@meccaturbo Kevlar is one of the best materials for this job, but for bass you need 8" cone at least, thats why the speaker is flapping, its suited to mid range tones, thats why we have subwoofers. any 2 way speaker will move a lot if you chuck the right music at it.
Bass I Love You is the ultimate track to test how low of a bass your speaker can handle. The OP clearly titled his video..... speaker excursion.... and not how define the B&W speakers are. Try it, if you are confident that your speakers are top notch, play Bass I Love you with volume at 12oclock. This track will move massive air starting from 9oclock on the dial.
@meccaturbo Hey man, just wanted to say that although I appreciate your thought provoking comments, I still don't think you truly understand what this song really is about. This song was specifically made to output frequencies under 10Hz. No other song right now (that I know of) will move those speaker cones the way this song does. I dare you to play this song on your speakers loud enough and take a video of it. Your speakers will respond in the exact same way. Don't knock it before you try it
@cumesoftware Large excursions are not necessary for bass sound transfer. Large movements mean that a cone is moving not exactly in sync with the actual sound wave.
@meccaturbo Dude. Read the title of the video. This is an excursion, not an audiophile listening test. If you turn the volume up high enough, on ANY speaker, you will see what you call "distortion". The purpose of this video was just to show the response these speakers make to this particular infamous song.
It doesn't matter how much excursion there is as long as you do not clip or distort the amp. Running 10 watts through your speakers with no distortion will do no harm. Even a few watts with this song will really cause the excursion in ported enclosures.
@syugo good point...i had them hooked up to my av reciever at the time...now with my new stereo amp the bass is not too bad...i also dont like too much bass, actually this is why i didnt like that i had to use my subwoofer with these speakers...but now they are plenty bassy alone....very enjoyable speakers
@syugo It's true....large cone excursions = distortion. The less the cone moves for a given bass sound, the cleaner the sound is. These speakers do not have the sound quality of a similar speaker that does not move as much.
@xXORAnG3Xx wow really? i find that to be imposible...im sure my nad c372 amp and my 602 s2 B&Ws are worth more than a pair of 602 s2....what do you think?
@cumesoftware From termpro.com's article on subwoofer design, "so the mechanical damping is poor, resulting in "hang-over" and lack of definition." Need I say more?
@pikachize Geez I've said it a hundred times. This video does not mean I blast my speakers with rap/dubstep all day everyday ruining the drivers like I'm some idiot that does not appreciate the craftsmanship of B&Ws. This was an experiment to just physically see how amazing that craftsmanship is. I have a sub so I my B&Ws don't even wobble compared to this video. This song was chosen for it's low frequency sounds, not because I really enjoy it!
@CobraProductionsTV Haha, I know. I have only played this song about 4 times. Just so I can amaze myself at the pure beauty of these speakers. Now I am content that these speakers can take a beating. But I mostly listen to chill music like Zero 7, Ulrich Schnauss, Thievery Corporation, and of course some Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Grant Green stuff :] The song isn't all that amazing to me, but the response these speakers make toward the song are enough to make me play it a few times.
@CobraProductionsTV Surely you're not saying that playing the song a few times for entertainment purposes degrades the valor and reputation of these speakers? It's all just some metal, plywood, and wires, making a sound we naturally hear as music. It's all bout how it is put all together to move air in such a way that we can instantly remember. Plus, it is awesome when you're baked.
If you are using bookshelf speakers mainly for mp3s, can I still use my 10 year old sony stereo receiver? Also, which bookshelf speakers do you recommend? My range is $100-$300
you should of played the same song on the video that you were playing when you were recording. IT sounds like that speaker is pounding. how much did it cost?
@meccaturbo you just confirmed that you have a 8" woofer which was the point i was getting at, dedicate woofer and midrange will always sounds better. It's obvious you don't like bowers & wilkins, but they're a VERY respected brand and this happens to be their entry level series... and your knocking it for what?
Looks to me like either you have the loudness button on your amp switched in or wow and flutter from a turntable. Either way it looks too excessive for them. Maybe you have the Bass control too high. Give em a break.
@edge160 Yeah dude, I have a ~1972 Pioneer SA-9100 that I could use in this set up. As long as the receiver can receive sound and transmit it to the speakers you're all good. As for recommendations, I'm not the best guy to ask as I haven't really looked around in that range. All I can say is Google is your friend!
I have the exact same speakers, you'll ruin them doing that. I have a modest 50wpc Arcam amp and pushing them too hard at a party they started to smell then cut out, the woofer blew and it cost £60 odd quid for a replacement unit from B&W.
@shigalbigal Haha, it is definitely a .mp3 playing in the video. My crappy camera cannot handle the volume. But that's not really what this video is about. It's just for the movement.
@nicholias1 Not true. I have Eton (Deutschland) 8" woofers in my speakers....even with the bass turned full up, they don't move nearly as much as this B&W crap. The point is, good speakers don't need to move that much - and good thing they don't because it causes distortion.
Did you ever get the? Incase not then just a heads up, There lacking in bass to be honest, I bought a set hoping I could use them to replace my old JBL l36 speakers mainly to save space(live in a condo). But after comparing them I prefer my old jbls, these little speakers and there small enclosures just cant produce that deeps booming bass you want in a lot of hip hop r&b and so on. They need a subwoofer for sure in my opinion, But Aside from the bass though there amazing speakers and I’m still going to keep mine.
Haha I know your pain...this song is just terrible. But everyone uses it for speaker excursions because of the insane lows which in turn push your speakers to the limit. We don't use this song because we like it. Soon I'll be uploading some videos of my record player spinning songs I love, check em out! I actually made another "excursion" video if you check my channel. It's the DJ Frane - Nector for Isis video. Maybe that song is more to your liking.
@nicholias1 I like B&W, but I don't like their speakers that move a lot....it shows poor engineering. For example, Klipsch makes very efficient speakers that do not need to move a lot. They sound better (less distortion).
@fvresonanator I agree...these speakers doesn´t deserve a track like this,they deserve much better "tunes". Maybe this guy should had just bought himself a pair of cerwin vegas instead eyy?
@Warzinak This is true. If you had these speakers set up for a home entertainment system, which means a pretty decent sized room, then the bass on these speakers certainly won't suffice. But since they are just for my little room, it has the perfect amount of bass. To tell you the truth...when listening to music I HATE it when the bass is waaaay to loud. It takes away from the whole experience, you gotta balance this stuff out. Unless you want to be gansta...but then you listen to shitty rap.
@pikachize I don't use the EQ within winamp...it distorts the sound. Also I don't listen to 128 kbps .mp3s, 99% of my music collection is in .flac format and the rest of my collection is on vinyl. So fuck you.
@syugo You don't know anything about audio. Cheap speakers move a lot. Bass reflex designs with stiff cones don't need to move a lot....excursion or no excursion.
@cumesoftware You don't know anything about the principles of what makes good drivers. And, FYI, not everyone calls them drivers....some call them speakers. A good speaker/driver/whatever you want to call it does not need to be that floppy to sound good. In fact, that much cone motion causes distorted sound. I know a lot about speakers -considering I built my own. Eton woofers, Electrovoice horn midranges and tweeters. You should wisen up on your speaker knowledge, because it's lacking.
@meccaturbo Kevlar is one of the best materials for this job, but for bass you need 8" cone at least, thats why the speaker is flapping, its suited to mid range tones, thats why we have subwoofers. any 2 way speaker will move a lot if you chuck the right music at it.
@Fred196407
It's because the volume is turned up almost to max. At normal listening volume they barely move.

@TheCaramelflavour B&W are known for making high-fidelity speakers.
@cumesoftware
You should wait awhile until I upload the 720p version. The high speed camera captures the vibrations so well.
@kboy3141 It may not have a choice, but it still causes more distortion than the amount of distortion from a speaker that doesn't move as much.
It doesn't matter how much excursion there is as long as you do not clip or distort the amp. Running 10 watts through your speakers with no distortion will do no harm. Even a few watts with this song will really cause the excursion in ported enclosures.

@D7eadnaught
CS:S is was a favorite pass-time for many. The funny thing is I used to live in Sevenoaks UK
@syugo It's true....large cone excursions = distortion. The less the cone moves for a given bass sound, the cleaner the sound is. These speakers do not have the sound quality of a similar speaker that does not move as much.
@edge160
I ended up with a receiver, but integrated amps are just as good. Especially if it's a Rotel or Marantz!
@xXORAnG3Xx
wow really? i find that to be imposible...im sure my nad c372 amp and my 602 s2 B&Ws are worth more than a pair of 602 s2....what do you think?

Frequencies go through 5 Hz, to 26 Hz
Definitely you need a super sub to hear this "InfraSound" frequencies.
@CobraProductionsTV
Haha, I know.

hey nice music.. can u name the soundtrack for me? Thanks
@CobraProductionsTV

Thanks for the feedback. Also, is an integrated amp better than an a/v receiver for stereo? I deciding between Rotel and Marantz.
If you are using bookshelf speakers mainly for mp3s, can I still use my 10 year old sony stereo receiver? Also, which bookshelf speakers do you recommend? My range is $100-$300
@syugo try getting a new camera
you should of played the same song on the video that you were playing when you were recording. IT sounds like that speaker is pounding.
how much did it cost?
you have madd good mic
@meccaturbo you just confirmed that you have a 8" woofer which was the point i was getting at, dedicate woofer and midrange will always sounds better. Well my speakers and receiver are fine so far.
I haven't turned the sound above 50 in a few months.
Artist: Bassotronics
Song: Bass I Love You
it keeps bluring
@edge160

What name this song pls?
@bluedroog Yeah I know, i haven't pushed my speakers this far since
I have the exact same speakers, you'll ruin them doing that. I have a modest 50wpc Arcam amp and pushing them too hard at a party they started to smell then cut out, the woofer blew and it cost £60 odd quid for a replacement unit from B&W.

This song really has some bass.
Sadd that you used your B&w speakers for this.
Just get a good subwoofer from B&W and use that for the bass.
Hvad er det for noget musik der spilles ???
@harrygoozee Yeah it's the auto-focus trying too hard
@becooliusbulius Also called kevlar bud ;)
@asherizm
Yea, that's why I don't play my music that loud. I only did this for youtube.
Either this speakers have the perfect quality possible (and your camera), or you just put the song over the video.... i think it's the second..
@Warzinak
Yea but one thing is these are not made for bass.. Plus i bet you these speakers cost more then your whole system..
BassHead damn! That gives me pity these B&W...
@dj54321kl they blew because your amplifier failed
@nicholias1 Not true. I have Eton (Deutschland) 8" woofers in my speakers....even with the bass turned full up, they don't move nearly as much as this B&W crap. The point is, good speakers don't need to move that much - and good thing they don't because it causes distortion.
I would love to own a set of these beauties.. One day, just one day ;)

Haha, go on...
these speakers bass are sooooooo lacking imo...hardley notice any bass without my subwoofer on....
@syugo you should, you don't know your speakers very well.
âm nhạc 🔊🤣
@fvresonanator I agree...these speakers doesn´t deserve a track like this,they deserve much better "tunes".

you got ripped off their mate, B&w shipped me one for £20 after calling them. Only too 10 minutes to install. Still awesome speakers though
@meccaturbo
I'm gunna have to back out of this one. I have no time for bullshit.
@syugo You don't know anything about audio. Cheap speakers move a lot. Bass reflex designs with stiff cones don't need to move a lot....excursion or no excursion.
@myfagan
must admit, my mistake
They sure are lovely.and there made to last.but it's like giving the most beautiful woman in the world a hotdog.
@cumesoftware You don't know anything about the principles of what makes good drivers. And, FYI, not everyone calls them drivers....some call them speakers. my cell phone speaker has better excurision than that
any speaker that shakes that much is garbage.
People are so dumb. all they want is base base base...No that sounds crap. ans mate uve prob blown these by now, well dne.
