I remember when ppl hated on Xiao when he originally was gonna release, they either just wanted Ganyu or Hu Tao and Xiao was the main character I wanted to main so I promised to give him EVERYTHING. I triple crowned him on his birthday, I prioritized him the most especially when it comes to artifacts, pulled C2 Kazuha just for him, finally got his signature weapon off standard. It's crazy how much he got buffed while Ganyu didn't get anything and u barely even see ppl play her anymore or even talk about her anymore, and I remember how satisfying it was that Xiao kept getting buffs.
When i used to play Genshin i really wanted to become a Xiao main i just found his aesthetic and gameplay to be so cool. Sadly that day never came i lost interest in the game before his rerun banner could come, seeing however that he has a very good place in the meta puts a smile on my face though :)
I'm a 1.0 phase 2 Genshin player (started on Klee banner). I don't have Furina or Xianyun, but Xiao is my only C6 5-star in any gacha game. When he was first shown in the story quest, I absolutely fell in love with the character, and I played in the original CN dub up until Neuvillette & Wriothesley's release (I am a huge fan of Ray Chase and Joe Zieja) because I felt that until recently, Xiao's EN dub voice was just not capturing his character in the way Kinsen did (though it has improved a ton since the early days). I have a C6 Faruzan, and I actually like running Xiao with C6 Kuki Shinobu as my healer. For shields, I use Zhongli or Layla. I'd like to one day have a C6 Zhongli for the heals (he's C3 right now, again from sheer luck over 2 banners LOL), and he's a top 1% Zhongli on the Akasha (NA). I'd love to one day get my Xiao into that top 1% spot too (he's at top 27% rn, RIP T^T), but farming Vermillion has been my bane. Even if it's SO easy to clear with C6 Xiao (it takes me less than 30 seconds most of the time), neither it or the strongbox have blessed me yet with the godly stats I need to take him to the next level. One day, I will get my Xiao up into the 1% like he deserves!!! I'm just sad that his best teams are all so premium, and that his skill auto-targeting is STILL wonky, which often makes his C6 go to waste. The one REAL buff he needs more than anything is fixing his damn targeting on his E!!!!!
now we need buffs for Kequing and Cyno (like a new set for Quiken, a support for Quiken, and maybe release starseeker for Kequing) (and we need less bosses to make Cryo and maybe Venti shine)
I was saying make Diluc great again for a long time. Thanks to plunge teams, he is. Xiao gets buffed a lot, but I find he's very high investment for what he does. His best team today, IMO would be Faruzan (C6), Xianyun, and Furina. That's a lot of pulls to bring him up to present META. So you can do all that... or you can pull Arlecchino, Alhaitham or Neuvillette. Or you can run National/International team, or you can run hyper bloom... I hope I've made my point. It's a shame because I WANT TO LIKE Xiao... I just can't because he's too high maintenance.
That's all good and fine but ppl have to remember that Xiao is a 1.3 character first and foremost (and also a hypercarry in a game centered around elemental reaction). It just makes total sense that to make him competitive you have to put more effort in than newer characters otherwise how would Hoyo sell their products? It's a blessing that Xiao as old as he is is still competitive and be one of the best carry in this game, can't say the same for quite a few others tbh.
