This is my favorite symphony. But this interpretation is not my favorite, it feels too slow and chewy. I absolutely love the Frankfurt Sinfonie orchester version (conducted by Andres Orozco Estrada), I recommend you guys listen to this gem if you did not already
My dear late wife had to learn the musical score of the New World Symphony for her GCE exams at school, so I found out after purchasing a new LP of it and trying to surprise her when I got it home and on to the Hi-Fi. She was so pleased because it was one of her favourite pieces of music still. So I still share my thoughts with her through this beautiful classic piece.
None better, IMO. Love listening to the Slavonic Dances especiallyl ever since the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra played them at a "Symphony in the Park...ing Lot" event 25+ years ago. . .
Is this Lucia Popp singing the Song to the Moon? Her voice never fails to move me to tears. One angelic voice can fill a listener with an array of emotions.
While on a customer service call one day about 20 years ago, at Chase Bank, a woman called in with his last name. I pronounced Dvorak correctly and she was very impressed. I asked if she was related and it turns out she was his grand-daughter! She called in from New York. Anyway, I never forgot that. 🙂
So there's a piece of music I'd had stuck in my head for almost 25 years, from a compilation classical CD I got as a gift. I could remember how it sounded but nothing else, except that the word "dance" was part of the title. Well I finally used Google like I should have all along and the words "Anton Dvorak" and "Slavonic Dances" came up - and that sounded right, somehow. I knew the part I remembered started right at the beginning of the track, so dutifully I listened to the start of them all - no luck. Faulty memory perhaps? Today I tried again, on this video, and realized the version I had was edited down, started in the middle of the piece; specifically at 2:14:25, and suddenly this little splinter in my mind was lifted. Thank you, to whomever runs this channel, for helping me clear this silly mystery.
Just beautiful work. I've never heard of a few of these pieces, mostly New World Symphony since the mid 90's. But I really like the other works. Goodness, these are moving and beautiful pieces.
There are a few surviving songs for piano written by Dvoraks daughter Otilka, who was the only child who composed music. I'd have thought they'd be on UA-cam
Americans have a lot to thank Dvorak for. During his touring of America, he recommended that instead of simply emulating the music of europe, that we devise our own music based on traditionals. This would later take the form of Jazz and Hip Hop/Rap. I wonder what he would have thought about that?
Don't spirituals pretty much do the same thing? The point is that Dvorak was one of the people that inspired modern American music, along with Debussy and Tchaikovsky. But yes I see your point. Thanks for reminding me.
Yes, amazing, extraordinary feeling. I would listen to it in a loop :) See wiki en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphony_No._9_(Dvo%C5%99%C3%A1k) I guess he was the best classic composer from Czech Republic.
And some say Dvořak was influence by Wagner for example conductor said the Rusalka is little Wagnerian and czech. But Dvořák liked Wagner at beginning of career. His opera Alfred is Wagner influence as they said in documentary of 1990. On his website are stories and his music.

I just love energy and atmosphere of Dvořák's music, so stunning! I am proud to be Czech too.
He's great, there's no doubt about it. Best regards from your northern neighbour ✌
"Song to the Moon" from Dvorak's Rusalka has to be the most beautiful song ever written or sung. T_T I want to weep every time I hear it.
So true
I always heard it on the radio and thought not much of it. Then I heard it live by accident and it quickly became one of my favorite pieces.

You're a god
the new world symphony is the best ever composed
Yes.All hail Poseidon!
AGREED! I’m over here chasing the high from that song which I listen to almost daily but cannot find a single comparable composition.
Even the American String. I liked that he incorporated melodies from American and Czech folk songs to create something really beautiful.
This is my favorite symphony. But this interpretation is not my favorite, it feels too slow and chewy. I absolutely love the Frankfurt Sinfonie orchester version (conducted by Andres Orozco Estrada), I recommend you guys listen to this gem if you did not already
Tempo di valse is good too

This is a collection of pieces. I assume you refer to the "New World Symphony" in particular?
That is correct, the "New world Symphony". Thank's from John C
nice im from czech republic :) he was the best! :)
Thank you still. Incredible.
Seems a high level of proficiency just for GCE exams?
I really love going between Dvorak and Debussy within the same listening session. This is a great mix.
Oh I like this beginning! I never heard of him. I'm happy to listen to you Dvorák ❤
If you are looking for beauty in your life, here it is. Thank you Mr. Dvorak.

I like Dvorak's 'song to the moon' and his new world symphony. Keen to see what other nice pieces he has composed.

That sounds cool, and if that's the case, well also blues appeared in America, which is not only great by itself, but also lead to rock :D
1 time 2 times
I'm sure he would've loved jazz and all its progressions. I'm just now discovering all these other works Dvorak has done. Amazing, beautiful work.
Great music by my favourite composer. Everyone needs to hear Joshua Bell do 'Song to the Moon'... brings tears.
Thanks, Halidon Music
Sergé Gainsbourg used the melody from around 49:13 in parts of his song, The Initials BB, in 1968.
The opening piece is sublime

@@Lisohlavek He is established as the best Czech composer. The second one is probably Bedřich Smetana and the third Leoš Janáček.

I get the feeling that John Williams when making the music for Star Wars, was rather influenced by the work of Dvorak in some cases.
And some say Dvořak was influence by Wagner for example conductor said the Rusalka is little Wagnerian and czech. But Dvořák liked Wagner at beginning of career. His opera Alfred is Wagner influence as they said in documentary of 1990. On his website are stories and his music.
He influenced by Gustav Holst...

Hi Blake, he's from Czech Republic :)
Best of Dvorak...really? No Humoresque, no Serenade for strings Tempo di valse, no Romance for piano and violin, no Skocna, no romantic pieces.
