Ultimately, Glory Hunter is a great idea, in concept. However, it is a huge undertaking you've now done for several years and every year it's caused issues for your channel regarding burnout and episode fatigue. This happened last year too. You've had your most fun in Football Manager telling more narratively oriented stories like Salford and Thames. Perhaps next year if you are still committed to FM as a creator it's time to ditch Glory Hunter and pick another small team in an unusual league to get invested in once more. Lean into your natural ability to create humor and narrative. The best bits of your series have not come from the mechanics of the game, they have come from you as an individual making the game interesting (BenSportsNews, G, Shouten etc). Lean into that more and you may find that things open up for you a bit more as to what you can do as a creator

@@DoctorBenjyFM It was great, and I can completely understand as a creator wanting to keep going with new things to retain audience interest (doing Thames part 2 etc). However, you've reached a point now where it isn't fulfilling your own interests, which for me is the sign there needs to be new ideas and perhaps not putting so much emphasis on waiting for bold new game mechanics which are potentially unlikely to arrive

The way it was told to me about my streaming was if I'm not enjoying the game people will be able to tell and won't enjoy it. If you aren't enjoying something I'd prefer you make a video and say something and I would understand 100% than put out content that isn't what you want to do. Do what's best for you

Hello folks, a bit more of a serious video, I don't really need 'solutions' or anything, I'm just telling you how things are, the solution would be for Football Manager to make some changes that made me feel like I was playing a greatly improved version of a game I've loved for decades, so I guess I'm sort of... waiting for that, but it doesn't mean I want to stop playing forever, and it certainly doesn't mean that I want to stop making content.

I think because Glory Hunter 1 was quite possibly the best Football Manager content seen by many (certainly by me) it has set a precedent in your head as to the level you need to be at, putting undue pressure on yourself. I’m sure I speak for many when I say we are all loving this series and appreciate all the effort, especially if personally you feel like your flagging. 1 video a day, 2 a day, 1 a week… who cares, whatever you want to upload we’ll be here to watch.
Honestly though if you don’t upload more I’m unsubscribing (joke)

  • @AndySport

You’re such a good storyteller, I think you should lean into that strength. Glory Hunter requires so many seasons, many of which are going to be relatively boring domestically, it’s just a huge commitment to tell the story. I would love to see you do something without a specific long-term goal. I don’t want to tell you what to do but I think being able to play the game at your own pace and not have to rip through seasons just to get to the good bits could help your relationship with the game. Ultimately though, you’re making art here and it’s hard to create something you don’t believe in. You say it’s like any other job, but creating is not like any other job. Make episodes when you want, start a new series, bin off FM, whatever you need to do. You have to be invested if it’s going to work. I’m sure you’ll find an audience for anything you choose to do.

  • @Hmmhattricker

I praise your brutal honesty. And remember, it's not as important as it may feel sometimes, to give your fans their daily episode or whatever. Watching your episodes is a luxury, and none of us want you to develop any mental problems out of it. Keep yourself invested in your family, and only do this when you feel like it. Otherwise, the content quality will decline too.
And I agree with UCG, Glory Hunter seems to be killing the joy of FM (even though it's a great concept). But we all learn from trying! And kudos for trying! And thanks for being a great person. :)

This potential burnout on the series is exactly why I never bought into the series and stopped watching very early on. Personally at this point I don't think I could buy into a series of yours moving forward because it almost seems inevitable that a series will never reach a conclusion and will just end abruptly.
I think you'll need to radically rethink how you approach FM content wise if you still even wish to make content on the game anymore. Wish you the best of luck Ben and hope in the future I see a series that is 50,60,70 episodes in going strong, and I'll dive back in.

Been around since Parma, I agree with the sentiment that you’re generally at your comedic best during a single team long term save. Salford, Spal, Parma & Thames were all incredible. I do really enjoy the Glory Hunter concept, but maybe it’s something that needs a couple of year gap between them? I could see it becoming a little samey in terms of creating content.
I don’t know, burnout and apathy are hard to combat. But if there’s something that you can find that genuinely excites you to dive into this game with passion, I’m sure everyone would be overjoyed to watch whichever journey you wanna go on. It would be sad to see the Hunter end prematurely again, but honestly, your mental health and enjoyment comes first.

I think the Streamer Showdown and Network Game with Z, WTS and Lollujo breathed new life into FM, the former well timed with the escapism the game brought to many over lockdown. I'm sure I am not alone when I say no showdowns for months and no network save this cycle have been a huge miss. It definitely seems like a lot of the SS crop of FM creators have lost interest/burnt out or lost interest at the same time.

    • @axelgonzalez2806
      @axelgonzalez2806 Рік тому

A part of that is also that the network game and streamer showdown just don't bring the views and engagement numbers that make this a viable job. A lot of creators would probably like to be able to do a lot of different things within just FM itself, and while fans *say* they would support them if they did, their view habits say otherwise.

I think your best series are when you do single save narratives. Maybe something like that but give yourself rules at the start to make it a challenge such as only UK nationals, like Bilbao but with a newly created team on tioer 8 or something.
That adds the difficulty FM needs and doesn't tiesa you top a 20 year save.

I've noticed the same thing with Kev: you don't seem in love with a save. Maybe it's because you're managing big teams? And there's no storylines? And no characters? Like the best Kev videos are when he's managing some random team in Switzerland or in non-league in my opinion because you can tell he's invested and I have the same experience when I play FM. Same with you from what I've seen, Thames was prime Ben for me but when you're managing Newcastle with real players you see in real life every week maybe there's less of an escapism element? I know you probably aren't looking for 'solutions' even though I would say it could just be that having played FM for so long its entirely possible you're burned out a bit of what is essentially the same game every year, especially considering that lets be honest, SI haven't innovated nearly enough with the game over the last few years, the game needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom I think, especially the match engine, it's so annoying to spend all this time building your team and tactics and then you get into what is a god awful match engine to watch your players do unexplainable things that just put you off.
I personally feel like the best content you have made is when you have been able to use the game as the basis for incredible journeys/stories (Salford, Parma, Thames/AFC). Is that kind of content not something you're interested in anymore or have you thought about it at any point?
Either way I love the content and I am sure you will come up with ways to make the game fun for you, and consequently us until, hopefully, FM24 brings a good number of improvements to make the game better.

How I feel about this is that it's a job most people would love to have, if you don't like that theme then think of/pick a new save to get into. You're providing for your family with football manager content,. find the motivation to keep doing it, like everyone else that has a family to provide for that has normal jobs. reduce the frequency of FM content a week, pick a theme you can get into more, and use the spare days to produce the other content you want to do that gives you that break from constant FM.

But still, I am in the exact same position as you when it comes to playing FM. I've had stints of playing it a bit but thats it. Quite burnt out atm, at some point it just becomes the same old, not that its a bad thing tho necessarily, but that's how it is with anything you do for that much.
Still love your videos as much as I've done since 2016/17. Story lines are the most important and they're still going to be there in this save! Cheers.

I've never understood these people who get annoyed with UA-cam people for not putting out enough content/the content they want to see. They don't owe you anything.
If Ben had these videos behind a monthly subscription where said subscription fee promised a certain quality and quantity, and he wasn't delivering that, then you'd have cause to complain as you wouldn't be getting what you paid for. But you aren't paying, these are free. You'll get what you're given and you should have the grace to say thank you.
Thank you, Ben. I don't really care what the save is or how often the videos are, I just enjoy spending some of my day listening to you get excited over a spreadsheet.

On topic; play something else mate. No one is holding a gun to your head to play this particular game. Play a different managing game or a completely different genre altogether.
Another option would be to do a regular job for a few months. You'll come crawling back to Football Manager and love it for another 5 years at least. But another format is not going to help you. You can coach the Andorra national team and go from there but it's still the same game and same meta that you'll end up applying.

I've watched your channel grow from Boston Boys, Salford, Thames FC and the OG Glory Hunter. I've not watched everything and I'm not going to (I'm old and have responsibilities sadly) but I've always appreciated what you've done. The humour, the honesty, the creativity. I've looked at other FM channels but don't think I've even finished an episode of them.
And recently I had a bad health diagnosis. Like, really bad. Obviously I had lots to consider but I wanted to make sure and finish Glory Hunter before I did. 😅
It helped, it was 15-20 minutes to chill and not think about what was potentially coming my way. Now this isn't to say, you have to stay and always create content but I just wanted you to know that it's helped me get through some dark dark times.
And, happy ending, I just had the results of the latest scan and I'm all clear!

I can feel myself from time to time. It is difficult. I don't have it as a job but I feel pressured to produce content and that sometimes takes the enjoyment out of it.
In the end. you can't make everyone happy. But if you do what you want and enjoy, I am sure that more people than not will appreciate and watch your content, because you are a great entertainer and even better person.

You do you. External noise is exactly that, and you shouldn't be disheartened by negative feedback. Look through unnecessary abuse and create constructive criticism from it yourself. Then either choose to use it to your advantage, or dismiss it as you deem necessary.
Don't let childish or immature minds bring you down as they can't help it, and it doesn't (in the grand scheme of things) affect you at all, unless you allow it to. You're in control.
You probably help some people get through their day with your content, but that doesn't make you accountable if you don't make as much as people want, as the only thing you should be concerned with is what makes you happy, and what is right for you. If that also makes someone else happy, then that's a bonus, but it shouldn't be what you judge yourself on.
I think the majority of people respect you and your content, and you're never going to please everyone, and trying to do so is unhealthy.
Continue to do what you want as it makes for genuine and entertaining content.
I've not watched any of your stuff for a while, and I've found myself in a similar boat to yourself with FM recently.
I've binge watched up to this episode in the last 2-3 days and it's given me that buzz for it again, and I've started my own Glory Hunter as a result (which I've never actually tried myself before).
That was a long message for something you probably won't read on a video that is 1 month+ old 😅
But yeah, you do you 👍🏻

I love UCG's analysis and largely agree with it. I'm not going to try to second guess your discontent with FM but I've found the changes of the last 3 or 4 years have made it a much better simulation but maybe not such a fun game. As I mainly play it for the simulation, this works for me. As a consumer of your (and other's) content, though, I've been disappointed. This is partly because 2 of my favourite creators are really just streaming now, which I don't have time for and don't really enjoy; while another one has stopped altogether. But if you're not having fun, your content is going to suffer, because it shows. I have faith. Your genius lies in the story and the humour you bring to the telling of it. You'll recapture that, just maybe not in FM23.

I think a large part of your boredom is the fact that you haven't changed your saves enough. That coupled with the fact that this year's game hasn't evolved enough has left you feeling like you're doing the same thing over and over. Your best saves are when you're building a club up and weaving a narrative around that. Its why I think you've lost interest in the Twitch save too, you've just ended up at another big club. I think you need a lower league club and really try to get invested in them. Maybe another continent and have fun with it? I know you've said you're against South America because of Brazil, but Argentina is fine.

Echo many comments about the entertaining aspect being you and not the game.
Not being a content creator, i dont know whether this suggestion would be both fun and entertaining, but could you tweak the format to something like the following?
    - Try to win the cup, league and champions league with one team e.g. Newcastle as quick as you can.
    - Then you change country and try to do that again, without signing any of the same players as before.
It feels like it could replicate aspects of Gloryhunter?

If the grind of playing each game isn’t appealing - you can spend more of your time planning transfers and scouting Regens. Since content creation is what you enjoy the most, perhaps it'd be helpful to make content about other things - perhaps the actual game like how Zealand has been, but also perhaps a different game? I know I watch not because of the save but because of the entertainment and I reckon a few more are the same way.

As another commenter mentioned, the game is merely a platform for your charisma and that's what makes your content stand out. Other creators rely on a deep understanding of the game for their content and that's great. I get the sense I and many others would enjoy anything you put out because it's you that's enjoyable.

I wonder if with Glory Hunter the scale of what you want to achieve adds to the anxiety you were talking about. Rather than forcing yourself into trying to win everything, maybe just streamline things down to the main league and cup competitions in each of the top 5 leagues, and worry a bit less about collecting all of the European tournaments. Could shorten the number of seasons so you don't feel like it's such an epic scale task.

I really enjoy all the content you put out, whether that be FM or the Weathermen. I feel that you are at your best when you are able to do something creative/different and unfortunately this current iteration on FM has not changed enough to allow you to possibly tell a different story from that of your previous series. I am still really excited to see where this story goes with Newcastle but I would hate to feel like you are forcing something for the sake of it. Every year you always have created a new type of series or concept within FM whether that is something as large scale as Glory Hunter or saving Derby with a no striker system, and it must be a challenge to create something new with something that is largely the same game as last year. From a selfish perspective I hope you do create daily content but I understand how it is to do something that you are forcing, especially if you are your own boss / forced to by the UA-cam algorithm.
