When another autoalex meet at the caffeine and machine the hill ?
I think there needs to be an evo engine swap and suspension lift
if you dont keep Del, ill unsubscribe..
I have a bit of a fleet myself and nothing in it gets better fuel economy than your little diesel van. 😥😥
Please please do a full on 4x4 beast mode restore on her Snorkel Shit loads of sun ☀️ burn your eyes out spot lights etc! Make him Madmax end of times survival nutter DEL! Danger Del 😂
keep del, he deserves some green-lane action, some camping, some epic road trips. GO ON DEL MY SON!!
Yes but please no roof tent
Get All The Gear to stay in it! 😂
Get del to strata Florida in the summer
Del and Betty love duo
Perfect support car for just about anything tbh!
This is one of your best videos in a long, long time! No stupid shouting or excessive dramatisation - keep it up guys!
I just had this exact same thought.
Yes a proper adventure. Three mates having a good time, without pretending to mess things up all the time.
Absolutely this.
I agree, this sort of seems like they decided to go on a road trip for fun and ended up filming some of it instead of planning filming something and trying to hard. It’s really good
Yeh the excessive dramatization was getting a bit much
This is one of my favorite videos from the guys in a while! Please don’t stop doing these rad road trips with sick old rare cars!! It helps us petrolheads live vicariously through you guys. And the content production and editing is flippin amazing. Gives off old top gear vibes, genuinely lads beautiful stuff
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
took the words out of my mouth
I absolutely agree!
14:24 Benjy and his editing will never cease to amaze me, he's a magician! Love this shot of Taylor in the rear view with the live map as well, awesome stuff!!
Yesterday watched Mat Armstrong drive a Rolls Royce to a Ski resort. Today Alex takes a clapped out old van 😅
Rather take Del than a Rolls Royce anyday!
I love that contrast. I did it in a £400 Iveco with leather sofas in the back. 14 years later, still my best road trip.
@@simongrego4231 Sure 🤣
Me too lol 😂
Del > any Rolls
This is why I subscribed to this channel. The chemistry, passion, interesting cars, and entertainment has been missing for months. Long may it remain
Its the crankshaft pulley. Its two piece with a rubber cushion and it fails and then the water pump stops Cost me two cylinder heads to find that out lol.
Harmonic balancer, a stripe of paint across it will tell you if it has failed.
Great van Alex. I had the 2wd version. You can easily adjust the kick down cable for the transmission so it doesn't kick down randomly on the highway. Adjust it where it meets the injector pump. Also, once the cooling system is sorted, It's pretty easy to up the boost to about 10psi for much better torque up hills. As standard, the waste gate never fully closes, but you can adjust the rod to close it and bring the boost on much earlier.
And yes the fuel tank is very small and half full on the Guage is really only quarter full.
I couldn’t watch this without mentioning UA-camr and landscape photographer Thomas Heaton who imported and refitted a Delica. He replaced his Ford Transit to give himself a vehicle that could cope with most conditions, and turned it into a lovely one-berth camper. His video series on the conversion is well worth watching.
I thought of that video as well while watching this.
Came to say the same thing!
Me too. And he takes staggering photos too!
And it's a Chamonix!
Wow I did not think Thomas Heston and Auto Alex would have a lot of overlap in viewership. Cool to see there are more people that watch both those channels/ follow those topics!
My uncle, who has since passed away, imported a Delica in the mid-90s when he moved to the UK. It was F-regged and it was so rare and unusual that the other kids at school would laugh at it and me when I was picked up by it. My aunt would recline and put her foot on the ledge just like Rory did. Thanks for bringing back the memories and great video.
i cant be the only one thinking this but i think del needs a full body off resto mod... refresh the mechanicals, tidy up the body, new paint and plastics, clean up the interor and maybe pull out the sewing machine and put some nicer fabrics in, tint the glass, some roof rails and lights ect, nothing drastic just to freshen him up and give him another 20 years of servace
if you take away, a warriors battle scars. all your left with, is a tin soldier.
they should leave it and just fix the wonky bits.
You know they’ll move on. The retention of viewers spikes with a new car. Not a series unfortunately. Usually anyway. UA-camrs all say that.
As a skiing instructor in Norway, i’d love to give you guys some lessons😀😀 And yes, keep Del👌🏻
There's the next adventure episode. Would you like for the guys to arrive to Norway in 1st gen X5 or L322 Range Rover?
My mental health is pretty much in the toilet right now. This video has genuinely made my day. Thank you Alex, Taylor and Rory.
Chin up mate, focus on the good, however little it might be.
And however low you feel remember the world needs you in it. ❤
There'll be better days ahead 👍
At least you have a toilet!😂
I'm joking of course, but I pray your situation gets better.
My situation isn't great at the moment, but I remind myself that it will get better and I have lots to appreciate.
MH problems are Hell . You are not alone mate, tomorrow is another day 🫂
I feel for you buddy I've been off work for 2 years due to severe mh problems. Never give up and the world needs you and if thinks get that bad please please speak to someone. Times you feel like it's all too much but you are worth it never forget that.
You got this king. keep finding the joy in the things that bring it
Find yourself a woman (or man) who looks at you the same way Rory looks at the M&M's at 17:27 . Banger episode as always, keep it up and look forward to shedfest!!
0:10 The Citroen BX ❤ by far one of the funniest, most wholesome videos you have made Alex. I'm looking forward to watching this new adventure, for £3500 you got a bargain
Shame the bx was sold... Would have been a great resto
I had one 1.9gt in red. up n down suspension, driver seat like an armchair lovely car cam belt snapped scrapped
22 mpg in a 30 year old 4x4 rig is not too bad even for a diesel… I see these occasionally here in the San Francisco/ Bay Area because there is a JDM importer that has brought some in. Very cool cars… Del, you’re a winner baby!
You guys need to keep Del. I would love to see you fix him up and add a few upgrades/modifications in the hopes of improving his MPG. Loving the videos as always.
Only logical thing would be to swap the engine with a 1.9tdi or m57, ofc the 4wd system would need some work to get it to function also with the new AAAINGINE
I had an L400 Delica for many years and it was superb in all aspects. The interior was so spacious. I could get 2 mountain bikes in it (not dismantled) and still 4 people in comfort, and once did a run to airport for holiday with 6 people and all the luggage. And of course, it was great off road.
I had a '94 l400 best car I've ever had and the only 1 I really regret selling.
Love the Reims segment... Awesome work lads
I think you're technically not allowed to park up there any more? Anyway it was a good segment.
Documentary quality filmmaking, genuine good times and a fun adventure giving Del a second life. Lovely stuff 👏
Once owned a '93 L300 Delica. While driving up a long but subtle hill section of road, foot pressed hard to the floor, I was overtaken by 35-tons of cow juice and a Lada Niva.
The Delica / off road toaster was great fun to drive, just needed a better power-plant.
Are you implying they need to do an engine swap?? 😊
Would love to see it!
Something like a Mitsi 4M40 2.8 from the later generation L400 Delica / Pajero would make for a decent re-power.
The number of Delicas on the road will be skewed by the fact that a whole lot of them, like yours, are imports. Imports don't usually show up with the model on the database, it says "Mitsubishi, Model: Unavailable" when checking your one too. So those won't really show up on howmanyleft, so that's 137 UK-sold Delicas left on the road.
Glad you mentioned the Chamonix special edition because I was thinking through the video - it can't be chance that they're taking a Delica to Chamonix! - these used to be popular with skiers and you'd see quite a few of them at the Glencoe/Glenshee car parks on ski days. One of the few vehicles that could drive around the closed snow gates and get away with it!
I have a very rare l400 chami but very rare 5 speed manual
def thinking of this the whole time hahaha the chamonix delica
best video in ages, loved the historical side of it, maybe a series of visiting old race tracks you can still access. keep it up
When I was a child, my parents had two of these Mitsubishis. Without 4WD and with a bench in the first row, so we could sit 8+1 people in this brilliant bus. Here in Germany they were called L300. And they were also available with a glass roof and swivel seats.
A friend of mine exported in the 90s an L300 AWD with AT-tyres 5 gear manual petrol variant from Germany to Chile. I got to drive it quite a lot over there and it proved to be a very nice car especially for rough roads in the Andes and sleeping in it. I also went to skiing and we always managed to convince chilean police to let us pass without putting the mandatory snow chains as we as Germans claimed to have "experience" while others where struggeling even with chains in their 2WD cars. Off road capabilities even on landslides, rocky riverbeds, etc. was pretty good.
The car felt especially nice on wide sweeping open gravel roads as I love the feeling of drifting while seated on the front axle. I suppose with diesel AT variant it wouldn't work that well. The manual petrol could easily maintain a speed around 130-140 km/h. But fuel consumption was high with around 14-15 l/100 km.
Negatives:
- headlights prone to be damaged by rockchips
- low autonomy due to the high consumption an small tank
- alternator is easily soaked in water and will fail, especially when driving for prolonged periods in salt water (for example in Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia)
I went to Reims de Geux a couple of years ago and it wasnt in quite as good condition. Ive heard a team of volunteers have recently set about restoring it and repainting some logos.
You are absolutely spot on about the fact we can't have these nice things in the UK without yobbos defacing everything though.
Seeing my Favorite UA-camrs/Pod casters Falling in love with the joys of The L300 Delica makes me super happy. I have had my Delica since 2005 and it has been faultless (apart from some bits of rust) Mines a Manual and a Petrol engine tho'
My stepdad had this car when I was a kid. The reg was N407JMB. Last MOT was in 2015 and it has been off the road since 2016. I would LOVE one again. I saw the thumbnail and was like "I KNOW THAT INTERIOR". Great vid lads.
Keep Del please, I would love to see you service it, get the can cleaned inside and outside, and then take him camping, some green lane, and other trips. I believe they did some work, on the f1 stuff at Reims a couple of years ago. It is on my list of places to go. I absolutely love these trip videos. Have a good weekend.
1. Loved this and glad to see you guys reconnecting.
2. The music on all these videos is great. Varied but always just right. Who does it? Take a bow (and make a playlist).
You can tell who the car salesman is:
Taylor: This is rust free this one....
Alex: It's kinda rust free, there's afew dings and dents
LOL 🤣
OH MY GOD THATS SO FUNNY…..NOT!
@@Dayone92 Glad you enjoyed it, here all year
@@Dayone92 No need to yell, and if you don't have nice things to say, maybe don't comment at all.

Many years ago, I had a Fiat Siena, which was manufactured in Argentina. There, a dream was born to take him from Brazil to Argentina. That car left in 2010 and I put off this dream. Until in 2024 another Argentinian appeared in my life: a Renault R19! The desire to take the dream trip to Argentina returned. And your video made me want to make this dream come true even more, in 2025!
We had a mitsubishi shogun that looks like this when i was a kid living in Norway.. So many great memories with that car. Got the family everywhere we wanted to go, and never got stuck in the snow. I remember my dad rearended a Fiat uno in it. The uno was totaled and the Shogun had some scratches on the bullbar :)
Rory with excellent editing and music overlay. More roadtrips in funky cars!
It's slightly weird being from a country where these aren't rare and watching people go nuts over them, they are very cool.
Where you from?
Au/Nz would be my guess.
I have to say, the camera work, editing, music and just the general vibe of this video, is top notch! Well done lads.
1:50 Alex has nailed Taylor's zestyness 😂
Keeping del is a must. Such a gem. Will be good to see some challenges and adventures in del
Guys, there is a quite healthy Delica community in the UK. I had a Space Gear a while ago and it was a superb offroading campervan, and I mean proper offroading... :)
So glad yall are really liking Del! I hope he gets to stick around for quite some time! While spending some time in the Philippines I actually got to ride in a 3rd generation Delica while going on some adventures on the island of Cebu. Thought it was the coolest “little” van which was really practical with no extra electronics, just what you needed. (Oh how I miss 90’s vehicles)
like this comment to make sure he knows we want him to KEEP DEL
I love that you've done this vehicle. We own a mazda bongo, which is essentially the same thing with a few extra bells. We love our bongo. It is one of the best vehicles ever made ❤️
Keep dell also where is my money 28:19
Always here for an old obscure car. Much much better than videos of cars I can't and will never be able to afford by other UA-camrs.
9:50 If the engine throws a rod...
Where will it go 😳😂😂😂
Up your...
@@TommyCullen-VacuumConnisour car!!!! yay!
Don't worry, cars hardly ever throw a rod. For that to happen the car would have to suddenly downshift at high speed for no apparent reason.
💀💀
@@drunkenhobo8020no dude my Volvo 740 threw a rod unintentionally
I love that they did the car walk around in some random parking spot in France. They could have done it at the unit or any of their usual places, but instead just stopped in France to shoot the walk around. For some reason that just tickles my fancy.
I was going to say "Keep Del!" anyway, but since you say I'm gonna get 5 pounds for saying it, I say it one more time: Keep Del!!! Always loved the odd stuff no-one seems to care for, especially mono-volumes with an attitude, like Del. Make him shine even more!
Alex has cracked it - a road trip in a vehicle he’s wanted for years, and the lovely Taylor as his copilot who seems to be able to fix anything in a flash 😊
By far the best car you have bought for a long time.
Hope to see more of Del
Man! That Delica brings back memories. 20 years ago my girlfriends parents had one of those. German L300, 2WD, manual with column shifter, Petrol. Slow as hell, wind noisy above 60 MPH and always overheating. But man, it just kept going. Will always rember that strange steering feel sitting in front of the wheels and that shifter. How many great trips we did. Please keep that precious thing going!
6:43 bless you rory
Hi Guys, I really loved this video of you all having a proper adventure. Going to new places, seeing historical architecture (Dijon) and sporting venues (Reims) I thought it was a true example of being with your mates and having properly good time, that you will remember forever.
More PLEEZ ...
Questions about Del :
1. Is he switchable between 2 & 4 wheel drive ? If he is, 2 wheel drive will be more economical on the long tarmac/road sections &
2. Does Del have lockable diffs ? If he does have them, unlock 'em and he'll roll easier/more economically on the open roads.
3. What tyre pressures were you running on this trip ? 40 psi all round will help on mpg.
Just finished watching the podcast, great timing
This was so good. The production quality, the story being told, the scenes. You three've got a very good chemistry, and I liked the part at the end mentioning it. Keep it up, and the best for 2025 🎉
You definitely need to keep Dell and turn it into a Chamonix special edition with a 4G63 and a manual conversion. That would be sick!
I so wanted a camper conversion one. Brilliant bit of kit. Motorhomes have road tyres, front wheel drive and park on the grass that gets wet. So this was always on my wish list. I've settled for a caravan as it was a gift. Keep the brilliant videos coming.
Literally the new top gear / grand tour . Keep the new generation and us oldies going lads don’t stop the best content!!
I've got a JDM delica here in Canada, we've gone 37,000km/22,000 miles between 3 provinces and 5 states so far, it's been fantastic! Enjoy Del, maybe someday he can meet our Delilah
I put a snorkel on mine, and a winch, and bearly used the winch when on the lanes. Rust killed it but was a high milage hero when she went to the grave, was very thirsty to but ran of basically anything flamable
The Delica's quite popular in Eastern Russia, it's like a more humane Niva
Brilliant video, its great to see a delica again. I live on Guernsey and at one point perhaps 10 years ago there were several hundred of these on our roads, they're a great car for our narrow roads, my dad had a fourth gen for years, enjoyed many trips to France and the UK in it.
That was most definitely the best recent video! What a way to kick off the new year! We NEED to see more of del! True autoalex spirit!
Happy new year lads!
Can't wait to see more content on Del, one of the most interesting vehicles on the channel lately
Taylor ..pay your bills man ...enjoyed this channel but since what you've done I'll be unsubscribing
Keep it!
I had a L400 and took it all over the mountains off roading. They are as capable as any hilux, prado out of the box. Really incredible vehicles, with so much versatility inside and out and tons of character.
With crossovers and SUV’s taking over the market, it still boggles my mind no one has made a modern proper 4x4 van with interior flexibility like this.
Miss my old Deli! ❤
PS: my friend was the next owner and cut the roof off to make it a high top. Than sold it to someone who cut the back off and made it a 6x6. So somewhere in Canada there is a 6x6 high top delica roaming around.
Ive been waiting for this
love the "how to be a UA-cam Star book on the seat" Don't think you guys really need that book if i'm honest! Great video once again
Wow...amusing how 'clean' the comment section is...
A mate had one of these years back, imported it himself as I recall. Such a versatile vehicle, and a great party bus! Having survived owning a Mazda Bongo, I do love my JDM vans, this has got me trawling for another one... edit: not surprised he's a thirsty boy, big diesel, slushbox and aerodynamics of a barn. Bongo was the same, low 20's on a good day! Loved this video chaps, a really nice feel to it. All the best for a fun and successful 2025.
4:02 when you flip the seats around to face the back, I'm presuming it's not to be used when driving as the seatbelt appears to still be attached to the pillar and doesn't go with the seat
They should have a lap belt fitted for use facing backwards. The one I had about 20 years ago when they first started coming to the UK did
It could also be due to some rules that have now changed, but basically for a while you didn't have to have seat belts for backwards facing seats in Vans/Bus's. Not sure if it's still like that, but I remember that from the 90s that a LOT of vans that had rotating/backwards facing seats you didn't need them.
A seatbelt serves no purpose on a rear facing seat
@@EazyDuz18 Unless someone happens to reverse the car really fast in to a wall 😂
@@EazyDuz18 What about if you take a tumble?
Loved this, felt really down to earth, didn't feel super dramatic and scripted. Well done. Also, Taylor's snowplough really wasn't too bad for a first timer with no lessons!!
3:40 fun fact: Alex says it's based on a Mitsubishi Pajero (which would actually be pronounced "pahero"), and its name, one thinks, may come from those who named it thinking of farming enviroment and that there's this think called straw, that is, "paja" (again, the "j" in Spanish is like the "h" in English), and the word "pajero" means "related to the straw", "the one who works with the straw" (just like in English you have the "-er" to go from, say, work to worker and such, Spanish has -ero, also -dor, but in this case it's -ero, erasing the second "a" along the way).
It was all nice until someone noticed, maybe a bit too late, that in Spanish, "paja" and "pajero" also mean "wank" and "wanker".
So, if you ever come across a Mitsubishi Montero (
Simmer down, nerd and enjoy :D
Did you know than the Hyundai Kona is sold as the Kauai in Portugal because the word Cona means female genitalia in that country?
This was perfect timing for me. I've just sat down to watch your latest uploads while adding a bunch of stickers my niece and nephew got me for Christmas to my ski helmet. Very much in the mood to ski now. Can't wait for February!
I hope it doesn’t need welding…
I have been skiing once, on a smaller slope, and it was terrifying so well done Taylor for smashing it down that snowy mountain! Del is amazing, so unique!
#keepDel He's already one of the mates after just one trip. He is a keeper. Rorys camerawork is so good too. Great guys all around. Keep it up and we will follow
Got me nostalgic for my old L400. MPV body on an off-road chassis it a great combo and I'm sad that no-one makes a car like this anymore. Hard to keep them running and not many left out there, so show Del some love and keep him trucking out there for a few more years to come.
Absolutely embarrassing and shameful to see the behaviour from your team shown in Josh's recent video. Straight up defamation and false information on your podcast.
Some things can't be covered up by comment deletion, and this is going to require more than a simple 'whoops, we're f*cked up'
Do better 👍
I remember my nan used to have a delica almost identical to del! The only real difference i can remember was that hers had a pair of captains chairs in the middle row, Absolutely loved that thing. It brings back some very wholesome memories watching del do his thing💜
Even more stories coming out exposing Taylor for who he really is. I don't know how he can sleep at night whilst knowing he has screwed so many people over with money. Autoalex should wash their hands with him ASAP if they want to salvage any credibility.
Great video. Tons of atmosphere, great shot and awesome editing. Loved it!
Egg.
What you did to Josh Gresswell is completely out of order, its going viral on his channel.
...and don't get me started on Shedfest.. they screwed so many people out of their money last year. they released even more tickets because of their greed and it caused traffic mayhem. They are conning people into paying for their own show, people pay to bring their own cars for the show...... mugs...
What makes me laugh so much in the Auto Alex podcast they keep patting themselves on the back that they are saving lives by publishing their podcats, literally people are driving to beachy head to kill themselves but decide not to kill themselves after listening to the podcast. Then they miss the podcast for a couple of weeks and don't mention the people that have killed themselves through them missing the podcast. Double standards, So arrogant.....

Great episode and podcast, the 3 of yous worked great, a lot of work behind the scenes but it worked out great guys. This probably works great for specials throughout the year. Best of luck for 2025 lads
Oh wow. My opinion has completely changed of this channel. Think you need to respond to Gresswells video. Dosent look good on you con artists
Taylor trying to blow the guys channel up to give him some clout. At the end of the day they run a business so want to make as much profit as possible

Keep Del! He's the best! My friends had one in Australia when I was growing up, incredible vehicle. Pulled an entire bus out of being bogged. Great stuff,

Great to see you all back at it. Appreciate life gets in the way but definitely missed these
Quite surprising that you keep collaborating with Taylor considering the E28 dealings that have come to light recently.
I love the Delica, its such a quirky vehicle! They look mega cool all decked out for over landing with raised suspension, big tyres, snorkel, lights, etc :D You’ve gotta keep Del and bling him out!

@harveywhite3001 well done you for coming out 🪂🪂🪂
Del is instantly one of my favourite cars on the channel. Just a very different car to what you usually see on car channels and you also no longer get cars with character like this so it's a cool car.
I think a build on Del would be great. I feel like sticking with the off road theme is a good route to go and maybe a new engine and gearbox.
for anyone interested in these cars, i highly recommend a holiday to Georgia, as those mountains are literally full with these cars, you can be driven in one, rent them, and do some very muddy (dangerous) mountain roads in them. spring is even more dangerous, but beautiful with all the snow!
Another absolutely wonderful story. Can't tell you how much I love these adventure videos! Thank you all and happy new year ❤
Thoroughly enjoyed this and all of your videos! Keep doing what you all do! Just don't sell out and keep it real! Ignore any haters or jealous people. You all deserve this, all the editing and behind the scenes stuff we don't see can be a nightmare I'd imagine. All the best for 2025!
Along with a few others it seems honestly this has probably been made my favourite video on your channel now, Del is a great little 4x4, get some good use! Kinda want to see him used on a camping trip and hypermiling with the ol 4 speed lol
