LIFEJACKETS!! Everybody, all the time. It doesn't make any difference if you are an olympic swimmer or not, if you go over the side and bang your head etc then you'll be dead before your amateur crew can get the boat turned round and alongside - and have the ability to get you out of the water. Having been at sea for fifty years or so, and seen the tragic results of not wearing suitable kit, I don't want to see you or your family faced with such a challenge for the sake of wearing lifejackets. Good wishes..

Hi Jeremy, We totally understand where you are coming from regards the lifejackets. As a rule we do make the little two wear the lifejackets at all time unless they are asleep, they are not allowed anywhere up the front without a jacket on and certainly not without an adult. They are not allowed out of the cockpit in rough weather or when the sea state makes it unsafe for them to be walking around outside the cockpit.
As for adults its a very personal preference with wearing them. We tend to say that again if the sea is rough then we are to wear them. When we are on passage then would will certainly be wearing them and 110% on night passages it goes without saying that we will be wearing them, again with the walking around the boat if we feel its unsafe to walk around then jackets will be worn.
We aren't in this for taking risks but we tend to take calculated risks if we don't feel safe we don't do it. We understand that things at sea can change in a split second and understand your feelings around Lifejackets.

My husband drowned through not wearing a lifejacket when he was coming up the river to his mooring on a solo sail. Perfect weather, no swell. Slipped wbhen trying to hook his buoy. WEAR ONE! Even if I had been there it would not have made any difference. And do not drink when in charge......so wrong in every aspect

Totally understand where your coming from with life jackets. As for drinking while in charge she wasn't in charge I was standing next to her out of frame.

First sail out very good. So why is the lady steering the boat drinking wine and I presume that is yourself taking 2 young children to the bow. Sorry I cannot get my head around it. WHY

The ‘lady’ sailing the boat wanted a quick go at the helm as it was her first time sailing her own boat, she was supervised at all time as she doesn't have a skipper licence yet. And yes I was the one taking the two children who were tethered to the boat with jacklines and with life jackets on to the bow of the boat, who are also very confident on the water and moving around the boat. If it had been rough they wouldn't of been coming out of the cockpit. We are not the kind of parents that will lock the children in the cockpit seats or even make them stay in the saloon when sailing they are on the boat to experience sailing and enjoy themselves but we also are not parents that would put our children at risk.
