Sangtiennoi Sor Rungroj is a huge Muay Thai legend who fought some of the biggest names in the 80s and 90s, known as the golden era of the sport. Fighters back then were made of a different breed. Training was brutal, competition was intense, everyone was exceedingly hungry, and raw talent was aplenty. Fights back then were legendary battles with a showcase of beautiful techniques and immense heart, wars that are still talked about today. After his retirement, Sangtiennoi continues to pass on his love for the sport as a trainer. Notable names he’s trained with include Australian Muay Thai legend John Wayne Parr, and Japanese MMA veteran Enson Inoue. Our interviewer visited Sangtiennoi’s home gym in the outskirts of Bangkok, where he shared candid stories about his life as a top prized fighter. You also get to meet some interesting characters in his gym. ------ This project is part of a documentary series started by Angie, a Muay Thai enthusiast based in Singapore (follow her on IG to support her works): instagram.com/angiewon9 A: “I am fascinated with the stories of old, and I love retelling these stories. When these ex-fighters share their stories with me, I feel like I’m transported into the past, watching from the side as it unfolds. I want to know the little details - what was life like, how they felt, why they made that choice etc. I want to document these legends as HUMAN. People who are afraid when fighting their idols, and who also had to deal with disapproval from their parents. People whose fears, dreams and motivations we can all identify with. Knowing that they are human just like us, is a reminder that we too, can be like them. I would love to interview more ex-fighters and legends of the sport, and I hope you’ll join me in their stories of hope, fear, laughter, sadness, and inspiration.” ------ Check out my upcoming book Legendary Striking (60 pages free): www.legendarystriking.com If you'd like to see the full transcript of my technical breakdowns and additional details, sign up to my mailing list. each time i watch a documentary on one of these past champions im amazed at how fierce they are in the ring and at the same time so so so humble outside of the ring. To see them outside and listen to them speak and just their overall demeanor , you'd never know how deadly they are in the ring if you'd never seen them fight before. Amazing people these Thai fighters. True combatants, sportsmen and gentlemen. Another great video Kenshin. Thank you
I have been lucky enough to have learned some muay thai but at 41 and with my kids needing me to let go a bit I have started training in this art more seriously . It is so difficult and my kicks are so slow in comparison to the killers but my spirit is inspired and is dragging me.
This was beautifully done.... and much love to Angie for a killer interview.... felt very human, which seems appropriate for such a fine example of humankind.... after the fights, this dude kissed his opponents to apologize for the violence inevitably found in the sport.... and I love the way he lights up when he talks about how much he loves Muay Thai.... how can you not love this guy?... Similarly, you can tell a lot of passion goes into your content brother.... I’ve been watching for what seems like an eternity now... and I’ve never once been disappointed.... not only are the uploads great to watch, but I can’t even explain how much I’ve grown in my training because of you....... let me take this chance to say thank you for the insane amount of quality entertainment you have given me over the years👏👏👏👏👏✊️✊️👌👌... once I get my mailing address sorted out, I’m going to order your book... if the book was made with the same time and care you put into this channel, which I’m sure you did.. so it will be fcking amazing and I can’t wait to get copy... thanks again my friend!..🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏✊️✊️ respect! As long as I’m here, you’ll always have family here on Maui brother... all my people are behind you... may you rise to feel the sun on your face and the wind at your back 🙏🙏🙏🙏✌️✌️✌️
I trained here in May 2022. It is about 1 hour from (downtown) Bangkok. One of the greatest experiences in my Muay Thai journey. It is pure and authentic. Loved the dogs and goats roaming around inspecting my form while I was training.
What a sweet and humble man Seengtiennoi is; and great to see has his own gym and is passing on a legacy, especially when many former greats and top-ranked fighters disappear from Muay Thai.
All these coaches and trainers have so much love for this. So much power in the ring but so humble outside, so soft spoken. They remind me of the "warrior in a garden.. " quote... My deepest respect.
You gotta love the man’s passion and joy for the sport/art, his humility, and his gratitude for his teacher and fellow nak muay. A forever Student/teacher of Muay Thai, but having experience that leans him toward a certain mindset that was handed down to him and refined for him by him. Now the style he is thankful he learned from his teacher’s and his experience that allowed him a sound mind and working body in such a brutal sport is the same style he wants to share with his students. Forward, forward. No tired. Straight knee. No fall down. Win no tired. Great story that continues on today. Good stuff. I love these kinds of documentaries!
Best interview👌...this interview with Sangtiennoi ,for myself it conjures up alot of positive & negative memories, "the deadly kisser" was a hero for myself as teenager in early 90s (when all others of my age followed traditional western sports) as I would have VHS tapes sent or fight newspapers trying to keep track( before internet)...i created the window when I isolated myself & submerged immediatetly training daily directly with Thais to the point of full time ... lifes dice got rolled & felt cruel for timing but Muay Thai still influenced life in many positive aspects.....once it's concentrated in your blood for that long it never disappears....❤Muay Thai
What a brilliant documentary. And such a humble man. Giving all the credit to his teacher, but his teacher will be so proud of this man.keep up the excellent work.
I love this, so so much respect for these golden era fighters. So much ridiculously talented fighters at the same period of time. Their humility grounds me each and every time. Glad he mentioned dekkers because let's face it he was just so exciting to watch, even getting a permanent reminder in the form of a scar I'd be beaming with pride to show off, an it was beautifully set up splitting his guard right down the middle after one of his famous combinations. The deadly kisser, what a great man, you are a legend 🙏
Woaw! Such an inspiring human being : healthy spirit, great heart and sportmanship. You will help me growing as a Muay Thai practicer. I recently accept that this sport is pure art and respect. For so many years I felt that it was intriguing to me. Now I know why! I would have love to meet you, RIP teacher. "I no fight, I copy him style". ;-) That is a promiss, but I will only train for respect of this art. Thanks for this channel!
Thank you for your time in putting these many fight clips together. Fighting’s much more than simply fighting it’s a way of life. A lifelong journey into self.
I only knew a little bit about Sangtiennoi through some of his fights. I now see his philosophy on Muay Thai is just as powerful as his performances in the ring. Thank you very much for this beautiful video that gives a fuller insight of this legend.
Honest laugh and smile, nonchalant, humble, friendly, and fun to talk to!! That until you're in the ring with him at his prime. Those Thai legends are indeed have a big heart. Just like in many Kenshin videos that I have watched so far. They will live forever. My hats to all of you great ones. 🙇🙇🙇
I am from Holland and i am a real fan of Ramon Dekkers. But this man his style i love it to watch. For sure 1 of the best Muay thai fighter of all time. And 1 of the best from Thailand and from the world at that time. Thai boxers at that time was another level. A great legend is Sangtiennoi.
I first heard of the idea of “good genetics” from exposure to lifiting, where we usually mean a person with the natural ability to put on muscle or to progress to heavier weight in a shorter time. When he said he could goInto a sixth round of pad work and still have power, that put a whole new perspective in my mind about what consitutes “good” 🤯 lol. Thats actually amazing to me that he can do that 🙏 respect from USA
This is exact same type gym I was at in Pattaya back in the 80s. I was a US boxer open class and went to Thailand in the Navy. Had several fights some exhibition and some real. I have never saw fighters with better balance than the Thai fighters. They keep coming.
I heard the news recently-RIP champ :( And thank you Lawrence Kenshin for educating me of these great fighters and more importantly amazing and humble human beings throughout the years.
Dude....best video displaying a persons love for the art. I hope to begin training Muay Thai as soon as I can find a gym but if I follow people jogging here in New Mexico we will end up in a old folks home.

A legitimate legend . RIP Kru
The final segment where he talks about the training philosophy of power out and power back, It's brilliant.
It really is
Yes! Lovely!
This was the most valuable bit of philosophy I took out of this very inspirational story.
And bodybuilders talk about overtraining lol
Same for Russian fighter Fedor Emelianenko, more you take out, more you get. Same moto. Respect to all fighters!

So cool to get a glimpse of Thai mentality. Sangtienoi speaks good English.
I practice Muaythai Boran. I learned from his words

wise words
