Fun fact about this song, Wendy from Prince's band recorded the original guitar track with a Tele, a Tweed Twin, a slapback delay, and a compressor. That's it.
Love the sliding coily sound of a bracelet or ring or something sliding along the wound string - heard it since I was a little one in the back of a Ford Explorer
Nobody mentions the slide into the intro? The slide is the very first thing you hear. I mighty add that this should be staright forward on the drums as well, It sounds like a simple money beat with a double kick on 3 with 8th notes on the closed hi-hat. I am learning drums now but ryan keeps pulling my strings here.
This is the first time seeing this video...prior to seeing it, I have worked on My Favorite mistake...no tab...just by ear and watching and listening to the audio in the videos of Cheryl Crow and band playing it...the tricky part for me was the bridge...where they were going with the chord changes...Bm to Bb to F to G...etc...it's a way cool progression...and there are some details that are within the "Did you know? Could you tell you were the only one..." section...and what I call the "bop baddaaaa-bah" lick...how to voice that properly...it's done in octaves...there are a few what I call "ear candy treats" that if a person isn't paying attention, they may miss them, or "mistakenly" deem them unimportant to take the time to figure them out...which some listeners might not notice, others subconsciously notice, and others blatantly notice, but not really bug them too much that it isn't there...I suppose it depends on how much time you have to spend to get it as close as possible to the studio cut...I will say that this song has chord inversions and things done in it that are absolutely NOT how I naturally play...not everywhere in it, but it is absolutely the case, nonetheless...still haven't watched this video...going to now...thanks in advance for taking the time to do it, and hope you and yours are doing fantastic.
Great tutorial. thanks for breaking it down. One thing ..on the g chord of the chorus, I think they "walk" the bass note down one fret before going to the e chord.
I’m from Missouri so Sheryl Crow is kinda a legend round these parts... already knew this song but checked out this vid just cuz I knew you could teach me something new! As always you came through!
dude, with timestamp. You rock thanks for the info. i like how she remembers exactly what she did 30 years ago. that woman is a monster. haha she kept that 5th in there the whole time i've never pondered playing that chord that way before. wow.
Your choice of descriptive sound words was fantastic today. I will go tell my mom and end it with a beeeeu. Or however you spell it. P.s. I think you're growing into a thumb guy right before our eyes.
My guilty pleasure. Actually, in my car I'll tell Android Auto to "Play Cheryl Crow" with the whole family in there, I'm not embarrassed. I really like the electric guitar tone on her records. Last week though I was alone in the car and played Whitney Houston for like 45 minutes while running errands around town ;-) I made a mental note to try to learn that sax solo in "I Will Always Love You" by ear on the guitar, should be a fun ear training session.
Great lesson, started off very easy to follow then half way through you crancked it up to what is for me, light speed, calling out numbers all over the place. Then you slowed it back down a bit. Maybe I shouldn't be attempting this sort of thing as a relertive beginer. It's just the normal stuff doesn't really appeal to me.
@RyanLendt it's a lot more enjoyable than perfecting wonderwall. I don't fully understand chord progression yet but I can hear the variations on simple chords that add so much nuance, learning how to do them is very interesting.
@RyanLendt So....11 month later I can play the verse with EASE! Honestly it felt completely impossible last year 😁 Also! I am playing pretty much everything here, just need to get used to playing the chorus and bridge with good timing so it sounds right then I can pick up the speed and play the song! Guitar is insanely hard! It's the hardest thing I've ever done, but so rewarding and a great reminder of how possible things become if your can dedicate yourself to it! Thanks for the lesson, it's really not that fast of a pace, I was just slow 🙏👊
Bring my axe to a first date dinner and in between dinner and dessert start playing I can just hear it now….i am a mistake! Well you’re definitely not my favorite! And she walks out
Main riff (boom, chock, hammer, ting) 2:30
Chorus 5:17
Bridge 7:02
I asked for her like 6 months ago. I've been waiting patiently. So excited
:) YOU put this bug in my brain!
Thanks!
Im so in love with Sheryl crow during the 90s up until now
:)
She was a goddess back then !!
Still is!
10/19/22. Wednesday, 5:01 am. Down south in Myrtle Beach it’s 43 degrees. Way up north in Cutler , Maine, it’s 61 degrees. Take care, Ryan.
try 28 in the very early morning at my house today - we had our first fire of the year last night. But it'll be warmer next week.
Hi Ryan, this is my favorite song to play by Sheryl and I heard the mistake was Eric Clapton. Such a great song and lesson Ryan. Peace.
My all time favorite! I learned how to play the guitar to The Globe sessions. Love it ❤

yeah I did it in the middle but didn't say anything. figured those who cared to could work it out.
Definitely not a mistake. Cool song, fun guitar moves.
Happy 90.4k! That’s a lot of k’s.
haha one might say more than roger clemens
Was both fun AND helpful. I gotta play this Saturday so thank you very much!
good luck!
Omg I always wanted to learn this song :))) thank you! ❤

The Riff Queen and Ryan too! This is ridiculous fun to play.
it was subsequently stuck in my head for a whole week
Nicely presented, definitely entertaining.
thank you karl
What a song.... This is my current project. Great job, Ryan!
This is by far the best lesson for this song.
Great lesson Ryan. Thanks. 🎉
pleasure m'dude!
Thanks from France. Merci beaucoup ! C’est super d’être synthétique.
merci mon ami.

Fantastic lesson. Thank you. Comprehensive and quick.
One of my all time favorite riffs right here! Would love for you to do some more from The Globe Sessions.
A real man would learn them all.
not to worry friend I'll do a bunch :)
You always make it seem sooooo easy...
I will join Patreon for this. Ty

Looks fun to play.

Great lesson. Thanks!
Very well done.

That’s Wendy Melvoin on the Sheryl Crow’s original recording.
Here's a recent video her explaining what rig she used to record the part: ua-cam.com/video/8F_IX4b85y8/v-deo.html

My pleasure!
Great work, thanks.

Agreed. I don’t know what to believe anymore. If he starts fingerpicking whilst thumbguying my head will explode
@@sammckelvey yes. Finger picking is the next logical progression. Brace yourself.
haha never gonna happen. Also, it's BEEEYOOM
It’s fucking crazy how you just read peoples minds. I’ve literally been thinking this.
;)
This is like the perfect pop guitar part.
yep
Nice work!!
Love Sheryl Crow :)
:)

:)
Boom, chock, boom, hammer, chock, ting. thats a legit language right there

you should definitely be attempting this sort of thing, just not to the point of complete frustration :)

What exactly is a “Real Man”?
two parts turnip one part kneecap of a shrew
I only have my classical guitar. And that f****** dumb trick is killing me
If it makes you happy...
if you're dressing snappy it might be a fad
Ah ah. Prouttt Finder !!!! Was Ist das ?!!
Sheryl’s favourite mistake was probably Lance.. Or, biggest anyway..
Ive got blisters on me fingers!! good stuff sir. thank you👊
that's a good sign!
I'm not a real man but have a mans courage
no no that's just the spaghetti you ate last night
Bring my axe to a first date dinner and in between dinner and dessert start playing
I can just hear it now….i am a mistake! Well you’re definitely not my favorite!
And she walks out
And one Kelly Clarkson song
here's the thing. we started out friends.
@@RyanLendt It was cool it was all pretend
Nothing girly about this song, the lyrics could easily apply to a man. Cough 1975 cough
Say more about this.
