- In 2001 Kevin Harvick filling in as a replacement driver for the deceased Dale Earnhardt goes out and wins the Golden Corral 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It was truly a great day in the history of motorsports and will not be forgotten.
One last dale and Gordon moment. What a poetic ending
Had to come back and watch this. What a career in Nascar! Thanks Kevin for all the memories!
Always enjoyed watching kevin race. He had the grit, the balls, and the talent to boot. We'll see him in the hall, soon.
Exactly. How could they boo them? You're talking about 2 drivers with amazing talent, giving it their all, and Harvick won the race giving the heal to RCR, and a lot of Earnhardt fans.
Whose here after Harvick took Michigan and snapped his 65 race winless streak? THE OLD MANS STILL GOT IT
61 career wins and hopefully a few more
And Harvick never even gave me a chance to beat his burnout after beating the Lightning Challenge like he said he would.
The end.
I know I'm late watching this, but I work at the Hall of Fame and we have just the clip of the win. I was told that I had to go watch the whole thing and I now have chills..... This is an incredible moment!! WOW #3
My favorite NASCAR moment of all time. I get choked up every time I see Harvick holding the 3 up
The only race I was happy to see Gordon lose. Tears in my eyes 13 years later.
Austin Dillon should’ve never had the #3.
ThatAirForceGuy I agree
ThatAirForceGuy that punk daddy’s money driver
The #3 should have been retired after Dale passed.
@@itz_jacoby3 or given to Harvick
29 then
i went to this race when i was 5 years old with my dad. I couldnt understand why he was in tears at the end of the race. Once i was old enough to understand he told me the histroy behind it. Now im in tears watching this years later.
After all these years never have I ever. Still one of the most amazing finishes in stock car racing history
I love the fact that you even have guys from Gordon's crew giving him a high five as he passed by on pit road.
That was the day I became a Kevin Harvick fan and still am until this very day! #4thewin
I've always been a Jeff Gordon fan, but this was one day I didn't mind him finishing 2nd
1:19 "how did jeff gordon hang on to that car that loose out of turn 4?"
Because he's a fucking hall of famer, that's how..
And like him or not, one of the best to ever get behind the wheel..
the day i became a harvick fan here
Always makes me cry
Gordon is my favorite driver but I have deep respect for The 3 and DEI.
I remember being 7 years old watching this exact race on TV and being absolutely mesmerized by that finish of the race and since then have always been a die hard fan of the Closer Kevin Harvick.
LOVE KEVIN HARVICK WITH ALL MY HEART AND ALWAYS WILL
Wow! So emotional, you can hear them clapping in the box
2:20 i'm still trying to figure out how to do this burnout in NASCAR Heat 3.
Hold the clutch and gas all the way down, dump the clutch and grab the brake just enough to stop the front wheels but not the back. Pin the gas and feather the brake as necessary.
I was fine until Mike Joy's voice cracked -- then I lost it.
This race is what made me love Harvick.
This race is for the legend number 3
I get choked up every time I see this finish
Thank you for posting this.
Man listen to that crowd. That's unreal.
That was a kick butt race for Kevin Harvick!☆☆☆
3rd Race, 1st win, incredible, magical, and just down right bad F**king A*s!!!! Never forget the GOAT DALE EARNHARDT SR #3 .
Even as a rookie nobody does a better burnout! Harvick can roast 'em!
Dale pushed Kevin to victory
this year, repeat celebration
1:06 just like a year ago Gordon got lose its Harvick! Harvick by inches!
DALE EARNHARDT DRIVER WINSS WOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Imagine getting your first career win like this against Gordon
damn what a finish !
The 29 car started 5TH finished 1st on the 4th race of the season 4/29/51 Dale's birthday
Harvick drove 29 and 4
Harvick was lucky that there wasn't one more lap.
Like DW said, if it was Talladega where the start/finish line was further up, Gordon would have won.
you csn hear dw holding back from cryin
HARVICK BY INCHESSSS
And look at NASCAR since.
Have you ever??
No I never.
3:24 DW: I'm speechless yet he continues to talk for 15-20 seconds. To me, this is a great moment on TV if DW didn't talk so much in this 7 minute stretch.
Nobody would have hated Gordon if he won.
I would’ve

The last time Happy Harvick was Happy Harvick.
6/1000ths is 3/500ths
When I first read this comment I didn’t understand why you pointed that out. Wow that is crazy now I understand. Number 3... Daytona 500. 3rd race
lol
2001 Was Hailie Deegan's Born
I was also born in 2001
I was born in 2006
all planned to please the fans
The last race of NASCAR. Nascar died that day.
If you don't get emotional watching this win, then you just don't get NASCAR. It's what runs through our veins and stirs our soul.
Wow. Hearing Mike Joy get emotional on the air says it all. What a race. This is what this sport is all about.
the day we all became a harvick fan
NOTICE HE GOT HIS WIN ON HIS 3RD START!
@Nathan Cheung I think not
Now he got his 3rd win on that track
3 races after Daytona too
3/500th’s of a second was the winning margin if you reduce
god all of it is 3
When Mike Joy says "Harvick by inches" still gives me goose bumps damn near 20 years later.
It was Darrel actually
@@Waddle_Dee_With_Internet Mike Joy said a few seconds before DW did.
I’ve seen this finish a dozen times, but didn’t know Harvick did a Polish victory lap until now. I can see Alan walking up to Dale and jokingly saying “The hell man? That’s my gimmick!” Dale would smile and say “Guess we’re even for ‘92 now”.
I was there that day in Section 7 of the old Weaver grandstand (which was the front stretch until they screwed up the old oval and turned it into a cookie cutter tri-oval). I had been a huge Earnhardt fan since his rookie year and his passing was tough to accept. And still is. Anyway, I was at the race with my buddy One Eye Willie, who wasn't a big Earnhardt guy but was, like most race fans, missing him already. The last three laps I was standing up on my seat hootin' and hollerin' like everybody else at the track, while Willie was sitting down fiddling with the scanner. It was hard to tell who won from our seats, but it didn't take long for the leader board to post and the entire track went even more bonkers than it had been. I started jumping up and down pounding on Willie with tears in my eyes and he pulled the headset away from his ear and said, "What?". "He won! Harvick WON!", I screamed above the din. He looked at me funny and said, "I thought there were 328 laps?". I'll never let him live that down.
Dale Earnhardt was smiling down on this. With popcorn in one and a beer in the other hand.
3 is a weird number for this time. Dale wins Daytona 500 exactly 3 years before his death, Kevin wins in his 3rd start 3 races after Dales death and if you think more deeply you'll find more odd coincidental things.
and to add to your comment, 3 years later (2004) Dale Jr, wins the 500, and 3 years after that (2007) Harvick wins the Daytona 500.
For him to beat Jeff too, it’s crazy
He beat Gordon by 3/500’s of a second if you simplify that fraction
Illuminati confirmed
And to deepen the rabbit hole it took 20 years before sr won the 500 and 20 years later the 3 car made it back to victory lane and when jr won his first 500 in 2004 he won his 2nd 500 in 2014
Anyone here after harvick announced his retirement from the sport this year 😢
me me me!
The start of a Hall of Fame career right here. Still brings tears to my eyes 21 years later
23 years later: SUAREZ BY INCHES! SUAREZ BY INCHES! SUAREZ BY INCHES! WHAT A RACE! WHAT A FINISH!
I never get tired of watching this. God I miss Dale, still can't believe to this day that he is gone #legend
This was the moment i became a harvick fan who knew so many years later he would be just behind him in all times wins .. this was so impressive and anyone who was a fan at the time was emotional on this day.
I had watched all wins on TV all but 6 of harvicks wins and 10 in person.
Nor a dry eye left.
Such an emotional race! Such a beautiful win! And to this day I have never heard a burnout that sounded so sorrowful and almost ethereal. Like a Wolf howling for a fallen pack mate!
This should be a mandatory watch for all new NASCAR fans.
First Winston Cup race I ever watched, not understanding much or most of the names, but knowing the gravity of it all.

This moment between Richard Childress Racing and Jeff Gordon was so precious for when it happened, I have no doubt in my mind that no one on that track would have wanted that ending if their team didn't win. I really felt for Richard Childress Racing when they finally got their victory after Sr. passed. They really needed this win to recover along with the 2001 Pepsi 400.
story book ending :)
Growing up an Earnhardt fan I had a tear in my eye watching this race play out.
GORDON GOT LOOSE, IT’S HARVICK!
remember watching this race, think Gordon was 5th with 8 laps to go. Moments like this feel like fate.
20 years ago today! Wow. I still remember watching this and crying when Harv won!
you can hear other people clapping through the microphones in the broadcast booth. can't believe i never caught that
he was coming the24 was no easy victory for the rookie
It was so awesome to watch. One racing legend providing a challenge to another and providing a healing moment for a damaged crew really helped lift a lot of spirits that day. Never in my life will I forget the awesome things brought to us by NASCAR during their prime time.
And now we can call him champ
Heck yeah!
RagingMoon1987 He's been the champ long before he got that trophy and i believe he will win 1 or 2 more harvicks the man
2022 I still get emotional 😭 this race was crazy.
Best nascar moment ever.the sounds the crowd the broadcast.dale was jumping up and down just like me.i broke my mom's house pounding on walls and stuff while I was celebrating crying and going nuts i scared people in my apartment complex.amazing moment I was so happy I couldn't even think straight
Coolest burnout ever!
I was supposed to go to this race and I ended up not being able to go. I swear I would have cried the whole plane ride home.
Notice how this season consisted of the #3
3 drivers Dale Jr, Harvick, Michael
3rd race and Harvicks 1st win in a Dale Sr car
3 major wins that year. Harvicks win, Dale jr winning at Dover after 9/11, and his win at Daytona at the end of the season
Coincidence? I think not. Something about this year was truly poetic.
Let the legacy of the #3 live on!
And it was Harvick’s THIRD career cup start.
first race 6 year old me saw I cheered my heart or for the flaming car god such nostalgia
Here they come, GORDON GOT LOOSE ITS HARVICK!
2024, still gives me chills and brings a happy tear to my eye.

6 one-thousandths of a second. Amazing.

Imagine Gordon really did make his car loose so that Kevin Will win
Dude that's ridiculous. Harvick only won by 0.006 of a second, no way in hell could Gordon have done that on purpose.
@@slimbrady6691 what if he was forced too, by a slow car maybe
