If the company that built the P-51 had just put 20-30 pounds of armor plate to protect the radiator under the aircraft scores of pilots could've been saved! It was the weakest link, they lost lots of P-51's in Europe to low level attacks, a rifle bullet thru the radiator always seem to do it.

Australia played a notable role in the Korean War, committing troops to support the United Nations effort against North Korean aggression. Here are some key points about Australian involvement in the Korean War:
    1. **Commitment of Troops**: Australia was one of the earliest countries to respond to the UN call for military assistance in Korea. The Australian government, under Prime Minister Robert Menzies, quickly committed troops to support the UN forces.
    2. **Formation of the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3 RAR)**: Australia's main contribution was the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, which was formed specifically for service in Korea. This battalion, along with other Australian units, was part of the larger Commonwealth Division within the UN command.
    3. **Combat Operations**: Australian troops were involved in combat operations across various fronts in Korea. They participated in significant battles, including the Battle of Kapyong in April 1951, where Australian forces played a crucial role in repelling a large Chinese offensive.
    4. **Contributions and Sacrifices**: Australian forces in Korea made significant contributions and sacrifices. They faced harsh winter conditions, fierce battles, and substantial casualties. The war had a lasting impact on Australian military strategy, equipment, and veteran support systems.
    5. **Naval and Air Support**: In addition to ground forces, Australia also contributed naval and air assets to support UN operations in Korea. Australian naval vessels provided naval gunfire support and participated in blockades, while Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) squadrons flew combat missions, including ground attack and reconnaissance.
    6. **End of Active Combat**: Australia's active combat involvement in the Korean War ended in 1953 with the armistice agreement. However, Australian forces remained in Korea as part of the UN peacekeeping efforts following the ceasefire.
    7. **Legacy**: The Korean War is remembered in Australia as a significant chapter in the nation's military history. The contributions and sacrifices of Australian troops in Korea are commemorated through memorials, museums, and annual ceremonies honoring veterans.
Overall, Australia's participation in the Korean War reflected its commitment to international security and its alliance with the United States and other UN member states during the Cold War era.
