Iron Giant was one of my all-time favorite films as a kid.

I made my kids watch it. They groaned at first but afterwards they loved it.

Robby is really well-designed. To think he's over 60 years old and the original prop costume still exists!
He still works. Wish they'd used him more often. I think the suit appeared in three productions besides numerous cameos -- Forbidden Planet (1st appearance), The Invisible Boy, and an episode of the original Lost in Space TV series.

More than one episode of Lost in Space, an episode of The Thin Man, and (I think) an episode of Columbo.

Iron Giant is one of those movies that still manages to bring me to tears. Spider-Man 2 and the first Land Before Time do the same.

Iron Giant was one of my all-time favorite movies as, and when I saw Ready Player One I lost my shit when I heard "Activate Iron Giant".
All I know is I've been loving my toy lately, especially during the lockdown.

Back in the 2000s where were little to no merch of Iron Giant, but now you can find tons of Iron Giant action figures on BBTS, going from $27 Diamond Select to $199 for the Mondo Iron Giant.
The PX and K.B. Toys always had the Toys. I will always love those toys but the new stuff is better quality.
Okay the Robby is actually kinda cool. Especially as the movement is probably MORE articulate than what the original costume had. XD
Only issue is the lack of spinning doohickeys on his head.
Never forget the time Robby the Robot gave a total stranger 60 gallons of Bourbon.

If I had the Iron Giant one, I would take a brush and some black or grey paint wash and add a panel wash all over the panel lines and possibly some of the parts to add some age or grit. Maybe get a piece of sponge and some silver paint and add some weathering. I could watch the movie again and add weathering marks based on the movie. I would even add some detail paint on all the "bolts" areas. After that spray coat of a flat finisher to seal the deal. Well even if I don't do any of this, I hope I can inspire those who could.

It’s pretty cool that they are bringing these toys out into the market again but to be honest with you the iron giant figure looks very cheesy and very cheap looking because I remember when the movie came out 99 and the toys looked a lot more detail and look a hell of a lot better
Iron Giant is cool but Robby is awesome for me. Loved watching Forbidden Planet for the first time when I was a kid.
When I saw Robbie the robot, I realised what to get my dad. Remember watching that with him. It was pretty awesome experience
Solid products for sure. Still got more love for Rob over Iron. Both are considered classics I guess but the strides they made when they created ole clear dome was what inspired many to fall in love with TV/movie sci fi.
I respect Iron Giant. BUT, I love Robby! :-D
I think The Iron Giant could be more gray over white but I guess you can do a custom paint job. And or $20, it's a fairly nice product.

Finally, some good news!
Just got mine today from a purchase on eBay since my local Wally World didn't have any and I'm highly pleased with the design and packaging. Being a big fan of the classic "Forbidden Planet" sci-fi film, I love Robby. Way bigger than expected though, but that is excellent since it gives a better feel and detailing (for what there is with Robby, which wasn't much). The plastic is a fragile thing, so dropping it would be a bad. This is not unexpected though. I used to have the older, and now quite expensive, Trendmasters edition that is half the size and had a round remote control hard wired to it. It also had the same kind of plastic modeling and used identical audio clips directly from the film, though it didn't have the music snippet or sparking sound. I still have mine somewhere (trying to find it). Unfortunately, it stopped functioning years ago. Not sure why since I had the batteries out it. Would love to replace it, but I'm not paying over a $150 for one. It's a bit odd that the packaging for this new larger edition has the message on front about batteries for the "Iron Giant" robot when it should be about Robby and the back mentions the disintegrator pistol is supposed to be included, but the hands are clearly not built to hold one. The Trendmasters version did have it though. I'm very happy with the robot and totally surprised to see that Walmart was selling it.
I like the design of "The Iron Giant" one, but not the movement or sound effects used. Could have been done better IMO.

The packaging for Robby looks better but the Iron Giant looks like the more fun toy.

Eh -- frankly R2-D2's been my favorite robot design for as long as I can remember.
I like Vincent and Old Bob from The Black Hole (1979) as well. Beyond that, probably Optimus Prime and Robby the Robot.

I'm surprised anybody even remembers The Black Hole, let alone licenses it to produce any merchandise now.
They haven't even done a Blu ray or decent restoration of the movie. The current DVD release of The Black Hole is just atrocious.

I love these! My only thing is with the Iron Giant, he seems to be too light in terms of color, they should make his plastic look darker like in the movie.
The Iron Giant is great! I got him the first time I saw him. Still haven't picked up the Robby yet, trying to decide if I really want him.

The only problem is Robby doesn’t come with the disintegratior pistol that is bullet pointed on the box. This was produced by “GOLDLOK HOLDINGS” not “Trendmasters” by “Jakks Pacific” and there does not seem to be any connection between the two companies.

I'm most impressed with the quality and especially the price point (Onyl $20 each) So at least kids can have a fighting chance at getting one without paying collector's prices. Have you seen the ALIEN playsets? They are also set at a good price. You get a little more bang for your buck.
The Alien toys are from Lanard, probably the last "true" toy company.

Found these a while back, I thought they looked AWESOME. I would of bought Robby if he was 1:12 scale. Nothing stopping me from getting the Iron Giant (one of my favorite movies as a kid), except saving money & have no room for it XD.

Was there an Iron Giant toy that has the Battle mode? I never got to Toys-R-Us to see.
I think the closest you’re going to get is the Mondo Iron Giant or the 1000Toys IIron Giant at the moment. You can try and get a PlayMates one from the original toy line for Iron Giant but I don’t recommend that because unless you’re an in mint on card collector (Moc) because they are worth hundreds of dollars for what today’s toys would be considered basic.

When I have children, Lord willing, I will buy them mountains of toys before I let them just sit on the couch and play with a touchscreen all day long. There is a magic to children's toys that no futuristic technology can ever replace, let alone duplicate.
