CSGuitars this V is absolutely gorgeous
(If folks are wondering what to do with the old bridge hole maybe go for a kill switch or just plug it with a bit of dowel)
Pretty nice guitar. Looks really nice. :D
I was wondering if you could do a TATA on Wah-pedals? I'm not sure what they do and how they do it.
Hi Colin ! ;)
Very beautifull, Unique guitar and personnal upgrades !!
Nice fucking job and choice :)
maybe also see :
Tuning machine or just tuning keys ( Gold keys and full black machine ? )
cover pickups ( relic brass finish ? with black pole )
knob potentiometer ( more personnal choice, no plastic gibson :) )
and yesterday on other video I left you a question ;)
' How to measure mA for 'each output line' power supply ?
'
I want to know how much is worth to miliiamper each output.
Manufacturers announce values, but I want to check to be certain.
Safely.
Thanks
When you drill a hole you should stop 3/4 of the way through then turn it over and go the other way. That’s how you avoid blow out
I work in a machine shop...anyone can be a machinist when things go right. The true mark of a great machinist is being able to unfuck things when they go wrong :)
"Cockup Cascade" is my new favorite phrase.
My new corporate buzzword
Stateside would be FUBAR; or my favorite, the less common "shit avalanche".
great name for a punk band lmao
Dang, I missed this! Looks so good man.
I think it's better that skilled practitioners like you should show when things go wrong. That way those of us without the time, practice and skills that come from them know that we'll cock it up sometimes but it can be fixed as long as we think it through. Thanks again for sharing this is awesome.
Why not find a piezo pickup that could be installed in the old bridge hole? Give a little extra flavour when you want it.
Metal only, no need for that cuck pickup
@@SRNF lmao
good idea, can be like the John Petrucci models
SRNF what does that even mean?
Great idea 👍
That whiskey pouring scene was priceless. We’ve all been there!
Looks fenomenally good, but would age the shiny gold parts to fully complete the look. Fantastic job tho:)
FYI, you could've used the plunge router base for your Dremel to drill pilot holes for those ferrules and get them perfectly square to the top and back. Should just about be possible to get a 3mm bit all the way through. Mark the exit holes and use the scalpel to score a 3mm square centred on those marks to minimise blowout, especially if you put some tape around the bit to mark where it's about to punch through and ease up on the drilling pressure just before you go all the way through. A 3mm pilot hole would be perfect to centre the brad points on the larger bits you use on the hand drill and keep them aligned as you drill through to the final diameters. Also, drilling the ferrule recesses in the back first and then drilling through from the top would also ensure that any blowout would happen inside the recesses rather than marring the back as you did here, and as long as you did the pilot hole first then both holes should be well aligned.
needs a brass switch tip!!
Along with brass covers and tuners, imo. Otherwise, a seriously badass conversion.
Oh yes,I wish my les Paul could look as cool
@@soul-6323 - It can, just do what he is doing! I recently purchased a 2014 Gibson Les Paul that someone tried to refinish, they did a horrible job btw. But I have always wanted a Gibson Les Paul Standard or custom but my wallet only allows for the Studio models, which are great guitars but they just don't have all the fancy stuff on them. So I got this Les Paul Studio for a great price, $400!! and decided to make it my pet project and create my own Les Paul custom, I did not put binding on the body though. To make it a truly "custom" guitar I decided to cut in a belly comfort cut. I have seen this done on other style guitars but not on a Les Paul. But I decided to gamble with it and give it a shot. When I got my cut almost down to the depth I wanted guess what I found? You know how Gibson does that weight relief stuff? Yeah, where I was making the comfort cut the mahogany had been hallowed out so I ended up with a hole now that was about 5 inches long and running right through the middle of my belly cut lol. After some fancy fill work I am glad to say that the guitar is now in the process of having the Nitro clear coat applied and should be ready for full and final assembly in a couple of weeks and you cannot even tell what happened in the comfort cut. Live and learn and make mistakes, but in the end it's all fun and rewarding. So to you I say, purchase some brass pieces and start customizing your own Les Paul.
i always wanted onem myself and i saw a 2013 tribute goldtop in a pawnshop so i boguth it,now the finish is flaking off and turnign green adn tis desperate for new frets,i jsut dont even have money for a pickgaurd at the moment
@@soul-6323 - A lot of people like it when those gold tops start turning like that, it's now vintage. I have a white Les Paul that is yellowing and everyone who sees it thinks it's cool because of the yellowing. I guess I am weird, If I buy a white guitar, 20 years later I don't want a yellow guitar lol. I have yet to do any work with frets but have the tools and I do have one guitar is in need of some fret work so it will be my first victim lol. If I felt more comfortable in my skills I would do the fret work for ya for nothing other than you pay the shipping fees, but right now I would not do it for fear I would end up having to replace your guitar lol.
Def leppard and Saxon in one video? That's awesome! Nice guitar too, absolutely unique and beautiful!
Damn, talk about making something your own. She's a beauty. A level of customization I would never have thought of.
Best looking Gibson V I've ever done seen

That's a mighty fine looking axe you've got there Colin! Wowza!
That looks absolutely killer.
Thank you CSG! This is one of the most professional videos I have had the pleasure of watching on YT: from the stellar A/V, to the content, and the delivery. Bravo - cheers!
That looks amazing now. Nice mods.
I love the Pictish designs on the pickguard. Very cool.
Looks awesome
Also appreciate the cheeky bit of Denim & Leather in the demo
That fret inlay is sick as hell! Gorgeous looking mods.
Bloody fantastic video!
I hope this turns into a series of upgrade projects because it's so interesting to see what a bit of imagination and skill can produce.
I'd love to see you really getting into aftermarket upgrades because even the small stuff can add that personal touch to your guitar but all we ever hear of is installing new pickups or tuners
Colin, this is an incredible guitar. One of the best looking "V" guitars I have seen. Congratulations!!
Good job Col. Looks the biz man!
This is the best video you've ever made. That guitar looks and sounds incredible. Presentation was top-notch. Thank you my brother
Dam those brass pieces look sweet, and it sounds great love the growl
Looks suuuuuper cool, and it does have more bite to the sound, which I think it's great.
Congrats on it!
Damn, thats some nice engravings.
SAXON!!
It was YOU that set the spirit free!
Beautiful upgrades.
Thanks for including that Linde riff! He’s honesty the most underrated metal guitarist of the last 20 years.
Looks and sounds amazing!!
That brass/dremel trick is awesome!!!
Awesome vid! Well done!
Great job, only just found this channel and like others I think the overall look and importantly sound is now fantastic. Especially appreciate that you have shown the errors and learning points - real life is so important rather than the edited perfection that you often see. Well played!
Favourite guitar of yours now, love the black and gold
That looks awesome. Thx for the vids. Always good info
Been looking forward to this video for ages. Definitly worth the wait, the guitar looks beautiful
Didn't expect suddenly hearing HIM. Guitar looks amazing, really cool to see the process!
Man, that thing is beautiful. Your videos are always inspiring, but this one triggered my drool reflex.
That string butler/truss rod cover thing is GENIUS, and looks amazing!
that "i don't wanna stop" riif just killed me!!!!!!! nice dude
Love the way it's turned out and that trick with the dremmel brass wheel and heating the screws is something I'll have to remember!
first of all, I like your tone more and more and your playing as well, really spot on... as for the guitar, I just realized it's giving me "Hurricane" vibes of nostalgia, but it looks and sounds even better! Hope we're gonna see it often, the look is seriously great and I love how you take every detail into account and try to make things tidy
That guitar looks sick! And nice to hear some HIM 🤘🏻 cheers from Finland!🇫🇮
Brilliant job
That V looks fantastic. But even more so the sound is outstanding! It was great before but now it sounds tighter and more responsive. Good show, Colin!
I think that truss rod cover with the string guides turned out super well, in addition to the rest of the new hardware. I always dig that black and brass look. Great job!
Beautiful! Just beautiful!
That has to be the most beautiful Flying V I have ever seen. Good work.
Nice work - I want one!
One of the most beautiful guitars that I've ever seen
THAT. LOOKS. AMAZING!
This video is awesome! That inlay is really cool and I was mesmerized watching you put it in (thats what she said)
I think that guitar just looks amazing! It sounds really good too! Love your videos, keep it up! M
Looks cool. Sounds killer.
The Guitar looks fantastic. It makes me want to pick up a V and do something similar to it. please keep us updates as you do the final finishing work, even if just with short update videos
Bonus points for the Balvenie Double Wood 12. My favorite.
Beautiful build, definitely a super project. Not a hundred percent sure about the impact of the string through design on the tone, but the V bridge looks totally epic. Really appreciate your honesty about all the different parts of the build, whether they fell together perfectly or fell apart. It's great for guitar modders and makers alike to see that setbacks are a common thing. Keep the vids coming!
Ho my goodness!!! You have built an unbelievably beautiful instrument Son, nice work. I have enjoyed your You Tube movies for a while now but I am compelled to comment on this one. Not only was it informative, it showed me what kind of man you are. It is one thing to do a build with artfulness and purpose but to also show the mistakes and frustrations along the way takes a strong self esteem. I see an honesty and true to self that few have shown to me in many years. (With except for my boys, I’m lucky there) To find the time to make the movies and tackle a big task such as this also shows the ability schedule, follow through, and time management. I am sure your folks are very proud of you and your accomplishments. Keep up the great work an stay true. Play on.
Sincerely, Pops Fitch
Guitar looks beautiful
It a a majestic look man
Wow, that is stunning.
Big props on using the orange drop and string butler. I use both on my Les Pauls.
Mark out where your holes start on top, then mark the holes from underneath. Drill SMALL pilot hole from underneath, about 10mm into the wood. Drill ferule holes into the wood, but start the drill in reverse, gently, then forwards. Lastly drill your holes from the top, being careful not to follow through when they meet up with your ferule holes. I made exactly the same mistakes. Hindsight is wonderful! :-)
Highly impressive upgrade overall but level of craftsmanship you showed off in the inlay portion of the project what killer dude! Sicc axe dude...
In my opinion you completely thrashed that fine instrument, the Gothic V is perfect from the factory.
Oh man. I LOVE that guitar! BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for the informative video! :)
That truss rod string butler is brilliant!
Looks amazing.
I love the design. I'm not normally a fan of brass, but this one looks like a perfect fit. Sounds great too. Win
Amazing. The guitar sounds and looks wicked. The trick with the brass brush is sweet. I have a strat type guitar built from parts in which i installed a vintage Guild HB1 pickup which is gold; this method will work great for the pickup and pickguard screws. Thanks for a great video.
Awesome video,
I will have to try some of these mods on my 06 epiphone gothic V
Looks banging mate
That looks SO killer, Colin! That tip on turning the hardware brass colored with the wire wheel is fucking brilliant, BTW!
Pictish iconography and fossils?
God that is an incredible combo for decorating your Flying V. I love these customizing vids. Good work.
