Very beautiful job there Ryan. Really likeing this design. Hopefully you will get great use out of them for many years to come my friend. Can't wait to see more updates an projects and many more videos soon Ryan. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge On. Fab On. Weld On. Keep forge lit. Keep Making. God Bless.
Wow! Amazing! Thank you so much for sharing! May I ask what kind of bearing you started with? Ball bearing or race? What was the weight, pre-fab, and what was the head finish weight? Just curious! I always wondered how 52100 would serve as an axe! Any special heat treat for 52100? I haven't started blacksmithing yet, but getting my ducks/tools/equipment/steel in a row! I have some 52100, W2 (rare, anymore), 5160, etc...one of these days....trying to learn what I can! Greetings from Oregon 🇺🇸! 🪓🌲🪓🌲
It was a race bearing. Weight was about 5# just put it through annealing to soften it up before forging into a basic rectangular axe blank. Heat treat is pretty easy with a a few normalizing cycles then heat to 1550F soak for 10 minutes then quench in oil (AAA) tempered back at 400 degrees. It’s a great steel for any cutting edge. I use it for knives a lot
Very nice work
