As a self taught Artist with no knowledge of the art world, these videos are gospel! Thanks for making education more accessible to the self starters out there 🙏🙏
Thank you, as you mentioned this stuff is not taught at school. I cannot believe I've been out of art school for a decade and I was not aware that there was such a robust system to develop artists outside of school. I actually gave up 4 years ago and quit drawing because my life was so contorted around trying to make my life work so I can make art. It caused the worst depressive period in my life, and I've felt directionless and like I've lost my identity ever since. It just felt impossible, like I was a talented illustrator, but the only way to support myself was through editorial illustration which i've always felt like... I just never liked. I only wanted to make personal work and hated being art directed because it always felt contrived, watered down, literal, and narrow ie "this image is about millenials not having as much money as their parents". It's corny and I hate it. Even though this video is basic information, it is new to me and very helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
As a Self taught artist (Musician) in a country like Pakistan full of religious extremism towards artists and minorities, I am luckily able to enhance my art in a locked room of my home and this is the best opportunity. A friend in Europe told me about this program. This is the place where I belong. Could someone help me get into any artist residency? I want to escape from a toxic country and people with the help of my art which is the only thing I am passionate about.
This has been really helpful! I'm looking forward to applying to an art residency and this is such a great guide for me to start organizing everything :)
17 seconds In and I immediately recognize truth after going through multiple, unsatisfactory videos about artist residencies. Perhaps this is the video to enlighten me further on this phenomenon I have recently stumbled upon.
Thank you for all of your knowledge and encouragement!!! I’m getting back to my craft and I’m currently looking for residencies! I really appreciate you!
I have question, when you apply the residence. Do artist normally already prepare the concept beforehand? And what does it mean submit the "materials" application form?
So, as someone who's in their 40s, and I'm currently in school for art, but thinking about the future, do you have advice for anyone who is completely new about artist residencies? Should I work up a portfolio and/or a reputation (even if it's local to me) before even thinking about applying to a residency, or doing research on which residency would be good for me?
Hello Moriah, thank you for this video. I am curious is there a platform for free where to apply for residencies or does the research mean also I have to apply for specific museums? I think there are more than museums giving opportunity of residencies right?
Hello I got accepted in a artist residency in Greece coming from Egypt but I’m confused between cultural or study visa what type to apply for do you have any clue?
You know, it would be REALLY great if you could attend some of the student shows at the leading MFA programs in the country like Yale to interview some upcoming artist-of-color...
Great efforts Moriah .. Could you help me sharing a link of funded visual art residencies in Europe ? I am confused and and this is what I need exactly. Thanks Reply
@@DearGlorywithMoriahAlise I mean that (comment I made) pretty much sums up the video. (Video did less explaining, and more quote “I want you to do your own research”)
@@DearGlorywithMoriahAlise that’s not what I was looking for when I searched anyways. I was looking for someone’s experience sharing their pros and cons, maybe somethings to expect, or even a general explanation of artist residency and how it all started. (I get it’s all different depending on the different locations, was just looking for more of a in-depth look at different people’s experience or a broader look into artists residency statistics)
I just got accepted into my first artist residency and I am so excited
That’s amazing! Congratulations!
I’m on a residency and it’s made me 10x more ambitious and serious about my art career ❤️❤️
I'm an artist and somehow I really need more experience ...and this artist residency pick my interest

I have never heard of artist residency before
This is a great starting point. Thank you!
Thank you this is so helpful! Do you have any advice for someone wanting to enter the art world without an art school background?

that's amazing! I think you should build a portfolio and even if your stuff isn't published, I'm sure there's residencies that don't require that.
Excellent video. Thank you

Artist residency programs often don't offer any money or support. These programs are horriblenfor artists!
Here’s an explanation of art residency, “I want you to do your own research” the end
Lol🤦♂️
What do you mean?

@@Drewsdraws you should do your own research. I can’t tell you which residency to apply for. I don’t know you.
