just an information: the one you ate is not a Cannolo it’s a Cannoncino... Cannolo from sicily is made with ricotta cheese and a fried pastry... Cannoncino is made with puff pastry and patissiere creams... Ciao!
32:25 That tactical placement of the glass by Kyde to block the guys face that kept looking over
Hahaha, that wasn't intended, but it's funny. -E
My favorite part of this video was at 27:03. Such a sweet moment, eating a delicious sandwich in Venice for a great price and having the children chasing pigeons in the background. Love it.
Agreed! -E
I like that you guys explained how crazy the infrastructure is and what it takes to get stuff in and out of the city. Been to venice once and it was a fun experience
I love this channel. History, travel, food and entertainment. Perfect.
Thanks!
Hiya. "Who buys these masks???" So, you've never heard of the famous Venetian masked festivals and masked balls? Really? And you should see the costumes! Wow! You'll have to go back. Also, I thought Speck was more of a cured ham or bacon, rather than a sausage. Finally, still love the way you draw people into Venice without needing to show the touristy stuff. Marvellous. All the best to you.
Swingers buy these masks.
Every ghetto in the world was named after the original ghetto in Venice - the area was a metal working district and the word ghetto in italian means to work metal . Jewish people were invited in to help with finance and money lending but were confined to this poor industrial zone with night time curfews . So this name for a city area where Jewish people can live a restricted life has stuck for around 400 years.
Keep on making your videos good people they are eminently watchable .
Very interesting! Wikipedia didn't note that! -E
ghèto is the venetian world for foundry. Ghetto is the italianization of that world.Even before that, since the I B.C in Rome the jews lived separated from the rest of the people. Sorry for my bad English.
Very informative, thank you!
@Kyde and Eric: The word "ghetto" comes from the Jewish area of Venice, the Venetian Ghetto in Cannaregio, traced to a special use of Venetian getto, or "foundry" (there was one near the site of that city's ghetto in 1516) From Wikipedia...
Ohhhhh, how interesting! I never knew that
"Nothing here is making me think like, sausage, and spinach".. Just as a lump of seaweed drifts by in the canal. Classic :)
LOL. Amazing. I hadn't noticed either X'D
I really love the chemistry between you two. You're best friends and what you have seems to be extremely solid
We like to hang out!
I have been enjoying Eric's hitchhiking to Hokkaido series recently. It's nice to see you both back together again (from my point of view haha) - would love to see a joint hitchhiking trip and a Kyde solo one to compare at some point :) Great video also!
Sooooo lots of pizza and booze.... basically Venice was like collage all over again for you guys eh? LOL
Amazing tour of the city though guys thanks... you only normally see the tourist areas on videos of Venice... it’s nice to see another perspective...
"Speck" means bacon in German. Some parts of North-Eastern Italy, like Trieste, were part of Austria-Hungary way back, so they still have occasional German words in their local language, but I don't think Venice was. Still interesting, though.
Speck is also bacon in Dutch, but Italian Speck is a type of cured ham.
The speck you can find in Italy is a typical smoked ham from the region of Südtirol-Alto Adige that borders with Austria. I would say Trieste is more into slovenian culture that german.
Well Spek in Dutch
...with the S pronounced SH. Shpek, at least in my family.
...beg to differ. Here in the west of Canada its usually mostly fat
I have been on my maternity leave for about two years and I find your videos great for relaxing after a long day of babysitting! :)
Awesome! Glad you can relax with us! -E

Oh man, Aperoll spritz gives me a headache instandly. So yeah I am a winegirl. If you didn't read it allready, I recommend to read Inferno from Dan Brown. The story involves Venice and I liked seeing pieces of the book in picture 😊
I really love these videos!! I never get bored, it's so interesting and funny. First I thought I'm totally in love with Kyde, but soon I realized: You both are a perfect match...
Greetings from Germany
Oh, I loved the bookstore! And the ending, with the music. Glad you guys seemed to have had a chance to relax.
Amazing video! I am so glad i sat down to watch it with my dinner though, its making me hungry just thinking about it... :D
I just love your channel guys. Over the last few months I’ve become a HUGE fan. You always seem to find the coolest stuff and you present your videos with humour and genuine warmth. I for one look forward to each new adventure. Namaste 🙏🏻
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you found us and are enjoying! -E
Find funny the difference in the size of an Eric bite and a Kyde bite!!! Love the way you travel, so down to earth, nothin' fancy and not missing a thing.... love it! Someday I will go to Venice. someday....Thanks for sharing!!!!
Street cannolis and alcohol...what a magical place. We are finally going to Venice in a few months, cannot wait to find it.
Awesome, enjoy it! Venice is stunning. -E
Sometime ago, I had visited Venice when I was only 9 years old (my Dad worked in the embassy)...Venice is one 'beautiful' city to visit.... it's nice to see you guys had lots of fun during your stay there..... (like it at #447) Greetings from USA !
The dogs at the end of the video are the Italian version of my dogs! I have the same breeds, a Maltese (the white floof) and a silky terrier lol
Also in the getto by the residence doors you will see little plaques on the ground with the person who lived there and were taken away.
Ahaha glad you tried spritz! :D Spritz-time was part of my daily university routine in Venice. :D
Haha, that could be dangerous!
Watching you two eat all the foods is making me want pastries and pizza! Lol loving this series so far!
Salsa rosa (pink sauce) is simply mayo + ketchup. We just try to make it sound fancy lol
Hahaha, love it.
In England we call it Special sauce to make it sound....
A bit like tartare sauce in England
17:59
What an incredible place.
I could spend hours browsing.
was a long time since someone commented on this so here i comment, ur vids are unique and amazing!
Eric stole the whole mountain... the whole mountain. lol
I've noticed a bit of a theme when Kyde is ordering--asking the server "What is your favorite?" and it always seems to be a winner.
Yea, she does that all the time! -E
amazing ending
Thanks! I liked how that came together too! -E
4:07 Indiana Jones, Last Crusade ... ;)
Love the idea of Pizza Everyday...
20:26 Speck (at least in German) is Bacon...
As in käse und speck (cheese & bacon)... Mmmm
Though in Italia, I imagine it's used more for Prosciutto...
4:15 Rockin' the Shel Silverstein look!
This one had me thinking of pizza all day! haha. I'm loving your adventures in my wife's motherland.
I believe the technical term is _Squishermen_
Thank You, Kyde and Eric!
Boy in the mask at 7:53 -- Sooo Funny after seeing the mask shop.
Hahahaha, good catch. I missed that. -E
Funny thing about that HUGE toilet flusher(funny to me lol) I went to provincetown MA USA for the first time last week(tip of Cape cod )I have lived in southeast MA my whole life, but that was my first time. We stopped at a whole in the wall bar, behind a building, outdoor, informal place. I used the bathroom and it had one of those huge toilet flusher. First one I ever saw lol
I like it! -E
Oh my gosh, that book store- that book store!! It was so gorgeous in a messy, crusty, chaotic way. And it's on the water- How it doesn't get wiped out with mold, I have no idea.
Haha, my bet is the books deeper down aren't in the best condition. -E
I really enjoyed this. I thought it would be too long for me but I found myself getting more and more into it. Venice has been on my Bucket List for 30+ years and I am finally going in late June/early July. Your video was super helpful and I can't wait to add your hints to my Venice "don't miss" sheet! Is there a way to find out where you had the Spritz at the end?
Ohh...the spritz place....I can't find it with my foggy memory on google maps. But it wasn't hard to find somewhere serving them, haha. Enjoy your trip! -E
Oh! I found it! Osteria Al Squero
I could almost taste everything and it looked so good; views down the canals with pizza , what more could you ask for, fantastic little bookshop, I could spend hours in there also. so enjoying your videos, look forward to the next one !
Glad our video conveyed a bit of what it was like for us! -E
Hi! I discovered your channel last week and I must say I thoroughly enjoy this format.
You seem to try to get the real feel of the places you visit, and this to me is the absolute core of traveling and experiencing new places. What I enjoy most is that you take time to explore and explain things you find interesting/funny/peculiar about the place you are visiting.
I was wondering if you plan to visit other cities in Italy aside from Venice, I would love to see you explore and discover Rome, my city!
Anyway, thanks for the content! It's great!
Edit: Well, it seems Venice is your only stop in Italy, too bad!
Thanks so much! Yea, we actually had not even planned on hitting Italy on this trip so Venice was a bit of a bonus for us. The result however was that we loved it so much we are super eager to return to Italy for a proper trip around the country. We will be back, I promise. -E
Haha, it'd make things easier for sure if we had some financial backing from a large corporation, but I don't think they would be super interested in our format and we aren't likely to be comfortable with concessions. We did consider selling DVD sets years ago, but honestly not many people anymore are interested in owning physical media, and it would have to be bluray to support the quality of the videos, and at that point even less people have bluray players. -E
Ok 1) All those sweets sounds Yummy.
2) HOLY COW THAT BOOKSTORE LOOKED AMAZING
Just revisiting here to see if I could find which episode you showed where you bought the wine from the big containers in a small shop. I did skip through a bit but didn't find it. Did stop at a section where you were talking about paying for a seat in a cafe. That may be due to VAT rather than an add on. In the UK you pay the VAT if you eat in but not if you eat out, a takeaway, like your pizzas.
It's not a VAT in Venice, it's a "seat fee" they charge because of there is so much tourism they can get away with it. Italian friends told us it's a specifically Venice thing. Here's the wine place, by the way ua-cam.com/video/bebvzUa4pAs/v-deo.html
When I visited Venice I laughed in front of that same window when I saw what they call cannolis. You referred probably to sicilian cannolis, they do not have the bottom are open on both sides and are filled with ricotta cheese chocolate chips and/or pistachio, wrapped in a fried shell. In Venice try local pastries they are delicious, when I was there I've bought galani , zaleti, baicoli, and pinza. On spumone your pronunciation was native level girl,no kidding. Just ask the seller for local sweets.Sorry for any mistake I did in English .Happy travels guys! Kisses from Sicily, If you ever make it this south you'll see what cannolis are:)
We will be back someday for sure! Can't wait to see the other food different parts of Italy have to offer! -E
If you ever get back to Venice then your new camera will make so much difference due to the contrast between the dark narrow lanes and bright Italian sky.
What a great excuse to go back to Venice! -E
Another fantastic Vid guys...
Thanks! -E
Thanks for the video. What month were you there. The weather looked cool.
Yea, it was perfect weather for sure!
A place i want to visit one day!!!
Hamantaschen is one of my favorite cookies! They're traditionally made for the holiday Purim.
If i eat pizza in pizzeria or at home i always eat with fork.
I found out that if you eat with utilities you eat slowly with less food at a time in your mouth so the end result is that stomach is not so full and pack when you finish.
Nothing to do with Venice exactly but a question about pronunciation. When Americans say Italy it’s pronounced Idaly, but Italian is pronounced Italian not Idalian. If it’s not a problem to say Italian why not say Italy? Hope this makes sense.
You'd hate to hear how I say it in Japanese. -E
8.30 for me they are not cannoli but cannoncini. were they sweet or savory? The cannoli aren't sweet. The canoncino is a typical dessert
That "Book Store?" made me think of that scene from Ghostbusters :-P
“It’s in your heart.” As usual, she’s absolutely right.
I feel like you are either going to spend 1 minute or 1 year in that bookstore! Once you start looking, how do you stop?
You get hungry and hunt down a pizza. Haha. -E
Where did you get the spritz and cichetti from?
Osteria Al Squero
I really appreciate the way you see and show us more than just a facade of a place. I think the masks are for the Venice festival and are a traditional symbol of Venice.
Glad you enjoy our take on video production! I think you are right about the masks, haha. -E
gheto means foundry
With all the wine and Spritz in Venice It's no wonder there are no cars or the canals would be full of them.
I betting some drunken boating happens. Good things boats float. -E
@kydeanderic how much did you guys pay for that pizza? thanks
I don't recall, but if we were buying it it was probably affordable. I want to say it was like 8euro or so, but that's just a guess. -E
👍 and 🤘 for the nirvana shirt (22:23)
Oh my piadinaaaaa, i'm from Rimini, Romagna the patria of piadina. Any more the traditional piadina is with pork fat 12% instead of olive oil, so it can't be from southeastern mediterranean sea, even if i'm vegetarian and prefer the modern veg version with olive oil. Spritz is really venetian! Cicchetti are the venetian spanish tapas or greek mezedes, we are all mediterranean! You made an "apericena" as we say in italy now, aperitif +dinner, something like a brunch
You might have missed it in Glasgow but there's a carpet factory on Glasgow green, near the People's Palace which was modelled on the Doge's palace in Venice. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Templeton_On_The_Green
Hah! Wow! -E
27:00 I like how the girl in pink keeps chasing birds in the background.
Speck is a type of bacon
Fired up my pizza stone just in time to find this video!
Perfect!
Hey would you happen to know the name of the song or artist played by the two guitarists at the end of the vid?
No idea, but it's lovely.
Every day is pizza day, just like our son when he stopped off there on his travels from France to Croatia.
Wise son!
spinach pizza looks so nice!! oh i use chopsticks to eat pizza actually lol
That's talent! -E
when are you going back to italy?
I wish I could say tomorrow, but I can't. Haha. -E
@@kydeanderic Soon!
Campari is an acquired taste. I love it now but it took a while to get into! Never tried a cannoli but they remind me of The Godfather.
This time is the sandwich the best!
you should have drank the spritz to the man who told you about the flat bread,,best wishes
I told my boyfriend i would like to go to Venice for my next special birthday :-)
Good idea! -E
are you guys coming to Greece? Loved the video btw
We spent a week in Athens, but didn't get a chance to explore outside of the city unfortunately. Will certainly be back some day. Athens videos will be coming! -E
Cool! Can't wait to watch them. Keep up the good work guys!
Oh, also, regarding the masks, I believe most people (tourists) that buy them, use them for decoration. Wall art. They're so pretty. I am for Sure planning on buying at least one if I ever get to go to Venice :))
I'm not sure I'd hang *all* of those masks on my wall, hahaha. -E
Lol, no, probably not some of them xD
When I go back to Italy I'm bringing my pizza cutter
Hahaha
Great video!!!
Thanks!
Do you Guys gain weight on your travels?
Not really, we end up burning a lot of calories as we walk a lot. We also don't eat as much as it appears in the videos. -E
Pizza Skeletor, FTW!
" pink sauce " is Cocktail sauce
Do you really not know about the masks and Carnival in Venice? It's like a weeks long party and ends around Mardi Gras. It's been a thing since the 1100s.
Her point stands, how does a week long festival support 30 mask shops selling masks with giant dildos on the face? Hahahahahaha. -E
the giant dildos never seen that way XDD, that s a typical mask ...you stuffed the nose with herbs to protect you from contagion during epidemic.
Carry on. Lovely couple
Will be in Croatia again in three weeks. Big lesson I learned from this video,......get your food 'to go', and find a scenic view to enjoy it. Graci.
Enjoy your visit!
Do you think you'll ever get sick of Pizza? Is that even possible, for any humans?
Not possible!
The Squidderman family. Must be some relatives of mine.
Great break down of Venice's interesting trash situation; it has given me a greater insight on how to better play SimCity: pay another city to be my dump. I suspect that at least in 2010 Venice was paying Naples to take their junk and store it on the streets.
I hope you are still playing the original Simcity. -E
Playing SC 4 Deluxe and the newest SC. I prefer SC4, in which you can build something large enough to be called a city, whereas with the newest SC, you don't seem to have the land area for building much more than a large town. I prefer having characters to follow through their lives and careers, as with SC 4. SC4 has UFOs and monster robots and other natural and supernatural disasters to order up, and a pretty damned decent soundtrack, which, sad as this may be, I listen to while at work writing code. I'll have to check out the original SC--which one is that? SC 2000, or is it called something else?
Oh, you probably mean the 1989 original? I'll check it out. Never played that one.
Great video
Those types of pizza I do just eat with my hands and tear chunks off
Just jam your face down in it, haha. -E
Carnival Masks= Assasins Creed= Ezio Auditore.
244 are the Jews deported to the district of Venice. Then there were about 1,700 Jews. Now the Jewish community is about 500 - 600 people
I went to Italy specifically for a pizza one night. Crossed from Monaco, stopped at the first place that served it. Worst pizza I've ever had in my life ironically. I had to pretty much hang it out to dry due to the excess olive oil. I don't regret it though.
We hear that constantly, people upset with Italian food in Italy. I'm not sure the perspective people are coming from, but we quite enjoyed almost everything we ate, and Venice isn't known for it's pizza. -E
jools2323 hi were you in Genova ? Italy is a big country and to eat pizza in the north-west is not like eating in the area where pizza is from aka napoli.
You should have eaten typical local food from where you were.
Kyde the drunk well what do you expect after visiting Scotland
packs of cigarettes, rolling papers and, SIM cards. The future is Venice.
Open container will get you 3 months and $500 fine in the States.
Yea, add that to the list of reasons we don't live in The States, hahaha. -E
They dont live in japan anymore?.... (I know im misinformed i havent watched anything from these 2 in a while)
We spent 6 months in Europe, but we still live in Japan. In fact we are in Japan right now! -E
@@kydeanderic oh ok amazimg i didnt know becouse i know you both love to travel and all and mightve decided to live in another country i wasnt to sure though
Kyde and Eric Aaaaeww, no visit to Holland??? Maybe in the future.
I love Italy even more now that it has digital cigarette vending machines. Very civilised. "Speck" is a type of proscuitto.
It's the future! -E
The library from Indiana Jones and the last crusade.
Scaletèr.."ladder maker".
Wine and canals are not a good combination ! Venice and its food look great though . Nice to see away from the usual tourist traps .
Wine in moderation is OK with the canals! Haha. -E
