As a former multifamily PM, be aware of burnout. It is very possible in the construction industry. I have had to work plenty of late nights and weekends due to a high workload. You can easily work 60+ hours on a 40 hour salary and your employers wont stop you, therefore, if you actually run the numbers, you aren't being paid nearly as much as you think. PTO was another issue that I constantly faced. I had plenty of it but could not take any due to having to run 4-5 projects at a time. Your projects are like your babies, no one but YOU will be willing to take care of them. Other PMs will turn a blind eye when you need time off as YOUR project is YOUR baby. The video talks about the good, I'm here to mention the "possible" bad.

The salary curve (timeline to hit top salary) is very drawn out. The job itself is almost a 24-7 role. Where as a site manager (superintendent in America I believe) is almost fixed hours. The salary is similar, and it's regular weekends off and cover for holidays. It's looking more like the role I'll settle in.

I also worked in our VDC group as a Lidar Engineer, then went back to the field as a Senior Field Engineer. I am now wanting to move over to a Superintendent role, knowing that my 16 years of Field Engineering will bring me great strengths as a Superintendent. All of this WITHOUT a degree, and a make 6 figures. Hard work pays off!

Great video I myself completed a four year apprenticeship as a cement mason I am now a journeyman. I also completed another four year apprenticeship as an Ironworker . I want to work my way up to a superintendent business owner.👍
This is experience all for a large general contractor near Nashville Tn At 20 i was a concrete laborer At 23 became form carpenter At 27 became crew leader At 29 im a assistant supervisor I am currently running a 3 million dollar parking lot project Lots of storm drainage and structures Now 2 weeks ago we got a p.o for a 15 million dollar expansion These projects are right next to each other. Im in the meetings im involved in saftey plans and communicating with customers. I’ve worked extremely hard I failed at times and learned. But you make a lot of videos on people who are in higher positions but I’m a laborer for Holder construction for 3 months so far I love it and of course one day down the road want to become a superintendent and all that other cool stuff. But how do I show the company that I really want to improve myself to grow in the company and so they can sometime pull me to the side and give me some tips and or walk me through the process
I recommend learning software and focusing on your personnel/leadership development like the video mentions. Learn outside of your job. Get familiar with BlueBeam, ProCore, Excel, Word, etc. Learn about RFIs, takeoffs, change orders, and get to know your vendors. You will need more than field experience to become a super. Shadow your current super and attend their meetings. Good luck and hope this helps.

But I’ve never worked with my hands. My firm is really small so I want to apply for project manager positions out there. Is that realistic for me?
I recommend that you round out any experience you think might be needed, really work on your resume, add in any experience you possibly can that would qualify you for a PE, APM, or PM position and interview continually.

I haven’t finished any degree as of yet. In my first year of school. Debating whether to transfer to a 4 year bachelors program at a university or just get my associates if that is enough.
@@5307andrew I landed an APM position with only my associates in CM. It all depends on the company that you are applying to. Some care about the degree, some don't. If I was in your position, I'd be applying for jobs after completing my associates and IF I couldn't land a job after a couple of months, I'd consider going back for the 4 year degree. My assumption is that you will be able to find something with your 2 year degree though. GL!

Company owners are usually very understandable and helpful to students when they show that they really want to keep learning, and growing, and helping in every department. Specially when you are not afraid to get your hands dirty and wear any hat in the company. Short answer in my opinion, yes. Get your bachelor's and keep working in the industry at the same time. Usually with an Associate's Degree you can get a lot of opportunities from good companies so don't be afraid to change jobs if you see there is not much room for growth at your current company. Yes I do the field reviews and I am the one that talks with the contractor to clarify drawings and other issues.
