions take off in the fridge? I wonder if garlic would too.
Cold stratified but still needs heat to grow then, can actually grow in the fridge. It might sprout but that's bout it.
Better on a window sill, potatoes and onions only Start to grow, but need sunlight to actually grow well
Right off the bat, I see individual garlic cloves are put into a container with "a little water"... Yet, at the beginning of the video she has a whole clove in her hand... which is it???
I do it both ways, either way works great, easier to plant once separated 😊
Put it in the refrigerator. Fool it into thinking it went through winter .
The shoots can be too strong for some dishes.
Fabulous Robbie. Thank you. Every video reminds me of something I need to do! Were coming into summer here, but why not have a crack at growing garlic greens!🏃🧄🙏
