In the summer of 2019, I was so shocked while I met a whole bunch of local minority people, as English speaking guides , They spoke excellent English , even I didn’t know how did they leant language so well.
I am a Hmong living in the US. Thank you for helping my Hmong children in need in the Sapa area. I was in Ta Van in June when I visited Sapa not too long ago. It was beautiful! However, before I stopped by in Sapa, I was in Meo Vac. I met a good friend who give things out to people in need. So when I got back home in the US, I sent 40 school backpacks to the friend in Meo Vac so he can give them out to the children. I'm hoping my delivery soon will reach him in a couple of weeks if it clears Vietnam Custom Clearance (in processing).
Ở Việt Nam không phân biệt dân tộc mông hay dân tộc gì khác cả ❤❤. bạn yên tâm nhà nước không để ai bỏ lại phía sau ❤❤ trẻ em đó bố mẹ họ bắt đi bán hàng.nhà nước giúp mọi cách nhưng bố mẹ họ thật ác không biết nghĩ cho tương lai con cái
I live in Lao Cai. I once welcomed students from Hanoi University of Commerce to volunteer. You were brought by the school's Youth Union and came with a pure heart, honesty and enthusiasm unlike the NGOs and USAID. Through the video, I also feel that you also come with a sharing heart. Thank you!
I've been watching you for a while on your food channel. But this time, I want to thank you for visiting this Hmong village and your genuine love to teach and support them. Great content! You just earned a new subscriber!! I am Hmong from the US and you are amazing and beautiful!!
Van, I am so glad you and your team did this. I am sure they will remember your service. I visited Sapa about 10 years ago and enjoyed hiking and visiting villages during a trek tour. May the children keep learning. The locals were friendly and I enjoyed Sapa tea ( cinnamon, ginger, lemongrass and honey).
A decade ago, my late cousin, who was an economist before retirement, spent quite a bit of time living up North to understand more about Vietnam northern ethnics. He loved them very much and advocated various things to help integrate them more into the Vietnam mainstream and raise their income. One thing he was concerned with was child marriage. Children beget children. When the mother is a child herself, little can she teach or guide her children.
This is a great way for you to continue to grow your channel and network. Food, culture, and show you visit and help teach! Very cool. Keep it up. Hope to see Vietnam one day!
Congratulations on your new "vocation"☺. As a college instructor in Automotive Technology, I very much enjoyed catching up with students after graduation to see where my instruction took them. Always rewarding. Van, may you be blessed with meeting with these children again later in life and realize the huge difference you made. Well done! BTW, my Mother-in-Laws name is Van also. She is Chinese born in Vietnam as is my wife.
Wow what a pretty location and the people in that area are so nice and welcoming I have seen others state the same thing. I will be going and exploring your country many times and Am also studying Vietnamese to more enjoy and show respect. Sapa area is Definitely high on my list to visit Thanks for doing this for the kids and making another great video. ! I appreciate your time and hard work Vân
Ah, the memories. This is exactly SaPa as I remembered it. So beautiful, so serine, so green and so peaceful. I was fortunate enough to do a tour with Van last month and she took us to this region as she wanted us to see a part of Vietnam unspoilt by tourism. In many ways it was the best part of the tour although it is a little hard to choose as Van had designed to tour to show us many aspects of Vietnam. Van, is as genuine, warm, caring and friendly as she appears in her videos. She is so much fun and a pleasure to travel with. how she had time to fit this into her already very busy schedule goes to show how much she cares about this region. I highly recommend her book "the ultimate Vietnam travel e-book" as it is well presented and full of information.
Thank you Neal for your kind words! I was very impressed with your trekking skills. Sapa is definitely missing you! Can't wait to see you back in Vietnam
Your kindness and genuine compassion really shine through in this video. Thank u for spreading such positivity and your warm-hearted approach to the lives of others. Love u - chị Vân xinh đẹppp!!!
I used to do these kind of volunteer charity work when I was in high school in the Vietnamses Student Association. That’s really good of you to give back. Most UA-camrs in VN Live and utilize make money from the Vietnamese people and country but never gave anything back.
Good job Van! teaching on travels is one of the best experiences I made :-) and even it was raining the whole week we spent in Sa Pa it was one of my favourite places in Vietnam, so green, so chilled and surrounded by these beautiful mountains with miles of great trekking routes.
What a meaningful experience, thank you for sharing, Vân ơi! Your travel content already continues to be amazing, but it's another level when you bake connection and the human experience into your travels. 🙏🏼😃
Hey Van, based on your most recent video you must be in or near Sapa, Vietnam. I've been watching the news on Typhoon Yagi and the destruction it has caused in the area, it's devastating to watch. I hope you're safe and doing well and I want to let you know that our prayers go out to you and the people of Vietnam!
You're such a wonderful person, helping these kids. Also I'm surprised as I thought you were born and raised in USA but had moved to Viet Nam, the country where your parents had been born, due to your native English fluency and no accent. I taught English throughout Asia in my early 20s. :)
Hey Cutie, could you please do a video on vehicles and motorcycles purchase prices and a comparison to Australian and American dollar values for those considering moving to Vietnam ❤
Great job on this video. Excellent content. Great that you are helping the children learn English and giving back to the community. You are so honest and humble. Thanks Van.
I have bought a ticket to Hanoi for September and October. Sapa is one region of many regions I have not visited last time I went to Vietnam. But I am already looking for going to this region. Your video is on time. If you have any recommandation about how to get there I am all ears.
Great video Van! I have a friend in Vietnam who teaches me some Vietnamese while I teach her English. I show how to pronounce English words using the Vietnamese alphabet. Like, Delicious = Đi Li sơx 😂😂😂
There was a post ~ 15-20-yr ago on Facebook on why the Vietnam government should impose its national law regarding family planning and children's welfare on the minorities. The article argues that the government should not have the misguided "noblesse oblige" attitude about "respecting the ethnic culture and tradition," and allow the practice of marriages below the national legal age of 18, resulting in families with children in poverty. Furthermore, the author advocated the government encourage young ethnic minorities to travel to cities for colleges, for higher education, modern skills, and better economic opportunities (which also help delay marriages). The author argued that "respecting the ethnic culture and tradition" is what in the West is known as a soft form of racism. If Kinh Vietnamese parents want their children to go to colleges for a better life, and the government encourages higher education/skills, then there is no reason why any citizen of Vietnam, ethnic minority or not, should not be encouraged to do so. If the so-called "tradition" should be upheld, then all Kinh Vietnamese should have lived like in the 18th century, instead of adopting modern culture and lifestyle. The Hmong, the Viet people in the US live like Americans, while still preserving their cultural heritages. But no Hmong in the US continues any practices incompatible with the US law like "capturing a wife" or having marriages below the legal marriage age. In a Unicef publication "CURRENT SITUATION AND TRENDS OF MULTIDIMENSIONAL CHILD POVERTY IN VIET NAM" (2021), it states: "Ethnic minority children have a very high rate of multidimensional poverty ... than Kinh and Hoa children because of the higher deprivation rate of all the indicators" (Exec Sum. p. 2). The Vietnam government must take responsibility for this lack of progress.
My exposure to HMong is going to school with brothers named Prim and Thim, in the US, from 1995 to 1998. I lost touch after 1998. Has no idea what they are up to now.
With how good your English is, I would have thought it was close to a first language for you or you went to like an international school. How did you develop your English to basically no foreign accent / how old were you when you were able to speak English like a native.
@@WhatThePho wow. you are such a quick learner. I thought once you past like elementary school age, learning to speak a foreign language without foreign accent would have been incredibly hard.
" Đi học đi. Có đi học không?" Indeed, being a poor kid is not a reason to quit school and work in the street. Their parents should be ashamed of that situation.
I am a filipino muslim planned to go in Sapa this coming October. Is it safe for muslim to visit there? Can you recommend any halal restaurant there? Thanks in advance.
It is a double-edged sword, they learn English and then they leave their homes and families, and not all of them will find a better life. There is something to be said for living a simple life in the countryside.
Gee! I can't recognize Saba anymore, Except the Old Church. Well, I hope that Vietnamese Tourism should realize what first hand the tourist want to visit Saba

Very good story, your English is so good, you speak English better than some of the people I know here in America. You're a sweetheart.🇻🇳💪❤❤

The Vietnam 2023 birthrate is 1.8. I bet the rate is much higher among the ethnic minorities, which only makes the problem of child poverty worse.
That place look beautiful. Hope to go back to Vietnam soon. I’ll be sure to add this place to places I should visit.
I pray these children will have bright future. Thanks for sharing this video.
