I was going to order the SJ6, which is in a lower price range, but something made me doubt that it would actually be what I was looking for. Though it looks like a good action camera, I wasn't very pleased with the very low battery life (40mins in 4K), which would be a bummer during a fishing session for example. There's was also an issue in finding the proper charger for if I would buy me a second battery. The sj8 Plus on the other has not only more features, the battery also lasts A LOT longer from the several reviews I've seen AND you can easily find yourself a set of two batteries with proper charger for it if you want to change batteries on the go. Nice review!!
Yeah, the SJ8 Plus is definitely better. Still - the SJ6 is also a very good action camera, but with all the nice additions to the SJ8 series - you will likely enjoy it more.

A couple of weeks ago I was collecting footage with both the Pro and the SJ7. Then I lost the Pro in a very unfortunate accident (noone hurt! :D just lost something I liked). If we leave the 4K stabilization aside, the 1080p is better too (I mean the stabilization). The image quality... It is more of a personal feeling, but I like the SJ7 colors better - they look a bit more natural. The plus goes too much in direction red. In terms of user experience - the new menus really feel great and are quite easy to use and understand. At the end - it is a meaningful upgrade only for people that are looging to get stabilized 4K. THe SJ7 can do the same with a gimbal. As soon as the new Pro arrives, I will work on comparing the three - Plus, Pro and SJ7 and we will have a more definitive answer. Based on subjective personal feeling - if you are not too keen to get stabilized 4K, the Sj7 is awesome for all of the rest.

EIS is Electronic Image stabilization - which is usually a software compensation of shakes based on input of a gyro-sensor. So yeah - in that case - yes.
Really nice review, like deserved! What about the external mic? Did you test it? I'm looking for a budget camera taking good stills and decent 1080p for around 100$. Firefly 8SE looks like the best one in the range, followed by SJ8 Plus and Gitup G3 Duo. External mic is not mandatory for me, but it would be a nice feature, do you have any suggestion?
Hey Roberto, thank you a lot! I have not bought the SJ8 microphone and I have no intention to, as I am quite against proprietary solutions (because of the same reason I won't buy the GoPro mic conversion kit). Being limited to just a single model is not good enough. Firefly 8SE has a mic as part of the package - which is nice. If you are looking for good quality, you are likely a person that will spend some time in post-production - you have a lot of options. I will mention two of them: 1. Buy cheap lavalier microphone and record with your smartphone (price starting at 10 USD) 2. Buy a lavalier microphone and recorder - like the Zoom H1n - it is much more expensive, but you can use it with any kind of camera - you will just have to stich in post-production. (price starting at 100 USD)

The cameras are pretty good, but SJCAM overestimates itself now. The SJ8 air is a nice low budget camera, but it is worth 95 euros (my opinion should cost around 70/80 euros). The SJ8 Plus is a nice middle budget, but for 170 euros I find it just a bit too expensive. If I compare it with the Gopro session also costs 170 euros, then my preference goes to the Gopro. The SJ8 Pro (200 euro) is just too expensive, because GoPro HERO 2018 (220 euro) is a lot better I think. Okay there is no 4K but we use it, but good SJCAM is better a good altative.
But that's what I think
This is exactly what I was talking about in the PRO review - ua-cam.com/video/QnUqgfTfjUU/v-deo.html
I do believe the same as you do. And combined with some of their malpractices, I'd say - this is very unfortunatel. In fact the PLUS model is way less troubled than the PRO model out of the box.
THe cameras are good, but not at that price. I am curious to see what will happen with the price after they release the GoPro Hero 7 series - looks like it will have three models.
Today the sj8 plus had to send back after a month of use, he did nothing more. I also had this problem with the sj6 legend air, grrrr to another brand.
So it won't power on any longer? Such a pity :(
Mine still works good.

Thanks! It feels very nice to have such well-polished menus. Hopefully this will be broight to the Pro model too.
