No sport has more emotion than NASCAR. If it's an emotion, it's NASCAR. Hearing and seeing that crowd that loud even after the race is simply incredible. Watching this brings tears to my eyes.
ive cried three times in all my life watching nascar...#3 death....harvicks win...and jrs comeback at DAYTONA....if thats not sports legacy idk what is
Still one of the greatest moments in NASCAR history. Right up there with Dale finally winning the 500, and Richard, Dale, and Jimmie winning their 7th titles
It’s emotional to even see this race! I can’t believe it’s now been 20 years since the death of Dale Earnhardt and Kevin Harvick’s first career win in a cup car
It doesn't matter what number that Goodwrench Chevrolet is flying, what color it is, or who is driving it. I will always be a fan when Goodwrench is on the hood but one thing is for sure, Never before has a driver as young as Harvick had to carry so much emotional weight for another team's tragic loss and he did it all in stride, maybe not perfect, but damn good all the same.
Harvick was a driver brought up too early and put under so much pressure. But that pressure of that legacy formed him into the best driver in NASCAR currently. He’s a true champion and this pressure made him into the great driver we see today.
where did the time go it only seems like yesterday a kid named kevin harvick filled a huge seat and won after only 3 races and never will there be a more emotional day in nascar again thank you kevin for all the memories
This is an emotional trip down memory lane that I'll always be willing to take. Great video. Long live NASCAR Hall of Famer, Dale Earnhardt and Richard Childress Racing!
I was a huge Jeff Gordon fan, but under the circumstances, I wouldn't have had that finish any other way. Dale Earnhardt fans, and NASCAR fans, needed that.
As emotional as the whole situation is you really get hit in the feels when Steve Byrnes talks to Richard Childress. Can hear it on him, lots of different emotions.
20 years to this day, I always remember Harvick as the 29, never the 4, he should have won that championship in 2020 had Nascar not screw themselves up, and I wonder what would have happened if he stayed in the 29 even after Dillon returns the 3 to the track, would he have won the championship?
Childress won 3 Cup Series points races in 2001. Here and Chicago for Harvick and Robby Gordon at New Hampshire in the finale that was rescheduled to Black Friday. The day after Thanksgiving. Which was Lowe's only points win without Jimmie Johnson.
Man there’s a lot of coincidences behind dale Earnhardt 3 races after he died harvick (his successor) won the race 3 years after his death his son won the Daytona 500 another 3 years later harvick won the Daytona 500 and it took dale Earnhardt 20 attempts to win the Daytona 500 in 1998 20 years later Austin Dillon driving the 3 car won the Daytona 500
@TheGoaltender94 I'm a casual fan of other sports, but NASCAR is what I'm a big fan of. Obviously I'm biased toward NASCAR, but I can't think of many other sporting events that were as emotionally powerful as this race.
@nickbrincks You would be surprised. I mean, this was very emotional, but I row crew and let me tell you, thats just as emotional when your in the race. Hockey is decently big too. I still love NASCAR!!!
Darrell saw Harvick was using the lapped cars on the inside as a screen against Gordon, which Mike Joy often uses the basketball term "pick". The slow car in question was a perfect example -- it was a pick that impeded Gordon.
How can you say it was horrilble. You werent even old enough to know what was going on at the time. You are what,12 or 13 now. You still are not even old enough to know the legacy of Dale.
No shit your watcing the leaders. He was talking about the slowcar being in the way of the leaders. If that slow car had been a little bit higher on the track coming out of four jeff wouldnt have had a chance to make a run.
3:48 man you can tell Mike Joy struggled to make that statement...
No sport has more emotion than NASCAR. If it's an emotion, it's NASCAR. Hearing and seeing that crowd that loud even after the race is simply incredible. Watching this brings tears to my eyes.
still makes me cry today even after all the years
Mike Joy "What could be more fitting, what could be more special"
The answer was give it a couple of months and you will get your answer!!!
anyone else tear up still?
I've never heard a louder cheer from the fans at any race in my life. So special.
ive cried three times in all my life watching nascar...#3 death....harvicks win...and jrs comeback at DAYTONA....if thats not sports legacy idk what is
Still one of the greatest moments in NASCAR history. Right up there with Dale finally winning the 500, and Richard, Dale, and Jimmie winning their 7th titles
Jimmie winning 7 was a joke
I still cry watching this
I was so fucking happy, i hate Jeff Gordon.
This is why we call Kevin Harvick The Closer!!!
Being a Jeff Gordon fan, this was the only finish I wanted him to lose.
2001 was by far the best NASCAR season I have ever watched :'(
It’s emotional to even see this race! I can’t believe it’s now been 20 years since the death of Dale Earnhardt and Kevin Harvick’s first career win in a cup car

Still brings a tear to my eye.. and I'm a Gordon fan, but I don't think anyone would have wanted a different result.. miss u Dale
where did the time go it only seems like yesterday a kid named kevin harvick filled a huge seat and won after only 3 races and never will there be a more emotional day in nascar again thank you kevin for all the memories
This is when you knew Harvick would be something special.
Finally got a well deserved Cup last season
Was robbed of a well deserved second Cup this season, 2020.
@@tomdalfonzo9959 he’ll always be the true 2020 champion. I love chase but these championships aren’t like the ones petty and Earnhardt won.
He got a consolation prize of "season champion " at Daytona in September
This is an emotional trip down memory lane that I'll always be willing to take. Great video. Long live NASCAR Hall of Famer, Dale Earnhardt and Richard Childress Racing!
and Steve Park working for DEI winning at Rockingham the first race after Dale's death.
Still brings tears to my eyes.
19 years later and I cried tonight like I did when I watched it live
All 3 in the 2001 Winston Cup Season. What a year, man.
There were no rivals that day. I think they all treated each other like family after that win.
NASCAR races here this weekend. Atlanta is one of my favorite tracks so I'm really looking forward to it. Just thought I'd point that out!
I was a huge Jeff Gordon fan, but under the circumstances, I wouldn't have had that finish any other way. Dale Earnhardt fans, and NASCAR fans, needed that.
The year is 2022 and this still brings tears to my eyes.
I’m a huge Gordon fan. Huge. But I’m glad Dale got him, just one last time. A little divine intervention. RIp Dale
"Somewhere up there...I think Dale's smiling."
to many forget why kevin harvick is in that 29. so many turned into jr fans. i was a fan of sr and have been die hard for harvick since then
i remmeber this race like it was yesterday
The greatest tribute in the history of NASCAR.
One of the best moment in any sport, How I became a Harvick fan
As emotional as the whole situation is you really get hit in the feels when Steve Byrnes talks to Richard Childress. Can hear it on him, lots of different emotions.

amazing great vitory
One Of The Coolest Moments In NASCAR History!
Childress won 3 Cup Series points races in 2001. Here and Chicago for Harvick and Robby Gordon at New Hampshire in the finale that was rescheduled to Black Friday. The day after Thanksgiving. Which was Lowe's only points win without Jimmie Johnson.
back when nascar was good
Goosebumps every time
what a great win for kevin harvick and what a way to honor dale sr.
This is why harvick is my #1
the racing was soo much better back then...hopefully the "gen 6" car will bring back good racing
“How did Jeff Gordon hang onto that car THAT loose off of turn 4?”
Jesse D also Dale Jr won the first race at Daytona after his dad died and it was exactly 11 years after Dale Sr got his first win at Daytona too
One of the best ever!!!
Top 10 most memorable NASCAR races ever
Love him or hate him, you can't help but tear up a little when Kevin drives back down the front stretch holding three fingers up.
Dale was beind Harvick that day!
this made history
I cry every time I watch this finish
I still tear up
Yeah, i'm rooting for him as well. I think RCR lost some ground, but I wish him luck next year when he is racing for Stewart in 14'.
He’s done okay with SHR lol
HAVE YOU EVER
Monster win.
No sport has more emotion than NASCAR. If it's an emotion, it's NASCAR.
@TheGoaltender94 I'm a casual fan of other sports, but NASCAR is what I'm a big fan of. Obviously I'm biased toward NASCAR, but I can't think of many other sporting events that were as emotionally powerful as this race.
Best NASCAR finish ever... :'(
4:52 just like when dale earnhardt wins the daytona 500 who with me man😀
I miss these cars so bad !!! NASCAR just plain screwed up with the COT, how many COT finishes have you seen that even come close to comparing?
@thunderbolt3597 Your point?
Part of me still thinks that Jeff let off slightly at the end.
@nickbrincks You would be surprised. I mean, this was very emotional, but I row crew and let me tell you, thats just as emotional when your in the race. Hockey is decently big too. I still love NASCAR!!!
@nickbrincks You don't know too many sports do you?
@AndrizzleCheck try 10 feet. lol
Darrell saw Harvick was using the lapped cars on the inside as a screen against Gordon, which Mike Joy often uses the basketball term "pick". The slow car in question was a perfect example -- it was a pick that impeded Gordon.
It was also a "pick" that allowed Dale Earnhardt to finally win the Daytona 500 in 1998.
"Slow Car! Slow Car!" Shut up D.W. We don't give a damn about the slow car, we're watching the leaders. Great finish.
rookie stripe my ass
take that fukn thing off that car !!
jeezus,this was beautifull
How can you say it was horrilble. You werent even old enough to know what was going on at the time. You are what,12 or 13 now. You still are not even old enough to know the legacy of Dale.
Noise Ordinance law in Richmond ... seriously ? ... on a race night.
can anyone advise the novice Nascar-fan as to logic (of this)
thank you
@dickstraten actually quite a few....nothing wrong with the cot, its called racing evolution...
No shit your watcing the leaders. He was talking about the slowcar being in the way of the leaders. If that slow car had been a little bit higher on the track coming out of four jeff wouldnt have had a chance to make a run.
i wish KH would stop acting like unhappy harvick when he is racing.
the day nascar died
