Its about confidence and satisfaction. Before dancing they pray god that everything should go right, so when the chalanga falls its like a sagunam thadangal, erros in dance... I think so. As an instrument is important for a musician, for a dancer its chalangai.
Actually it's not like that they pray because they re stepping on Bhooma Devi and not that Salanga should not fall..If you really dance hard then atleast 4 or 5 pieces will fall down..It's actually a sign that you've danced well..The thing is you must not stop dancing whatever falls(except your dress)..

I think she meant in a usual caselike when dancing for occasions or teaching. Loll i sincerely hope the person stops dancing when their dress falls :P
