  • Wanting a greater sense of realism in your drawings? The drawing techniques we use in a scene are an effective way to turn our 2D paper into a 3D experience! This video demos and describes a really effective technique to achieve this.

That was a wonderful demonstration of how to tackle a complex scene where the foreground could easily dominate the composition. Agree about the old pens with drying ink. I too have a few, including some sketch pens whose worn out felt tips serve me better now than when they were new!

love the effect of the church you created! i agree - drying pens are awesome but this condition is hard to control - we don't really know how much ink is left or may not have them available at all... i found that i can only reliably and repeatedly achieve this effect of broken lines with a ball point pen, as they do react great to pressure change, unfortunately, taking photo of ball pen drawings for instagram sucks bc their ink tends to 'glare' reflecting the lamp or day light.

Thanks! Always a good lesson from you. As I have commented in earlier videos, I am going to do some architecture sketches from your prodigious image portfolio. I think it would be helpful to start with some of the simpler drawings before crushing my dreams [it's fine, I'll carry on :)] with the more complex ones (it's not always obvious which are which unless you watch all the videos and remember). I was wondering if you could sort of give set of your favorite drawing exercises with some difficulty grades/opinions?

Thanks Scott. Hmmmm. Let me see. Perhaps I can organise a few playlists. 😀
