Bro, I saw this movie 15 times in theatres and cry every time. I had broken up with my partner a month before the movie came out. She was Japanese and we were supposed to see this movie together. As far as the emotional beats go & making him a villain, this is the kind of Godzilla I've always wanted to make since childhood. At the same time, I just became an uncle to twins. All of this, combined with the timing of its release, had a profound effect on me.

    Hello!
The bruise-like thing on Noriko's neck is a Godzilla cell. This has been suggested by the director, Takashi Yamazaki.
Godzilla showed amazing regenerative powers in the movie. It is thought that Noriko recovered thanks to the power of the Godzilla cells. However, this made her different from the original. Her daughter does not look happy to see her mother. She just stares at Koichi anxiously. The child is aware that she is not her original mother.

According to the director, that black thing on her neck is Godzilla regenerating cells. she was infected with it at Ginza. That’s the only way she survived that blast. She regenerated, thus setting up for the sequel.
By the way that plane was for real. They actually had that, except it was not put into mass production. The war ended before it was put into production. If you look closely at the seat in the movie, you can see German written on it. Japan didn’t have the technology for it back then so they got it from Germany. Because of the Japan-Germany thing back then. A little Easter egg from the director.

So, I’ll admit I started watching your channel because I thought you were cute and had really pretty eyes. I soon realized that your reactions are thoughtful, heartfelt and very expressive. Seeing you now react to both Shogun and G minus 1 I thought maybe I’d mention a Japanese concept, Gaman. It essentially translates into “to bear the unbearable” which might offer some insight into the perseverance of so many Japanese characters. Anyway, thanks for your content and keep up the great work.

When we really think about it, the american company making godzilla a good guy in their movies is kinda twisted cause like..godzilla was created because of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombs caused by America. So obviously when the japanese companies use godzilla as a good guy its completely different than when an american company does it. Godzilla was created by Japan and became a japanese icon so its basically like a mascot to the country, them making it a good guy in their movies doesnt have the irony and weight that it does when its done by america. When it's japan it says "look we are taking this very bad and sad thing that happened to us and making it our strength and turning it into something positive"
When its America it says "look..the bombings werent that bad guys, look, the atomic bomb child lizard that we created by the bombings is a good guyy..yayyy"

Maybe I'm crazy but I want to say that the translation in theaters was "we leave the future to you" while in the Netflix subs it says "we leave the country's future to you" which for some reason doesn't resonate as much given how critical this movie was of Japan. The general future was a less nationalistic approach I guess.

The captain's line is,「この国はお前たちに任せたぞ。(konokuni ha omaetachi ni makasetazo)」 “I leave this country in your hands.” So strictly speaking, the Netflix subtitles may be correct.
The captain's words mean that he wants the new generation that has never known war to create an ideal nation because the country of Japan has been wrong until now.

    • @MrCliff-sb3yi

@@CinemaJacket sometimes the differences are one is a sub for what they’re actually saying & the other is what was in the script. Other times, like this instance, they Americanize the closed caption subtitles. [cc] versions also tend to spoil things more because they add in the things so those that can’t hear know things like “footsteps approaching” or give character names before you’re supposed to know who it is. I generally tend to stay away from the [cc] versions for these reasons.

That shows just how much Godzilla hates humanity..he is happily willing to melt himself to fire one more blast to kill a few more people. This is very thematic for post ww2 Japan where many veterans who became friends of Japanese veterans said. The reason they forgave them and befriended them was "sometime the hating...has to stop"

From what I can see in that scene where the ships scraped: the boats had to tightly knot the apparatus around Gojira, and with that crane, had to get close so it could be done properly.
Ya, they were saluting Gojira. They, in essence, defeated a deity, and a worthy foe.

Special attack. To put it extremely briefly, there was no longer a pilot.
Once the boy is trained and finally able to fly, he is ready to go.
That's why they never come back. However, for some secret measures
I needed to buy time. Either way, I'm in a situation where I won't be able to come back alive.
Some of the secrets were that two atomic bombs had been completed.
Mass production of jet fighters (based on the Messerschmitt 262) begins.
It was about to start. And so on.
I guess it can't be helped in those days. The end of the ancient kingdom of Judah,
It was like the end of the Western Roman Empire.
In the movie, there is a building in Ginza with a clock tower.
That building is both a symbol of Ginza and a symbol of Japan.
That's the only place that hasn't been attacked by the United States.
The others are completely wiped out.
In this way, buildings and areas associated with ancient Judaism have not been attacked.
There are many cases in which it is better to think that there was a secret pact between
the two countries before the war between Japan and the United States began.

@@SleepyWafflesFor most versions of Godzilla, he's a byproduct of the nuclear tests conducted in the Pacific, with Castle Bravo in 1953 being the most notable one. That's the test that the Monsterverse used as the attempt to kill Godzilla.
Castle Bravo in particular is deeply connected with Godzilla. The bomb was much larger than they expected, and a Japanese fishing ship called Lucky Dragon No.5 was in the fallout zone, causing the crew to become irradiated. This was the event that directly inspired the original 1954 film.

In the previous Japanese films, Godzilla was turned into a monster as a result of nuclear testing. Only the Legendary version states that the nuclear testing at Bikini Atoll was done to "kill Godzilla." First of all barely anyone even knew about the name Gojira or what it was, as you see in the beginning of the movie and he was very small and not much of a threat in comparison to later on in the movie. it doesn’t make sense to go overboard at first and to try to kill him with nukes and then send people on a wooden boat to stall him and battleships to attack him after using nukes
