The South Ward isn't just the center but everything for some of us who grew up there. And the upside down traffic sign at the bottom of a signpost with ropes on it was hilarious and on point. Plus the Pastrami sandwich looked yummy; pastrami sandwiches, pizza, food from a Chinese restaurant, and hot dogs were the 4 major food groups when I was little

Just your opening (Halsey & Cedar) brings back SO many memories. Halsey was the place for boots & sneaks, the 🌭 spot down on the corner (Raymond). Best Blimpie’s back in the day. Then head towards Broad to snag hats/gloves from the street vendors. Thx for the memory jog of home Matt. #201Life!
And if your really from newark your mom or your pops took you to stride rite to get your first pair of shoes when you first started walking 😂 them high top round toe hard bottems! Everybody had a pair! I took all my kids there to get thier first pair
@ IDK - I got PRE-Stride-Rite memories when it comes to kiddie shoes aka BRODY’s on Lyons & Bergen followed by Kay’s Drugstore for some candy & script pick-ups afterwards!!! THAT’S OG Newark! 💪🏾
When you grow up around good pizza you can tell if its good just by looking at it. That pizza is good.

I grew up in the Oranges, so definitely my neck of the woods. I've never been to Queen Pizza, will definitely give it a try; Star Tavern has been around forever. ✌️
Pro Tip: reheat pizza in a skillet add a pinch of water for steam and cover with a lid! You’ll thank me later
Sprinkle a slight bit of water into the pan too. It'll create steam to help the pizza retain the right amount of moisture.
That looks really good. That style of pizza used to be all around NJ but I feel a lot of places don't make this style as good anymore. I'm definitely going to try it. Hopefully I can door dash it to Kearny its not far.

The Queen Pizza off of Broad Street was my go to spot for 15 years. It was always solid.

Queen‘s Pizza was one of the first spots that my mom used to take me to back in the early 90s when it used to be down the street from where it is at now. Pizza is good but only when you eat it there once you get home and the best way to eat, it is at home is in the toaster oven or in the oven no microwave cause it’s worse
Queen Pizza is a legendary pizza spot in the Downtown section of Newark. It's been at that same spot on Halsey since I was a little child. Everything on Halsey changed, but I'm glad to see this food review and see the good old fashioned Queen Pizza still up and running in 2025🍕

There are two other Queen pizza, one on Broad near City Hall and the one on Commerce Street, which is the one I prefer.

When I was in Maple Gardens that was the spot. Closest thing to New York pizza in NJ. They got a spot on Stuyvesant in Union and that pizza fell off from what I remember Irvington had. Is Irvington pizza still that same since 10 years ago? I might slide by when leave the spots in Newark and pick up a pie before I head home. #openSunshineSocialclub lol

Pizza in the microwave? I think the best way to reheat pizza 🍕 is the conventional oven 350° for about 9-10min. You want it to taste just like it came straight out the oven from the pizzeria crispy crust peace ✌🏽 Matt

There is no absolutely no good, and I mean NO good pizza in Newark. The closest spot near our area that has spectacular pizza would be Amore in Nutley. Two brothers in Belleville has surprisingly good pizza and Ralph’s in Nutley has good pizza and you should ask for them well done. I’m a pizza snob and even thought about doing a pizza channel but still debating it.

Hey Matt. Yeah It looks good. But I just be so skeptical. Cause Whenever someone says they have good pizza… cause I’m old-school and I know what good pizza taste like. I haven’t found none in a while… mainly when I go to the Italian spots, it’s much better when you see all Italians in the kitchen.. but nowadays, you got a lot of Latinos making pizza and to me it’s not the same.. It’s like the Italian have a special touch to how they make their pizza with love and culture… that’s just my opinion..💯🤷🏽♂️💪🏽

None nutley has the best pizza.. you need to go to Italians to get a good pizza. For example why would I go to a Chinese restaurant for oxtails. When you know for a better oxtails you would go to a soul food restaurant. Plus it's just a plain pizza. I don't know if you can judge from just a plain pizza.
