Joey, I heard this on LBC and was so mad at Ferrari’s arrogant intimidation that I dropped him an email as follows. Needless to say, he hasn’t responded. “Nick, I have to say that I was absolutely disgusted with your attitude this morning during your conversation with Joey Carbstrong concerning animal abuse. At 66 yrs of age I am not a youngster or one that would storm into a restaurant but I will never eat meat again having witnessed the horrifying scenes of slaughter. For you to say “it’s just a pig” when they have the intelligence comparable to a 3 yr old child was reprehensible. They feel the same pain that you and I do. As much as I agree with you on most topics, I am afraid that on this you are quite ignorant and extremely insensitive to the horror these animals go through. Not one animal wants to die and the fear in their eyes is heart breaking as are their screams - go visit a slaughterhouse and listen. And what I found unforgivable is that you could actually sit there and laugh at it. You should be ashamed of yourself. May I suggest you do some proper research and go watch them being killed and then we’ll see if you find it funny. It seems that although you tried to make fun of him in a very childish way, Joey Carbstrong is the better man.”

Sheep wouldn't have so much wool in the first place if it wasn't for humans unnaturally breeding them that way. Also fkystrike wouldn't be an issue either. For him to make out he's doing sheep a favour is ridiculous. Also sheep are beaten punched thrown around and brutally cut when sheared. I wish Joey brought up these points.

Sbeast You missed the part where he talked about poop sticking to sheep's tails and wool and attracting flies so flies could literally lay eggs on the poop infested tails or wool of a sheep.
Even as a vegan, I would say the sheep should be sheared. A lot of sheep are unfortunately producing way too much wool that most of it won't shed because humans have already bred those sheep to produce as much as wool as possible. What's to become of the sheep at that point? Just let them continue to grow uncomfortable amounts of wool and risk getting invaded by flies as fly larvae eat their assholes while they are alive? That sounds incredibly cruel. As a vegan you should be against that. I am.
Sheering sheep is necessary unfortunately. A lot of sheep produce too much wool to shed most of it. Can't believe vegans would turn a blind eye to sheep being uncomfortable and in pain.

The part when he said "it's a pig" made me rage! How someone can be so emotionally desensitised to the suffering of a beautiful living being is beyond me. I think considering the fact he was rude and condescending you handled yourself fantastically my friend.

Joey you did good buddy. I'm a committed vegan, but looking at the interview dispassionately for a second, to people outside the UK this guy Nick Ferrari is up there with Piers Morgan, and their "trade" is to ask probing questions. NB The whole premise was to ensure that everything focused on meat and NOT dairy. You have to give it to Nick Ferrari he has seen how Philip Schofield and Piers Morgan were Carbstronged and his one success was there was no opportunity for the topic ever to hit cheese, whey, cream, milk etc. You know this.

That guy was totally inconsiderate. Worse than any restaurant disruption. Direct action is Necessary. I agree there are nicer less disruptive ways to get the message across to people but direct action is not just causing disruptions during people's precious meals. Direct action is just speaking up against injustice wherever you may see it. It is about opposing oppression and not remaining quiet when you bear witness to hypocrisy and apathy. Our silence makes us complicit to the violence. Even if it makes people uncomfortable to hear this and be interrupted while they're eating dead bodies, at least they are being given the opportunity to think critically about their own actions when being directly confronted about it. Yea, I think it is awkward af but no great change ever came from allowing the public to stay within their comfort zones. As long as it doesn't hurt anybody there is no wrong way to spread this plea for mercy.

That's how I explain to nonvegans how I feel about animals being slaughtered.

The press is so powerful in its image-making role, it can make the criminal look like he's a victim and make the victim look like he's the criminal. --Malcolm X
Someone's evening experience is not more important than an animal's life. You can't expect us to follow these civil laws when you and the people inside that restaurant are violating the very essence of justice, that is so hypocritical. You're asking people to follow the law (which was created to prevent injustice from happening) when you yourself are actively taking part in the greatest injustice that's ever been perpetrated in the history of civilization.
Justice and animal rights outweighs property rights and civil duties, period. It becomes necessary and vital for activists to violate unjust laws in order to restore justice.

The fact that sheep can't molt naturally because they grow a harmful amount of wool, and that human intervention is needed through sheering should be a source of deep shame. We've genetically bred animals into illness for our own benefit. the same can be said for dairy cows who produce more milk than their calves can drink, and thus need our intervention. And for hens who lay so many eggs that they have an increased risk of ovarian cancer, osteoporosis and egg binding.

    *Advice for activists*
We need conversations* on Veganism, not arguments*.
Arguments will never change the other persons view because arguments are always based on who wins & who loses the argument! And no one ever wins an argument because the only way u win is if the other person changes & sides with u. (And why would u side with someone who is yelling and getting angry with u)
When we argue, all it does it make the other person extremely defensive & bring their ego out. That’s exactly what happened in this video. That guy will never change or go Vegan because Joey came off angry and the interviewer became defensive now if he ever goes Vegan that means he’s lost. Losing is a pain to his ego. So instead he just says ignorant remarks like ‘Its just a pig’ etc.
If u remain calm and simply have a conversation and try to explain why you view things the way u do the other person will feel a lot more willing to be able to side with u. If u argue and get angry he’ll get defensive and never change.
If you’re going to be an activist, please don’t go around being angry and yelling at meat eaters it wont change a thing. Imagine yourself however long ago when you were eating meat, how would u want to be approached on veganism? By someone angry and yelling at u because you’re uneducated on the topic? Dont get mad at someones views if they don’t understand it in the first place. Educate them instead

I deleted my first comment because I noticed I'd made an error. Honestly, this debate was irritating from both sides. You both were interrupting each other which is obviously frustrating, but I will admit I've seen you do so much better, Joey. I know with interviews like these, there is an urgency to get your message heard and when the host goes on their own tangent, it's like you can't get your words in, but literally yelling into your phone and constantly interrupting him still doesn't do your side of the argument any justice. Cool, calm, collected is the key and it seemed like you let your passion for the cause really get to you, which is obviously understandable!
Also, sometimes you have to let the other side finish what they're actually saying, and then come back with something along the lines of what the other person was talking about. That was another things that I noticed - for quite a while he was wanting to talk about sheep and you were like "but steak though"....I was like, what?! Then by the time you were actually willing to talk about it, he was fed up with you and muted you. I'm sure throughout everything you've been doing these past weeks that you're exhausted and burnt out and that's what I'm going to chalk this up to because you're SO much better than this one little moment! (And obviously that guy was a douche) Keep up the amazing work that you've been doing and take care of yourself too! ✌🏼❤️

I think Joey sensed early in the interview that the interview framing his question in a dishonest way to make him look bad. If Joey stayed "calm", he wouldn't have the opportunity to state any of his arguments.
Biased interviewers sometimes use "yes or no" questions as an slick way to set up an opponent to lose an argument.
Also, when it's just an interview, the interviewer is supposed to be in control of the conversation but when it turns into a debate that all changes. He must take some control back unless there is an unbiased moderator.

@@keithh23 IMO the best way to gain control with someone like that is to let them get out whatever they want to say...then when they're done, calmly state your side. He didn't even attempt to approach the yes or no thing and kind of went on about something else. When someone asks a yes or no question like that and there is no yes or no answer, you say something like "I can't say yes or no to this. Do you want to know why?" then they're like "Yeah!"
and the floor SHOULD be open at that point. Sometimes you have to speak to immature people (i.e. the host) like a child and spell it out for them...otherwise they'll tune you out if you just start blabbering on and on. I think Joey knows all of this already because he's been doing this for so long and he's an amazing debater. I think he let this situation get the best of him...and that's okay. We're all humans just trying to do our best for the animals!!

@@chelseathorne4352 you are right in most situations but I've seen that approach backfire and I'm sure Joey has also. This happens on talk radio all the time. The host drives the conversation and misrepresents your position early and when it's time to clearly stay your position time runs out or the interviewer moves on.
Many movements use different tactics to progress. The preferred method is always the best for every situation. Sometimes the best method isn't polite.

"Do you support protests such as these ?" Joey should have replied with no, I prefer the type of protests I am currently involved with, some of which you may have seen ? Question then goes back to Ferrari. Ferrari gets obsessed with trying to get a yes or no. Just reply with no , it would have weakened Ferrari and changed the dynamics. Unfortunately the interview then descended into Joey having to fall-back on the pig/dog, taste/life verbatim and give Ferrari an excuse to joke about sausages and tasteless salmon. With the sheep debacle maybe just answer yes , it's necessary because we've domesticated them , what I don't agree with is breeding them into existence in the first place. Use wild sheep and goats as an example. This is a good one for Joey to reflect on.
