Wow, Ian! This is as close as possible to playing these guitars myself in real time. So very helpful to me as I continue to research my next acoustic guitar. These are all super! Many thanks!
Ian, I really love your channel! I own a lot of the guitars you sample... and, I also use your channel to help A/B guitars I'm planning on buying. I have a D-18, and sold my '79 Guild D-40 (I prefer the Martin), and I've never owned a E10-D, but I have an Eastman E20 OM Torrified, E10 00 SS/V, and an Eastman MD 515 F style Mandolin. Eastman makes fantastic guitars. But, along with my Gibson J-45 and J-150, I'm pretty settled in the acoustic department (along with my Alvarez Baritone acoustic, Vintage Yamaha L Series 12 String, and my Dobro Resonator). And, you've helped me along the way to make some choices. Keep on sampling, brother!!!
The Guild is very huge. Really loud guitar. The D 18 has that Martin tone we all know and love. The Eastman is a beautiful sounding guitar, but the Guild and the Martin are my favorites.
The Martin definitely has that bluegrass thing, but I think I'm digging the Guild in this one because of its bigger low end. I'd take either. Or both. Yeah both might have to do.
Guild is the guitar I would take with me to another planet, then the Martin, then the Eastman... the Eastman is a young upstart (I own a gypsy jazz guitar by Eastman and it is Excellent) but I'd have to go with the longer lived name brands here and though overall Martin is the favorite, in this case I'd go with Guild. I do own a Martin HD28 and a Guild 12 string but just bought a Guild D40 which I don't have yet....
D18 again, but that Eastman sings when picked. Thing to remember is sound and choice is guitar-inspired. Need to play em to get that, but this is near to realising that. Thanks Ian.
I know everyone says have to play them all, but good luck finish a place to play them all these days, and never ever get to play them in the same store in one sitting. You literally have to order all three and send two back.
Does the D18 have the as installed from factory Martin Medium gauge P.B. strings ? Does the E10D have the factory installed light gauge EJ/EXP16 strings? The string difference is noticeable.. I have a E10D 2011 and it is a monster with Medium strings even more so than with light gauge. My D18 Martin isn't close in output/volume/bass/resonance to my E10D with same strings. The E10D is a very loud guitar.
The Martin rings out the best with better articulation.Great volume as well. The Guild sounds rounder and more blended. The Eastman has less volume, and is made in China. I'll take the Martin.
If you listen over and over again the Eastman surprisingly comes out on top in a few areas. It’s between the Martin and Eastman. The Guild is solidly good but somewhat too bassy or boomy after a while. For the price I’d say the Eastman punches well over its weight and just comes on top. There are bits where the Martin edges it but not a lot. But then again in person that might be very different and with different strings and gauges as is usually the case.
Very cool demo. The Eastman isn't terrible but the Guild and Martin really stand above it, with the Guild being my favorite (altthough I might like the Martin best fingerpicked)
@@ianmeadows6351 Is there a difference tonally between the regular d-40 and the d-40 traditional? I've been looking at the regular d-40 as an upgrade but I can't afford the traditional so I was wondering if there was a big difference there.
@@tomformanek3312 - How is his comment biased and closed minded? He said he played ALL THREE in person and his favorite is the Martin. It's subjective.

The crown an d the scepter on the Guild headstock are there for a reason.

Your demos are very good and very welcome. No BS. This is the way it should be done.
Thank you my friend. Thanks for watching.
I could listen to any of them all day long, but have been a Guild fan since my first Guild 12 string in 1970.

A Martin sounds like a Martin? Strange!

I say both! I always say both.
or all 3

Is the guild the standard or the traditional?
Wow all are amazing love the tones of all of them . that Eastman is very impressive
I like martin d18 both sound and sound character.
Guild takes the cake, then Martin, then the Eastman. IMO.

Was this the guild standard (satin) or traditional (gloss) hard to tell
This is the standard model
@@ianmeadows6351 I think you're wrong. The standard headstock is more plain than that.
@@douglovestheinternet right this is the traditional.

Eastman is super bright and warm. They all sound good. I’ve played the eastman and the Martin. It’s a toss to personal preference
Is that the guild d40 traditional? Thank you
Hi Vic, yes it is.
@@ianmeadows6351 thanks

Guild D-40, all the way!
Eastman for the win!
I will never sell my Ambertone D-18.
d 18 is king!! eastman was vey good
Guild sounds the best and plays the best of the three. Listen in person, not some UA-cam compressed recording.
@@mitchblack4241 That is completely biased and so untrue. Pretty biased and closed minded my friend.

Epiphone
I guess it's got to be the Guild all the way
