Superstitions growing up in Trinidad

- Everyone has different beliefs, I believe that when different cultures settled in Trinidad many years ago, they brought their superstitious beliefs with them.
I am sure alot of Trinidadian households held some of these beliefs as well. Mine certainly did!
Are you familiar with any?
These were some of the superstitions i grew up with.
The spirit one after 12am is true they will follow to your bedhead and cause mental confusion and frustration/angry

Neet!!! Back at home my parents and older brothers never allowed us to comb our hair, clip our nails or look at our face in a mirror at night it was considered inauspicious. Also, if your left eye jumping something bad will happen and if your right eye jumping something good will happen.....also if you eat in a pot rain will fall on your wedding day...wear a piece of your clothes wrong side especially if you going in the forest so you wouldn't get lost and also no negativity will not come your way , they usually say by doing so you tie yourself meaning like a protective. Another one Is don't let anyone tap you on your back they will pass out their ill luck on you. ..one should not jump a window or a gate you will end up a thief....it's not good to mash pepper and salt if it falls on the floor or ground it causes confusion in your home....

If a screech owl screeches close by someone will die...place a scissor under your pillow if you're having bad dreams....we were told don't shake your feet when you sitting it brings misfortunes kn the home....girls should not climb fruit trees the fruits will be sour...
I have seen scissors under my grandma pillow long ago never knew the reason. I shake my foot all the time but yes i heard that one. The last one explains alot!

Eat the wax from your ears so no obeah or witchcraft can't harm you......don't pick flowers, fruits...cut tress or dig the earth after 6pm, we were told everything gone to rest...if you have to you must ask permission from the tree or the earth...I remember very clearly my Maa telling us don't look at the mirage on the road during the hot and dry season it was considered to be a female energy which you were not supposed to speak of..
I dont know if i could est wax from my ears nah lol 🤣. Yes my mom told me to ask permission if its after six.
