I absolutely love these videos! They have helped me so much! Went from knowing 0 about designing to my dentist nick naming me "ceramic master" thank you for your videos!
Thank you for producing such educational videos. I am a CDT-ceramic specialist who has transitioned into the digital arena. I have a great appreciation for the attention to natural morphology that you achieve through your technique; especially in the high-paced production scenarios of today that tend to disregard aesthetics.
Thanks Bryan. There is amazing intelligence in today's digital software if there is adequate reduction for the material being used. I have found as an educator, if offices appreciate aesthetics, it can proficiently be achieved. All the best.
Wonderful job doctor! Ive been an EFDA for 25 years. Your videos are extremely helpful. Thank you. I'm just starting a new job because I relocated from South FL to Savannah GA. My office was not equipped with this and I was there 13 years. I had previously worked in an office that had it and loved it. But I'm a bit rusty lol. So I'm brushing up. I just came across your videos!!! Wow!!; so informative!! Excellent!!! Again thabk you!
Hello, thank you for uploading a perfect video, just one question, I see that when you do sintering in the program, it appears 14 minutes, how does it adjust in my oven, is it the same as yours, it appears 26 minutes, can it be adjusted? thank you
hello James :) i have a for you .. if we dont apply the infiltration technique after sintering ,staining technique is the same ? just glaze and put colour like how you did or there are some differences? if you could answer i would apprecite :) thank you
Hi Dr. Klim thank you for sharing such great information and video. Tell me please how do you holding this emax crown? Do you use some special paste for holding this unit ?
Do you have Katana stain and glaze video? I researched the MiYo stain and glaze after watching your videos (they are just awesome), but turned out won’t work for Speedfire. Can you use the e-max characterization stain and glaze on Katana?
Can most labs add stain to a crown (s)? Is staining a normal procedure or is it so specialized in skill only some labs are capable? My dentist and lab is having a hard time matching my crowns (lower) to my existing upper crowns. We have tried twice thus far with the lab my dentist uses and they keep coming back way too bright vs my uppers. We can't seem to get it right although my temporaries match my current crowns much better, almost perfect. Along with my initial ques of can most labs stain a crown, do you have any suggestions on how one might get the color better matching besides using the color pallet dentist use? Your reply is much appreciated. Really frustrated as the cost to get them was not cheap at all and this far only happy with the shape and fit...color is driving me nuts
That is why I do CAD/CAM in my office, I often place the final crown in one appointment, or if two appointments are needed, the crown can be turned around in several days. Hope this helps. If you are using a lab, try using a lab that uses CAD/CAM, this is a faster turnaround. i mill the emax crowns and i always get bubbles on the buccal and lingual surfaces, any tips on how to make it so there aren’t any bubbles on any surface ?
Bubble usually means the glaze is too thick when using the Crystall glaze. The Miyo 850 will solve this issue and is a more updated glaze and coloring system.
From a practical standpoint. Initially the company made this recommendation base solely on drying time and avoiding bubble. When applied as show in the video, the speed drying time works and we do n to see bubble.
Thanks for your informative videos James. My firing times on P3 program are still 24 min 30 secs so I’m curious to know about your 14 minute program. Is this a new cycle that used not to be available but is now a recommended firing sequence for brushed on stain and glaze over e.Max crowns Many thanks again!
@@KlimDDS Thanks James, I’m using the Programat CS3 furnace but have never updated the unit. The software version reads V2.04. It may be a software update that can be applied perhaps to upgrade? Many thanks again (and also for your most recent video on glaze and stain!).
1Thanks for the video. I have a question: how do you account for the thickness of the glaze and coloring so that the restoration in the final seating fits well (interproximally and occlusally)? Do you mill the designed crown with specific thickness? Thank you!
I do not change parameters because I am conservative with glaze thickness addition, particularly on the proximal contact, brush the glaze then. When firing some of the glaze with embed into the ceramic, the dimension difference is insignificant.
@@KlimDDS Thanks for your reply! This is a step I have to keep practicing, as sometimes I feel the occlusal fitting is not immediately perfect after cementation. Therefore I was wondering about the milling settings. Thank you!

Hi i did a cerec crown and i put a glanze layer then i put it in the oven i think the glanze was very thin sothat the crown didnt come shiny. Can i put it another time in the oven with wright glanze viscosity. Should i pay attention of some procedures before i do that. Thanks very much for your videos
Did you use Crystall glaze? Yes, a second layer can be added, or polished up to a sinny luster. It is more about getting the glaze to the right viscosity. So keep trying and you will get it working.
@@alisaker6739 The cycle of P3 or P1 does not matter. With the smaller firing tray, you can fire up to two restorations in 15 minutes. However, glaze outcomes still come down to the glaze addition technique. On another note, the Ivoclor Glaze Paste is easier to use and more consistent in the outcome. I use it for recrystallized addition as well.
My preferred stain and glaze are Ivocolor from Ivoclar and MiYO from Jensen. I have not tried the Dentsply Sirona kit. Is that what you use? My preferred finishing kits are from Miesigner USA. bit.ly/3e83sTW
Hi! I have a question. When you choose the block color, do you aim for the main color of the restoration? Or do you keep it a bit whiter and then add some staining to match the final desired color? I found my restorations tend to be too dark… thanks in advanced!!! Great videos!
Good question, choose the shade of the cusps or incisal edge, and then use one shade brighter in most situations. That will help will help in not getting the value too low. And as you mentioned, then tone in the body and cervical zone with stains as needed. All the best,
Hope you can answer my question. My crowns came back from the lab looking bulky , my dentist shaped them and now they look good , but they are lacking the high shine I saw when they came back from the lab at first. I’m guessing they are stripped from the glaze? Do they need to go back to the lab for glaze ? I’m wearing them now with temporary cement and I don’t like how they look. They look Matt, and only shiny when I lick them. Also one more question. If they have to go back , what color of glaze will be used just to give them shine ?
Ceramics do not need a glaze to achieve a nice finish, half of my anterior cases are polished only. It is about technique. I am sure your case can be polished to perfection. Wishing all the best,
Dr. Klim . I have been using the Katana Zr block a lot which is great but I noticed that the shade value is higher than proposed. I don't have an oven in the office to stain like you do. Should I request the lab to use a A3 block when in reality the patient's shade is A2. Thanks
With Katana, I will use one or two shades darker than the matching target shade. I also use infiltration colors to tone down zirconia value and increase saturation. Zirconia will come brighter since this material bounces light more than ceramics. That is the reason for choosing lower value shades and infiltration. You think is on the right track.
James Klim DDS Thank you you for the tip and for taking time from your busy schedule to answer me. Please post a video someday in shade selection. Thanks Maurício
Another great video. You are a true artisan! I recently (Jan '21) had an implant procedure and now am awaiting the finished bridge (Sept '21.) The bridge the dentist ordered came in but was not a good color match. It was obvious to the doc, assistant, and myself that the color was too white. It must match my other top front teeth! The owner of the practice said that he would send it back for color adjustment to have some grey added to it and it would be perfect. Is that even possible to alter the color of the finished product? I've already paid $8k for this work and it must be up to par.
I hear you. Work with your dental team. Blending and matching shades is an art and challenge. I often will need to tweak blending properties once tried in the mouth. It is part of the process. All the best.
That’s amazing! What stain and glaze do you use. I use MiYO from Jensen and how were you able to put stain when the milled tooth is not yet baked cause I was taught differently. I do it separately first bake before staining it then fire it again.
I use MIYO for anterior's after crystalization, using a second bake. Posterior, I am using Ivocolor with the first crystallization bake. However, in the next month, something better will be hitting the market. I will post when it arrives.
