@@DieselBoatMan I have a 1964 D40. It's starting to show great patina and will sound better as it ages. I've had it for about 20 years. If I could learn to play it, it would sound even better.
Thanks for the excellent review. You both do a great job and I watch a bunch of your reviews. Your review helped me in my decision to but the traditional D-40. This thing is a cannon fo sho!
Now Quinton's strumming at the very end of the video has really reminded me of some good old acoustic records. If I've heard that unseen, I'd definitely think Gibson. But now that's Guild! Gotta check.
I bought one yesterday, picking it up next week. Wanted a D55 but high end guitars are like rocking horse shit right about now. The D40 I bought was literally the only new one for sale in the UK!
Hope you're happy with it Brody. I own a super expensive Martin guitar, but the Guild D-40 is one of my favorites. Just wish it came with a neck width of 1 3/4".
I played a d18 a couple years ago which on paper is the better guitar Nitro lacquer handfit dovetail blah blah, strummed it, sounded ok, dug in it sounded good, welp picked up the humble guild d40 satin finish mortise and tenon neck, going for 900 less at the time, no sooner strummed a chord and said holy shit with a stunned look on my face, it had a depth to it that made the d18 sound lifeless. Could have also had old strings on it haha. But needless to say, They're doing something right at guild!!. Proud owner of a guild m20 in satin sunburst. Looking to add this one to my collection. In a heartbeat
That is a boomer. I wonder how the articulation is in-person? Love that Guild is moving up. Love that it's American made. Love the price point. Love your "doodles," Quinton!
Guild has always been up. Even their 'Made in China' models are far above most other high end brand models. In my opinion, Guild 12 string jumbos are the best on the market to date. Always has been and that is what Guild is renowned for.
I have one, shockingly good. It’s my best sounding guitar. I have a Taylor, Martin, kremona, I want to like the Martin and Taylor better because the darn neck is so narrow. This guitar sounds amazing but for me doesn’t play as nice as my others
@@soofitnsexy Hey Chris, this is also a guitar that you can typically pick up for half of a D18 tho - definitely has more of a Gibson Advanced Jumbo thing than a a Martin thing going.
And that's a good thing, Guild is king and Taylor is prince. These are real acoustic guitars and I'm fortunate to have one, and ironically it's because my Taylor was stolen and I needed another guitar.
Just played a D 40 today at a local music store. I was blown away. It sounded better than a lot of the old Martins they had there.
The guy on the left seems to have a solid wood bracing in his back... lol
Lol.
I love you for this comment 🤣
I have a Guild D40 1981 - It is still AMAZING!
Mine is a 1972 D40, I play it everyday, and still love it.

I bought a new one a couple years ago. It may take longer than the rest of my life to open up. I like my D-20, all hog, much better.
“It’s big..”
“You like that?...”
... Yep
Bought a used D-40 Sunburst which should be here next week. Thanks for the great vids!

Man, that is a particularly good D-40. Nice full sound.
The late Richie Havens played a Guild D-40. Lots of pictures of him with it on the net.
I just bought my new D40 this afternoon..love at first sight and in the tobacco sunburst🖤
I wish he was 🤫
so is that mahogany back and sides?

Great playing and great sound!
It sounds cavernous, I'm loving Guilds nowadays and becoming obsessed LOL, thanks for showing it.
I like it! Great depth and less crispness than a lot of dreads, which is what my ears like.
So this is the d40E? Right?

I’ve played a few, and they are great. Like it better than my Martin HD-28V. They play great too.

Bruh some of your favorite old rock songs were born from. A guild
I don't like the sound of this guitar but I like the sound of d55 at least the ones I've heard
Play it in person, because nobody would ever say that after playing one. I own the Traditional and it retired my HD-28. Nuff said.
I’m with you. I think the D18 sounds better than the D40 but every D55 I’ve played just floored a D28.
This or an HD28 or & J200??
totally different
I wish Guild would bring back the D-50. It's a rosewood guitar without all the D-55 bling.
Sounds like a new guitar. I'd go used.
what is the main difference between D20 and D40s?
The D20 is an all-mahogany guitar. The D40 has a spruce top.
Alvarez Masterworks or Guild D140 ?
Mmm... if you play bluegrass go for alvarez
@@bewusstsein3527 hi i have the same question, have you played both guitar if so whats the differnce in sound, im not a bluegrass player
Does anyone know if martin bridge pins will fit in a guild
American Guilds...pretty close. If you are going for bone pins Bob Colosi has a great tool for measuring and ordering pins.
3 Guilds are nuff i think

Don't like it as much as these guys do. Not a lot of overtones. Big sound but not very much sweetness.
You need to hear one in person and reserve your opinion until then. Guild guitars are amazing sounding and have plenty of "sweetness".
@@patrickclark3337 This guy is probably listening to it on his Apple earbuds. NO substitute for in-person.
agreed its good but not even close to a d18

@@idontgrillonwed heyy recently bought the martin short scale d18 from music Villa! Mind blowing! at a fair price!! best acoustic Ive owned
That's DEFINITELY not a V-Brace :)

Weird it takes two guys to review one guitar. At least the playing is better than the last guy who did the reviews.
If you don't like it, go somewhere else.
Review the D-40 Traditional (Scalloped Bracing), when you get one in! Sounds better than the one in this video.
